Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started Bernie.  I'm sure you will figure out and solve your basement problem.  Glad you were able to make it to the store when it wasn't too crowded and got things swept up.  I'm know these "anniversary days" can be tough.  Hugs.

Glad you had a good time in the city, Jean.  I didn't realize your car was 10 years old -- it has certainly served you well.  My guess is that there will be a good car when you are ready to buy.  Nothing wrong with seeing what is out there.

Sorry your holiday wasn't much fun, spix.  Best wishes for a much better year.

Hope your acceptable weather continues, Susan.  Good luck in getting the cleaning done.

Good for you with your casino visit, snicks.  Sorry about the mud.  Somehow I manage to find the muddy/dusty spot as well.

Waves to Kathleen, Arlene, Marijane, twinny, LindaR, Barbara, Karen, Rosa, Charlene, pinky ann, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

Not sure what happened, but I suspect DH forgot where the bathroom was while I was at church.  We don't have any animals, and I found the signs of an accident on the "office" carpet.  Also, the front of his sweatpants was wet.  He has no idea what happened, and I'm trying not to stress out.  It will really change things if he can't be on his own for an hour or two.  Like I said, I'm trying not to stress about it.

Nothing exciting planned for today -- we will leave for the gym soon, and I may take a walk later.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

We are back in az. Our holidays were lovely, but dh really does not like the cold.,it will be 70 today, but the rest of the week will be cold and rainy.

decided to do a week of crockpot meals. Split pea soup, chicken soup, and chil will be good when the weather is not.  I am back in the mood to cook, which is good, because I was not for a while.

My replaced knee is giving me fits. It is tied into the ra issues. I had to be wheelchairs through the airports. It is gradually getting better. This has happened before and both my rheumatologist and orthopedist checked it out.

Bernie..Special ((( hug ))) to you today.

i hope everyone has a great day.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

Linda, I can see how this might be a real game changer.  My Gram had an incident where Mom came home and she had burned something in the microwave so badly that the inside of the unit was black.  It never did come out.  The brothers and sisters were very offended that Mom was talking nursing home, but she couldn't be there all the time.

Sydsgma, glad you had a good time over the holidays and are back in your winter home.  I was glad to "get" to wear long sleeves today but by the time I got my shower I put on short sleeves, went for a walk and my back is still burning.  I think I may need to take long sleeves home.

Snicks how fun at the casino!  Sorry you didn't sleep much.  I am lacking sleep today as DH's snoring woke me and kept me awake several times.  I  guess his allergies or something, time for me to get ear plugs.

Spix I'm glad our holidays are behind us.  It was just too quiet for me, but I've enjoyed extra time with Beloved.  I'm ready to get back to healthier eating, that's for sure.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

Hi everyone!  Bernie - Hope that the basement noise isn't anything serious.  Finding the neatly packed boxes of camera supplies sounds a bit like my place.  That's how I came across the very neatly packed box of cassette tapes, lol.  Jean - I hate going to a car dealership, I don't know why.  Wait a minute, yes I do, it's the salespeople!!!  Hope you're enjoying your days off from work.  Snicks - glad you came out ahead at the casino.  Sydsgma - sorry that your knee is acting up and hope that it feels better soon.

It's a bit brisk and chilly here today.  Just wish that some of the excessive rain in our country would head out west where it's needed.  My DS left for college yesterday, and my DD left for college an hour ago.  Now the house is quiet and lonely.  I always feel a bit depressed when they first leave because I miss them.  My DD helped me get my Fitbit set up.  I'm still learning how to use it.  I thought that 10,000 steps might be too ambitious, so I programmed it for 5,000 steps, and at 2:00 in the afternoon, I'm almost there.  That's not bad, but it'll take a while to work up to 10,000 steps.

Oh, and we have a goat that's not doing well.  One of our sweet white goats named Rosie.  She has a couple of different health problems, mostly dealing with her reproductive health (cysts or tumors?), her hormones, and her udder.  My DD gave Rosie an injection yesterday in hopes of improvement, but I don't know how it'll all work out.  Some of you might remember back in June when our goat Daisy had a stillborn kid, and it took her a while to recover from the birth.  This goat Rosie is Daisy's mother.  They look exactly alike, and they both have sweet temperaments.

Hope you're all doing well, and thanks for listening.  ~  Charlene

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

Hi girls!

It's back up to the 50s; the nights are cold, but I'm doing OK - I don't even need the space heater when I sleep, thanks to Autumn and the kitties!

