The fabric used for an item shouldn't have an age limit. The construction is another issue. The words jean shorts conjures up a certain image (short-shorts) that some find best avoided by seniors. Like my favorites, when I was 16, LOL. Darn, I loved those shorts.
Some jean shorts are clearly for younger folk and can be revealing. While they can rock the look, older ladies can also have some fun with longer length jean shorts.
There are some nice jean shorts that can even be dressed up a bit for casual occasions. Perfect for all ages, who enjoy wearing shorts.

People of all ages, physiques, body types, sexes and so on would do well to take an honest look in a mirror before leaving the house. Everyone is free to wear exactly what they want, but dressing to flatter what you look like while accenting the positives and minimizing the negatives serves us well. Whether anyone likes it or not, everyone doesn't look good in everything and it's a bit unrealistic to think otherwise or to think that others aren't going to see what's right in front of them.

I don't think jean shorts have an age limit, I'm in my early 60s and have a couple pairs mid thigh length. I have a couple pairs of tailored shorts too that are above my knees.
I wear shorts around the house in the summer. I wear them outside to talk a walk on a hot day, or to an amusement park, or other outdoor activity in the summer heat. As long as I'm comfortable showing my legs I will keep wearing them. I don't care if others think I'm too old to wear them.

Sounds logical, but the problem is sometimes people honestly DON'T KNOW what looks good on them.
Too often people like "the idea" of the look, but don't really consider their own body type or what it looks like from the back.
Full length mirrors are our friends.

I think we're past the era of the fashion police.
No we aren't We will never be.
Then let me rephrase it: I've never listened to the fashion police - or as another poster has mentioned, the age police.
They can critique others all they want. It has no effect on me. And they should probably find a better use of their time. JMHO.

Still in my 40's but I still wear short shorts. And dresses above the knee. Don't understand the big deal. Got good legs? Well show them! Is there an age rquirement to dress?

I would not wear the short shorts. Less than 7". But I wear the 7" length shorts. they look good on me. I have denim shorts. Wear them with a white t-shirt or tank. Looks very nice. I live in shorts and skorts in the Summer. Do not care for the long length of bermuda shorts, Capri's or crops so I don't wear them.
ETA- I forgot to say I am 68 years old. and will continue to wear shorts. Am wearing them now. haha

I wouldn't wear them because I no longer have the legs for any length short. In my opinion, shorts can be too short just like skirts can be too short.

I'm 80 with really good legs for my age. My "go to" shorts are made by 32 degrees and I believe the inseam is 5" ( they are not tight). I frequently go to Phoenix or Vegas for a couple of days and they work well.

There should be an age limit for the length of said shorts being worn. Daisy dukes should not be worn by any senior citizens. If you're wearing a Bermuda length or longer go for it.
