Shopaholics One Day at a Time - Tuesday, Feb 23rd

Hello all,  the sun is shining brightly outside my window today.  I'm back at work and am still trying to enjoy the light.  I  hear a winter storm is headed for Michigan tomorrow evening into Thursday with expected snow totals of 4 to 8 inches.  I have to give it to the newsradio station that I listen to each morning - the meteorologist admitted he'd have a better idea tomorrow morning, lol.

So, what's up in your neck of the woods?

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - Tuesday, Feb 23rd

Good morning all, thanks @Bird mama, for starting.
Sorry you had to go back to work today, lol. It's cloudy and chilly here today, with the possibility of snow tomorrow also, but not nearly that much.
Busy day yesterday, not so much today. I checked via phone with the local cleaners yesterday about getting alterations done, the person who does them was not there, but asked about prices and was told that all they knew was $12 to hem pants. That seems high to me, just to hem pants. Wondering how dang much to take in a lined jacket, or to alter sleeve length on a dress. Can only imagine, especially on the jacket. Oh, also found out the recall on my car, that I received a card about, was sent to me in error, lol. I need to start my dusting. Waves to all......

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - Tuesday, Feb 23rd

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

Bernie -  Thank you for starting us today, hope you don't get much from that storm.  We are having a fairly nice day here today, the sun tried to peak out a few times, but did not last long.

Snicks -   It is about $10 - $12.00 for hemming of pants around here.   I think it is ridiculous price, but I have never put a straight hem in a pair of pants so it is worth it to me to pay someone.  This is why I like to buy men's jeans, they may not look the best on me, but , I can buy the length I want.

Had to take the dog on to get a wart removed from the side of one of her legs, so we pick her up after one o'clock today.  I have a feeling it will be guilt city the rest of the day.  Well need to think about some lunch.  Hope everyone has a great day.

BIRD MAMA, It sounds like you are in for some snow fun.  I hope we get some more. I bet you will be busy getting caught up at work.

SNICKS, How nice to get a false car recall.  That does seem high to get pants altered.  I do mine as I have sewn for almost all of our married lives.  Sometimes petites are OK but that isn't always true.

Susan, too bad about your dog needing to get a wart removed.

Mom had a rough day yesterday as she had severe foot pain. I called the Hospice nurse & one did finally get to come see her. Then the Dr. sent a RX to our local Shopko for ocycodone (sp)?  By the time I got the RX, it was 5:30.

I called mom's place this morning to see how she is doing.  I left a message & am still waiting for them to call me back.

DG & I are planning to go to a town 22 miles away for lunch & a little get away time.

Hugs to all of you.

@PAlady, so sorry about the dog's wart, hope he does ok once he is home again. Our fur babies are so important to us, aren't they.

@twinny70, sorry your mom was not doing as well. Hope the meds help her. I hold a special place in my heart for our elders. After living a long life and going thru much (more than we even realize, I'm sure), they deserve to be well cared for in their declining years. Hope you enjoy your outing today. As to the alterations, as I said I only heard what the rate for hemming pants is, don't know what it will be for what I need done which is taking a pair of pants in (all the way around), taking in a lined suit jacket which is too big on me now, and shortening a long sleeved dress to elbow length. I can hem pants, just not accomplished enough to do the rest and have it look professional. Haven't done much sewing the last 20-30 years or so. lol.

Back to my dusting, how much fun can a person have I'll bet you all are thinking...not, rofl.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - Tuesday, Feb 23rd

Hi girls!  It's an icky, rainy day, but neither the dogs nor I have been out of the house since Friday, so I guess I'll take a ride to Publix for the cat treats; I also need to check the PO to see if I got my earnings statement from Social Security.  They're sure taking their time!

Bird, my cousin in Michigan (works in Detroit, lives in Imlay City) just posted that your forecast is 8-10" of snow.  I'm glad we just have rain here...and it's relatively warm.