Bird, so sorry to hear it's a difficult day for you. ((( HUGS )))  WAIT!  Please think twice about tossing your late husband's camera equipment. After my husband died we had a basement full of "treasures."  (My advice from an old BF when I was getting married was "Never call your husband's stuff 'junk.'" Cat Wink)  There were odd electronics parts, all sorts of equipment of whose function I had I no idea...  Well, I was in dire need of money, and had recently heard of eBay. I didn't even have a computer with internet - just Web TV - and no way of putting up pictures, so I listed his stuff, describing it as best as I could - like, "Electronic equipment by (brand) measures 8 X 10 X 12 and has knobs that read...."   I put in the description that I had no idea of what it was, but it belonged to my husband who had recently died and had left me without any kind of support.  Every last item was bid on and sold for a good price; in fact, I had a HUGE box (about 3' X 3' X 4') that I advertised as "electronics grab bag."  It was all kinds of little circuits and "things" (no clue as to what they were).  I started the bidding at $10 and as I recall I got well over $100 for it from a sweet guy who called himself Pizza Bob, who send me a check for the stuff...as well as an extra $100 for me. My husband had old TV and radio tubes that fetched a lot of money from collectors as well. My point is, it might be worth listing it rather than throwing out what might be potentially a lot of money, especially since old style camera equipment is made anymore, and there are collectors out there who will pay a lot for it.  Who knows - you might make enough for an extra house payment or two. Cat Happy

Spix - sorry about the bad holiday memories; I can relate to that, which is why I hate Christmas.  I think the worst part is all the hype of "happy happy joy joy" that you're expected to participate in whether you feel it or not.  But...it's OVER!  Cat LOL

Jean, I really want a newer car - my old Sentra is 23 years old, but runs like a dream; even my mechanic is impressed, and it has only 175,000 miles on it. In my case I just want something that's "prettier" and has more  bells and whistles; if I were able to get one (after a new HVAC unit, of course) I'd like a Subaru Outback - I think it would work well for me, as I could get a pet barrier and keep the dogs in the back. I have no desire for a brand new car, both because of the heavy depreciation in the first year, and because I don't want one that tracks and records everything I do...  In fact, I'd probably keep my Sentra as well - I do love that car.

Charlene, sorry to hear about poor Rosie; I hate it when a furbaby is sick - they don't deserve that.

LindaL, have you considered meeting with a social worker or someone to discuss your options for DH's care?  I know it's a tough choice, but you have to think of your own health as well... I'm praying for you.

I posted a review of the poor Walmart on their FB page last night, and to my amazement got a reply asking me to contact the manager.  I didn't go into all the details - like spending almost a full hour at the checkout line because the cashier was totally incompetent, and the guy in the parking lot who was gathering carts. I was so annoyed that I forgot where I put the car and asked him if he had seen a car with three dogs in it.  His response: "Three dogs?  Maybe it got towed!"  Duh!  What on earth is wrong with people? Cat Mad  Anyway, I've tried to contact that manager in the past both by phone and by going to the store, and he's always "at a meeting," so I'm going to continue with my original plan to contact corporate tomorrow...there is NO excuse not only for what I went through, but there are all the other customers who were overcharged; the "customer service" at that store is the absolute worst...and the problem stems from a poor manager...

I got my bi-annual craving for a meatball sandwich from Subway so went to pick one up.  There were a bunch of police cars in front of another restaurant down the block; turned out there was a bomb scare at the restaurant. No bomb was found even after sniffer dogs were bought in, but they lost a busy day's business. Hard to believe something like that would happen in a sleepy little town; this sure isn't the world I grew up in...

My lazy day continues; I'm hoping the water in the basement is gone in a day or two - heating water on the stove to wash in is getting really old...

Have a peaceful evening, everyone!

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

@FunkyHulaGirl

I thought it was a box of odds and end camera stuff until I looked at the box again.  It's a 35mm camera and fancy looking lenses in their own cases.  I don't know enough about ebay right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if camera nuts wanted the lenses.

Suffice it to say, camera and lenses are not going anywhere at this time.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time- Sunday, January 3rd

Arlene, I have been worried about your lack of heat and hot water. Can your church help???!! Ours here is very big I. Assisting members with things like that. At home, the gas company takes care of unlit pilot lights...I worry that you are living in a potentially dangerous situation. There are also agencies that assist with heating bills etc. I know you live in the South but you still have the potential for cold weather.

you seem to be such a dear person...((((hugs))))
