Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Sunday, Jan. 9th)

Hello and Happy Sunday to all.  I received my new handbag and wallet today.  I was so excited as I unwrapped the bag and got ready to load it up when I saw that the underside of one of the straps had a piece of the strap gouged out.  That kinda killed the overall joy for me.

The bag was cheap so I decided to take a dark brown marker, color in the gouge (only I would see it anyway) and load the bag up.  I've bought BOC Born bags before and never had an issue.  Maybe I should look elsewhere (than 6 pm).  Sometimes I think 6pm sells the 'irregulars'.  Lesson learned.  It's still better than the aggravating bag that I've been carrying, lol.

How are you today?

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Sunday, Jan. 9th)

Good Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Bernie.  That is disappointing about the handbag.  I am sure you helped make the small gouge less noticeable, but it does reduce the joy.  Hope it is less aggravating than the one you had been carrying.

Unfortunately, $50 will probably not go too far at that restaurant, Glenda.  Their prices are pretty high, and drinks (non-alcoholic) make them even higher.  I am hoping that it can pay for four lunches plus a tip, but that may not be the case.   Still, it was certainly nice to win the gift certificate.  I am usually not lucky.

Bev is still in the hospital having blood tests.  She hopes to come home today, but I guess it depends on the results.

Barbara's DH came home yesterday, and is weak and on oxygen.  She said he has already fallen twice, and she doesn't think that she will be able to help him up when her daughter leaves on Tuesday.  The doctor told her to call 911 if that happens.  He has been diagnosed with internal bleeding in his stomach (plus ulcers) and in the liver.  He will be seeing a GI doctor to find out what can be done to help.  In the meantime, Barbara is feeling overwhelmed.   I'm sure she will appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

The Bible study group this morning was good -- a couple  participated for the first time.  Both were 90 years old and had been missionaries at one time.  I would have never guessed their ages. Fortunately, it wasn't too cold since the services are still outdoors on the patio.

I plan to go to the gym soon.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice evening and sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Bird Mama, we are doing well and it's a beautiful sunny day.  I think it was a good idea to keep the bag and use a magic marker to touch it up.

We went to Culver's at 1:00 for an eat in lunch.  Very few people & it was so nice to eat in a restaurant.  Something that we very rarely do.

No big plans for this afternoon as we hot tubbed before lunch & I steam mopped the floors this morning.  Then I spilled a cup of coffee on the carpet.  I rarely drink more than a cup for breakfast in the kitchen, but it slipped out of my fingers.  Easy cleanup as it's a carpet that doesn't show stains.

No Covid news is good news I hope.

Hugs to all of you.

Linda L, prayers are going out to Bev.  Hopefully the Dr. can find out what the problems are.  Prayers also for Sydsgma and V.  It's not an easy thing to have to deal with.  I have to remind my dh from time to time that he needs to take it easy as I could never get him up by myself.  He was so used to being on the run.  Now  I tell him that we are both in the same boat.  Life takes unexpected twists and turns.

Linda hopefully the $50 will cover most if not all for lunch.  It's generous of you to share your winnings.

You've been down that road of having a husband who lost his balance and fell so you really know what Barbara is feeling.  With the virus going crazy everywhere and the low percentages of vaccinated caregivers in skilled nursing facilities, I can appreciate why V wanted to come home.  He's been through enough illness the past couple of months to want to avoid medical facilities at all costs.

That said, I appreciate the stress Barbara is under.  V is already bleeding in his stomach and liver and the last thing he needs is to fall against something on the way down, should he lose his balance again.  Her daughter is probably stressed out about having to return home with the situation still up in the air more or less.

Barbara and her family remain in my prayers.

BirdMama---That was a clever idea to use the marker on the bag handle. It's a good solution to fix the new bag until you find one that you like better but still fits the budget.

LindaLatte--

Thanks for the updates on Bev and Barbara's husband. I will continue to keep them all in my prayers. It's so difficult being the spouse and the 24 hour caregiver. We had a similar situation with my mother when we moved her in with us due to her failing health. Those are difficult roads to navigate.

Twinny70-

Of course you only spill coffee after you either stem mop floors or scrub carpets. I think it must be some "hidden" tradition. LOL  I washed all the stair treds. ( I think there's almost 39 of them UGH!!) and last week I was carrying the chow bowl and my coffee mug down the steps. Yep....the chow started to slide in the bowl and the mug slid to tthe edge like it was on ice. You just would never believe how much coffee a mug can hold until it lands on your carpet. (p.s.---my stair treds are a cream color so the coffe stains really stood out---had to wash them.) It's always something clumsy at the holiday time.

Fressa, I could still see a dark spot on the carpet, so I rewashed the spot this morning.  If I can still see it tomorrow, I will look for a spray can of stuff for carpets.  You are so right about how much mess a cup of coffee can make.  Your mess doesn't sound good either.  Then to top it off, when I was filling up a pail of hot water in my bathroom this morning,   I somehow knocked my dh's glucometer off the sink top & it went right into the pail of water.   DANG.  DOUBLE DANG!  He had to reorder another one.  It should be here in 3-5 days.  Arrrgh!

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Sunday, Jan. 9th)

Good Afternoon/Evening!  I always seem to spill something right after I clean the floor as well.  Hope you can get the stains out Glenda and Fressa.  Sorry you dropped your DH's meter into the water, Glenda.  That sort of thing always makes me mad at myself.  But, I have learned to forgive myself.

I am still waiting to hear from Barbara and Bev today.  Bev did call me yesterday evening to say that she was home, and one of her neighbors/friends had cleaned out the rotten food from the refrigerator (three weeks away sure didn't help), and the other planned to pick up her prescriptions today.  One was also going to pick up fresh milk, etc.  Bev was very tired, but glad to be home.

The hospice caregiver who has me pick up her groceries contacted me this morning, and she set up the Walmart pick-up for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. -- the earliest possible appointment.  A couple hours later, the volunteer coordinator emailed me that her sister had passed away this morning, and that he was sure he could find another family who needed my help.  I texted her to see if she still wants me to pick up her groceries tomorrow, but I have not heard back yet.  I am perfectly willing to help if she likes.

Glenda and I have something in common -- both of our oldest DGS' have COVID.  My DGS and his wife both got COVID, but she is sick and he doesn't have symptoms yet.  She is a nanny, and believes she got COVID from the baby she takes care of.  DGS isn't a happy camper since he is worried about work, plus his wife being sick.  I know they were vaccinated, but I am not sure if they were boosted.

I've been doing some cooking, plus an exercise DVD, and just came back from a walk.  Our weather is nice - sunny and high in the mid 60's.  A little windy, but not bad.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice evening and sleeps well.

Hugs,
