Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Monday July 26th)

Hello all, I was still kind of worn out yesterday by all the weather excitement from Saturday night.  We had storms moving across the state in a SE direction and when the tornado touched down in Armada, the sirens behind my house (don't live in Armada) went off and kept on going.  That was enough for me to try a first - relocate entire flock to the basement.

It was an interesting experience and I would say the birds fared better than I did Woman Very Happy  I was so lucky and only got heavy rain.  I didn't lose my power which was a blessing because it was humid and 90 yesterday.

I did the grocery shopping earlier this morning and was in and out.  I noticed more masks on faces today.  Delta is not a variant to play with. It's been so hot that I am ready for fall and am on the lookout for an inexpensive faux leather bag for the season.

I think I will place an online order for a pizza and some crazy bread and dash over to little caesars to get it from the pizza portal.  I started doing the online/pizza portal thing last year and it's now my preferred way to order food from LC.

How are you today?

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Monday July 26th)

Hi Everyone!

It's in the 90's today with hudmidity so my migraine is at an ugly level. No rain in our forecast for two days so we have sprinklers on the gardens. The dogs love playing with the hose water. It's just pure joy to see how happy they are.

Birdmama---what an ordeal for the sirens and relocating your flock to your safe area. I am only starting to gather supplies in ours. It still is not as organized as I would like but atl least I have some food, first aid kit, water and a sleeping bag. It's a start but I really need to get it pulled together a bit faster. I'm glad you were all fine. It's better to be safe than unprepared these days. There's been some crazy storms all over the states.

Today is laundry day for me but I've post poned washing the sofa covers. Tomorrow is bill paying day and I have another stack of miscellaneous paperwork to sort. I sure know how to have a good time around here. LOL

I did watch some of the Q this morning and was very tempted by the TSV. I switched over to HSN  who had there gadget/home program.  Their TSV looked similar to one I purchased from QVC last year. It's in the workroom and holds all those spare parts and small tools and extra screws, nuts, etc. It's great with the top because you  have a place to put what you have in your hand. I like this version a bit better but only need the one we have.

Our grandson has his closing on his first home today. We are so excited for him. I still remember chasing him around here and hearing that giggle.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

[ Edited ]

Good Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Bernie!  Glad you and the birds are okay, and you didn't lose power or have any damage.  Enjoy your pizza and crazy bread.

Hi Fressa.  Sorry to hear about your migraine and hot weather.  Yesterday was much cooler than normal here (highs only in the 70's), but rainy and humid.  Today we are expecting a high of 90 degrees or so, and the sun is back.  Congratulations to your DGS.  Buying a house is a big step for sure.

Our area is still recovering from the heavy rain and flooding.  The main intersection near me is still closed, but there is a detour you can take.  The local newspaper reported we lost 60 power poles, and they are still working on replacing them.  Most people have power back, but the major stores -- grocery and Walmart had to throw out all their frozen and refrigerated foods on Saturday. Apparently, not all are restocked yet.

Many people lost trees and cactus, and the parts of the roads and sidewalks on my walk are still filled with mud and debris.  A landscape crew was busy taking down a tree in the median this morning.  And there are many others.  We got a record-setting amount of rain.  We need the rain, but not all at once since it caused flooding/messes.

I was doing pretty well yesterday until the internet went out in the neighborhood.  It came back on, but my internet didn't, so I contacted the company.  After quite a long time (texting, etc.), they said that they would need to send a technician.  I could pay $75 for one visit or an extra $5 per month for no charge per visit.  I gave in and said I would pay the monthly fee, and then they told me the earliest the technician could come was Friday morning.  It was late by then, but I had trouble sleeping.

Anyway, this morning the internet was back, so I canceled the appointment.  Then, I had a chair yoga Zoom class, and the internet went out three times in an hour.  I tried to get another appointment, but they said there is an outage in the area, so I would need to wait.  Since then, the internet has worked fine (knock on wood).  I guess you can understand why I have a love/hate relationship with the internet.  Yikes!

I'm searching for a waterproof packable rain jacket (discovered the one I had for years wasn't all that waterproof any longer), and I think I have identified one on Amazon. I haven't ordered it yet, but.....

On the savings front, I finally tried the Keurig "K" cup that you can fill yourself and found that it works quite well (if you put in enough coffee).  It is much less expensive to buy ground coffee rather than the "K" cups unless you have a great sale.  I think Glenda has found some great sales, but I haven't been so lucky.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice evening and sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time (Monday July 26th)

LindaLatte---Sorry to hear about your storm damage and the internet problems. Flooding is always a worry to me. Water can move so fast and cause so much damage. We had distant family who lost their home from a heavy rainstorm and unsteady ground. The home actually collasped so the roof was at ground level. We have a large water tower at the very top of our huge hill. It looks more like a pool type than the tower on top of poles that you see in most areas. I tried to get some kind of flood/water insurance and couldn't. What a mess for the neighborhoods with trees, cactus and outages.

I think the internet outages always get on my last nerve. I think I'm going to need a notebook to keep track of what coverage I have on what item. It can make your head spin. I remember a line man for the phone company telling me that he couldn't fix our service because a squirrel was on top of the pole. Seriously???

I have that K cup that you can put your own grinds inside but it sometimes clogs. Does it need a special grind like fine or corse to work correctly? I tried a few times and then went back to the Kcups. I buy them in bulk from the Kuerig site with they have a sale and free shipping.

Enjoy your evening.

Hi Fressa, I have had the fillable K-cup for years, but didn't use it after the first couple of times since the coffee was weak.   I only started trying it again recently, and so far no problems.  I think I read (not sure) it is better to have finer than regular grounds, but the regular works okay for me.  I did order K cups from Keurig once -- excellent price, but I haven't found a good deal lately.  Hope that I can do so again.  Maybe you could mention it when they have free shipping and a sale.

That squirrel excuse takes the cake.  I agree with you about the coverages.

I thought of you when DD told me she took one of their little dogs to the vet today  -- she (the dog) has pink eye.  Hope the other dog doesn't catch it.  She has an ointment that is supposed to work in 10 days.  I didn't realize dogs get pink eye.

Wow Linda @LindaLatte  sorry about the flooding.  There are parts of my state south of me that can't catch a break from the flooding.  FEMA has been busy around here.

LindaLatte--I didn't realize thad dogs could get pink eye either. They sure get quite a few of the human illnesses. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all the dogs and a speedy recovery.