Sorry to hear the problems with your mom continue, twinny; I know it's stressful, and it's terrible that your sister doesn't give you any help.  Cat Mad

When I lived in Hawaii I worked PT at a friend's sewing & alterations shop.  I don't recall what we charged for hemming pants, but it was somewhere around $10...but that was Hawaii and that was years ago.  There was a tailor who had a shop across the street from her's, and he had a big sign outside that said, "Hemming blue jeans - $6."  Well, for one thing, he did poor work - he'd turn up the bottom and machine sew the hem into place; for another, if someone brought in jeans that were any color but blue, he'd charge the regular price for hemming pants!

Susan, I know about the guilt!  When I bring an animal home from the vet they get an entire can of food all to themselves.

Well, I guess I should get up and get moving, but Whisper is lying on my shoulder and I hate to disturb him; he's the kitty who turned up not long after I bought this house, emaciated, covered in poop, and with his tail badly matted because apparently some scum had put duct tape or something around it.  He's the sweetest, most loving cat imaginable, and I spoil him rotten...I may just have to play at the computer for a little bit longer.  Cat Happy  Either that or give him some kitty treats...he'd go through an entire bag if I let him.

Hi to everyone - have a blessed day!

@Genny1

If you are talking about the St. John's Bay brand of tops, I have been shopping at JCP for over 30 years.  St John's Bay has been my favorite brand for years.

FHG, In answer to your question, DH & I take one day a week to do something for ourselves.  We see mom the other 6 days.  It works out pretty good as she is living near where we eat out & shop.  She does get quite a bit of company, but I notice when we play cards & board games, she is much happier.

I talked to her caretaker & she said that the Hospice nurse was there.  DH & I did get away for lunch & a little shopping.  Nothing exciting as it was hearing aid batteries for my DH.  It was buy 1 pkg, & get 1pkg. free & 1\2 tank of gas for 1.65 a gallon.  It went up 15¢ in about a week.

We stopped to see mom when we got back home.  She was sleeping so I just talked to her caretaker.  They said she has slept most of the day & they are giving her another RX for gout starting tomorrow. I am just glad that she is resting comfortably.

Supper is the homemade pizza made yesterday, heated up in the oven.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - Tuesday, Feb 23rd

Good Evening!  Thanks for getting us started Bernie.  I'm happy we aren't having any snow.  It is cooler than last week, but still should reach the 70's with lows in the 40's.  I am loving our weather.

I think they charge quite a bit to do alterations, snicks.  DD said that having the sports coat tailored for DGS was at least $75 or $80 as was altering the dress for DGD.  Fortunately, the purchase price was reasonable, so the alterations were worth it.

She ended up buying a new washer and dryer last night.  Both the washer and dryer are much larger with stainless steel inside, etc.  The old dryer wasn't all that old, but it needed a new thermostat which combined with the service call would have been quite pricey. The washer wasn't in great shape either.  They put $400 down and need to pay it off in three months.  It is always something.

Our pets certainly know how to make us feel guilty, don't they Susan.  I no longer have dogs, but I clearly remember what happened if one of the dogs needed to have something done at the vets.  Even nail cutting was pretty traumatic for one of them.

Hi twinny.  Sorry your Mom wasn't doing well.  Glad you and your DH are having some good times.  Definitely a need for you.  I am sort of in the same boat with DH.  I really love having time for myself when he is at the "club".

I think Bernie asked if there are requirements to attend the club, and I don't think they are exactly clearcut.  Of course, you cannot go if you have TB (and must have a TB test), and I know sometimes they won't take/keep someone who is too difficult to handle -- very agitated, etc.  They do take DH to the bathroom, and help him there.  And, I knew they were helping him with eating.  But, I didn't realize that this was a service they don't offer or that he needed so much help.  Fortunately, the lunch I sent today worked out very well -- the lady who was sitting with him told me he ate the whole thing, and it was a good day.  Thank goodness for that.

Glad you were able to have your hair done before the bad weather, Marijane.  Enjoy your beef stew.  I hope the tops work well for you.

Hope you are able to go out today Arlene, despite your awful weather.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, spix, Charlene, LindaR, Rosa, Karen, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

No medicine for DH yet, but they pharmacy says they will deliver it tonight.  I took an hour walk after I dropped him off at the club, and I went to the gym after my work at the senior lunch program (it ran long, but was okay).  So, I'd like to just sit around an play on the computer, but DH wants to take a walk.   I can't pass up that opportunity.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda
