Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

Good Afternoon!  Another nice day here -- cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon.  I have heard that several areas of the country are expecting record-braking cold weather the next few days.  Hope the weather does not cause any problems for any of you.

Today is my SIL's birthday.  He texted to thank me for his card and "gift" (money).  But, I do not know if he is still scheduled to fly to Idaho tomorrow.  It seems like a pretty risky time to fly, but.....

Yesterday I realized that I was spending way too much time on-line, and that was magnified this morning.  I use my Echo device with Alexa as an alarm clock and source of news headlines, etc.

This morning, the alarm went off at the correct time (5:40 a.m. this time of the year), but the alarm would not stop ringing.  I got so frustrated that I pulled out the device, and went to my "office" to check my laptop.  It turned out that the internet was out in my neighborhood.  The first estimate was that it would be on around 8:00.

I had to sramble to figure out how to set the alarms I have for church, etc. -- it has been a very long time since I turned on the alarm on my clock.  Anyway, I took a longish walk when the sun came up, and came home and found the internet was still out.  The estimated time when it would be back was changed until  9:00 and then noon.  Fortunately it came back on closer to 9:30 than noon.

I am trying to cut back on my internet usage starting today.  Just crazy that I am so dependent on it.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

I spent almost 2 hours with a leaf blower and rake on Saturday to clear the front yard leaves.  It was cold overnight and on Sunday morning the yard looked as full of leaves as it did the day before, lol.  We had rain that transitioned to sleet and snow and then it snowed last night.  It's been cold enough for the snow to still be on the house roofs and grass as I post this.  The snow melted on the sidewalk and I didn't have to shovel.

There was a boy scout food drive on Saturday and I had a good time shopping for it on Friday.  The food drive benefits a food bank that I support financially and I like to support the scouts (girl or boy) to teach them at a young age that it's good to think of others.

I went to Catholic school from kindergarten through 12th grade.  I swear Catholics originated crowd funding or fundraisers (ha-ha).

I felt kind of bad for the young boy and his father - not many (on my block at least) participated in the food drive.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

Glad you didn't have to shovel snow, Bernie.  I remember that happening when I had deciduous trees.  I would spend lots of time raking, etc. only to have more leaves come back the next day.  But, I did not do much with leaves on the roof -- usually tried to get my husband to do that job.  I did get the leaves out of the front porch and lower level gutters, but not the upper level.

It is nice that the Scouts were doing the food drive.  I am like you -- do both financial donations and food.  The food banks encourage financial donations since they can get better prices, but I think I get more satisfaction when I pick up things and donate.  Sorry your neighbors were not so generous.

The Sheriff's Auxiliary was off and on busy today, which was good.  They are closed tomorrow.  My SIL made it to Idaho to visit oldest DGS and family -- thank goodness.  Hopefully, he will not have trouble getting home on Friday.

The TSV jacket looks nice, but I have way more jackets than I need already.  And, the price is more than I care to pay.

Sleep well everyone.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

Hi Everyone!

We finally have snow and cold temps. Winter is here. We still have more leaves falling so hopefully this is "really" the last time. The township still hasn't sent the truck to pick up the bags from last weekend.Hopefull, it's soon.

We don't have a food donation drop off around our area. There are more than a few local charities and shelters for both people and animals near us. (about 6-8) which I support. It's been increasing a bit thru the last few years. When I have clothing and larger items then I call the Vets or Salvation Army truck. I would like to have enough time for one last round of clothing, etc donations for this year but .....My timing for everything this year has been so off schedule.

We did find time to put the "Frosty" and oversized Christmas stake lights on the back patio. We got luckty that the ground wasn't frozen.  I'm not sure how much outside decorating I'll do this year. I still hope to put up 3 trees inside. Whatever it is it will be in a space away from wallpaper. UGH!!!

I thought about the Denim & Co TSV but didn't order it. I was tempted but am trying to resist spending.  One day at a time.I admit that the free S&H or a coupon always tempts me.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

Good Evening!  I think winter has come to several parts of the country, Fressa.  Glad you enjoy the colder weather and were able to get some of the decorations up before the ground froze.  Three trees is quite ambitious, but I'm sure they are lovely.

I had a pretty crazy day.  Both the Sheriff's Auxiliary and the senior lunch program were closed (as least that what was indicated on their schedules).

Since I had a free Tuesday, I decided to go to a breakfast gathering of some of the ladies in my church.  They meet every Tuesday at 8:00 at a local restaurant, and it looked like fun in pictures that they posted.

Anyway, I took a much shorter walk than usual because the sun didn't come up until 6:50 a.m., and I do not walk in the dark.  I managed to get to the restaurant in time, only to find that it was closed.  So, they moved the breakfast to a different restaurant nearby.  The minute I turned into the parking lot, I realized that the restaurant was really hopping.

Long story short, the group had grown to about 20 ladies, and the restaurant said that we needed to be finished by 8:45 since they had reservations, and needed to have us out by 9:00 a.m.

We sat down to a table full of dirty coffee cups, etc. from the previous group.  The poor waitress delivered glasses of ice water for everyone, and came back to take our orders.  They were very fast, but we had very little time to eat.  Then, she was running back and forth with accepting our payment.  I gave her a substantial tip.  Yikes.

Due to the noise and very long tables, etc., it was difficult to have conversations with many people, but I enjoyed it.

After breakfast, I went to the UPS store which was not too busy, and then went home.  Had a brief conversation with my DD, and then set out for a longer walk.  I was fairly close to home, when the head of the senior lunch program called me.  I was surprised, and said we are closed today, right.  No, not right.  The lady who did the calendars and signs thought we were closed, but we were not.  She revised the calendar, but I had not seen it.

The other female volunteer for Tuesdays has a different volunteer job one Tuesday a month, so they really needed my help.  Picture me practically running the rest of the way home, quickly changing my clothes, grabbing a banana bread out of the freezer, and going into work.

The director told me that she was very concerned when I didn't call or text saying that I was not coming in, and she was thinking about coming to my house if she had not gotten me on the phone.  The male volunteer said the same.  I was happy that I was missed, but.....

What a wild day.  Tomorrow I have a mammogram (routine), and plan to go to the grocery store, etc.  They are still predicting much cooler and rainy weather starting on Friday.  Nothing like other areas are having, but....

Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Susan, Barbara, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone slept well.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time, Monday, November 3rd

Hi Everyone!

It's another cool day with some wind gusts. The weather is a bit "off" ths year for us. I'm just happy the a/c season is over. The electric bill was just crazy. Hopefully, the rain will hold off for a few days until we can bag leaves for the last time. (fingers crossed)

Today I hope to get to the one animal shelter to donate a bag of food and cruncy treats. The dog food auto delievery messed up the order so I received puppy chow instead of the regular dog food and the treat order had a huge bag of banana flavor treats that our dogs can't eat. I have my fingers crossed that the correct order arrives today because I'm low (unusual) on our dogs chow. Our order was a complete disaster. It appears they combined two orders into one and everything but one bag of treats was wrong. I called and filled out the form on line but still......

LindaLatte---What a wild day you had! I agree with you on the reaction to the comment about showing up to your door. I would not like that at all. You can never be too safe or cautious is my thinking. I had a  situation where I couldn't get a window salesman to leave the outside of the garage area until he heard the dog on the steps. I'm on the line of thinking that if you don't have ID, or a business brochuer or a parked car on the street then you need to leave. I lived in the city for many years but I just think that you can never be too careful.

Have a good afternoon/evening.
