Shopaholics One Day at a Time - July 18th - Saturday

Happy Saturday Shopping Friends :-)

Mother Nature is a hardhead and decided to stay in SE Michigan despite my plea to visit West Virginia.

My morning started on a sad note - a first year female sparrow came to my back door to pass away.  I don't know how else to describe it - they find me when they are sick and when they are dying.  I kept her comfy until she went back to God.  I then cleaned up the back yard of nuts and branches from the walnut tree.  My next stop was the Salvation Army to donate 5 pair of dress slacks (never worn).  I kind of went on a bender when JCP was discontinuing a brand that I liked and bought a drawer full of dress slacks in navy, gray, black and brown.  I have ironed slacks hanging in the closet and a spare set in the drawer.  The rest of them needed to go - I dress casually for work.

I also donated the last 2 dress shirts of my husband's.

I then hit the recycling center and off loaded the paper, plastic and cardboard.

I'm in the house and that's where I'm staying.  It's already 84 degrees out there and feels like a sauna.

Good morning Bernie and all who follow

We are having the same weather as you..it is like a sauna. The birds must sense your kindness..I know animals do that. I have learned to stock up when I find an article of clothing I like. Right now I sm debating a dress at jjill.

I had a bad flare yesterday after taking syd to the pool. I feel more human today.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - July 18th - Saturday

Hello everyone, hope everyone is doing well today.
birdmama, wow, that is just amazing the way birds come to you when they are in distress. I'm not sure I could handle that, especially when they can't be made well again. Hugs to you.
I finished cutting back the honeysuckle overtaking the trees this morning and got that mess cleaned up, hosed down the deck surrounding the pool and tidied up that area. My truck driving brother called me, asking about my truck driving daughter and how she was doing, then it started to rain...it was not even in the forecast, but just calling for partly cloudy. Geez, this is getting old. lol. But i was ready to come inside anyway by then. I put my last clean pair of shorts on this morning, had to come back and grab a belt to keep them up (I have disposed of 3 pair already this year and will be getting these donated too, now) The belt is also too big, but I can make a new hole in it, so I will probably keep it. The weight loss is weird, by the way I eat I should not be losing weight at all, but if it stops now, I am ok with it. I'll well within my perfect range, just wish I could build more muscle now. We had people coming over this afternoon to swim, but if the rain doesn't stop that is off. Other than that, I got no plans for the rest of the day besides finishing laundry. It's a exciting life I lead, lol. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Waving.....

Hi Bernie - thanks for starting our thread.  Even though it's sad that the little sparrow died, I'm glad that it knew love before it passed away.  Good job on donating your unused items.  I like to imagine the look on someone's face if they're struggling financially and they find a great deal - it's such a blessing when that happens.  (Been there.)  Barbara - sorry that the weather is like a sauna, hope the bad flare ups stay away and you feel good.

My DC said that they liked Venice yesterday except that it was "exceptionally hot".  They're in Innsbruck today and they said they were hoping for cooler weather.

We had a thunderstorm with a little rain this morning.  Nice for a change, though it'll be pretty humid later in the day.  I'm making some homemade goat milk yogurt today.  It's been years since I made yogurt so I'm having to relearn the whole procedure.  It should be a quiet day today.  Not complaining.   ~   Charlene

hello Ladies, sorry about your bird on your doorstep Bernie.....Very thoughtful of you to take care of him till he passed. it is hot here too after a storm this morning but surprised the sun came out. The weatherman said last night we are heading into the "dawg "(my Brooklyn accent) days of summer....a lot of hot humid days ahead.
LindaL I checked on Google to see the population of my town and it says about 60,000 I don't know if that's a lot or little compared to the ladies here. It also said that Ct had about 3 million people in the state.

not much going on here today, the Yankee game is about to start and I am glad it hasn't been rained out. have a nice day everyone........Marijane

Bird Mama,  You certainly have a heart of gold when it comes to these poor sick birdies.  It is hot & humid here too.  DH & I got groceries then came home & turned the a/c on.  I much prefer open windows & the cool breeze blowing.

Sydsgma, I am so sorry to hear that you were feeling poorly yesterday after taking Sydney to the pool.  I am very lucky that I do not get any side effects from my infusions.  My neurologist is amazed as he tells me all the time that he has patients that are in bed for at least 5 days after their infusions with horrible head aches  & others that shake so bad that they go into convulsions.

Our mini vacation was wonderful.  Lake MI looked so blue on Weds. & Thursday.  We did enjoy getting our feet wet as others were brave enough to swim in the cold water.  We didn't know that there was a fishing contest going on at the campground that we stay at so we were lucky to get a spot for Weds. & Thurs. nights.  My only purchase was a NT beautiful blue denim jacket for $5.00.  The gal  that checked me out said it was a good co. with very nice clothing.  The only reason that I went into the store was it said Scandinavian Things & More.

It is too hot to think today so I am fixing BLT's for lunch & DH will do steak on the grill for dinner.

Hugs to all of you & I hope you all have a fun weekend.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - July 18th - Saturday

happy you had a nice mini vacation Twinny.....had to laugh about only putting feet in water...all the years we lived up in Maine I think I only went in the ocean once....usually just putting my feet in would sent shooting pains up my legs...my kids always went in though. You could tell the natives as they were usually the only ones that went in., even in August it was never warm. Hope hou can get some relief from your a/c....we've had ours going both up/downstairs for the past few days....it has gotten very humid out...it doesn't bother me though .

Hope you are feeling better Barbara. I have been seeing all the sales at Jjill....I buy from them too but lately have been seeing most of their clothes with linen in them.....not too sure I like that.....have you bought any and if so does it get wrinkled and you have to iron ..the iron and me are not friends!
Waves to pinky,LindaR and Karen haven't seen you in awhile.

Snicks, It sounds like you are very good at keeping up with your lawn even though you have had a lot of rain.  I hope that your friends can come over today & enjoy your pool.  I have lots of laundry to do too but it will need to wait for a less humid & hot day.

cerb, it sounds like your DC are still having a great trip.  Thanks for the memories.  We were supposed to get TS this a.m., but none so far.  I hope that we get rain tonight & maybe then it will cool off some.  I bought some goat's milk solid lotion in a bar last Sept. when our town had it's big festival. This young gal comes every 2 years & she along with her DH raise 500 goats.

Marijane,  We get the "dog days of summer", but usually the middle of August.

DH is outside on the riding lawn mower.  It is too hot for me so I am trying to entertain myself in the house.  My hands are stinging so bad that DH will be getting the dish washing duty tonight.

Re: Shopaholics One Day at a Time - July 18th - Saturday

Barbara, I'm sorry you had a flare yesterday.  It's good to read that you are feeling a bit better today.

Snicks, I had to accept early on in my relationship with birds and St. Francis (lol), that all kinds would find my door and I would not always 'win'.   The wind picked up over an hour ago and we got a steady rain of really fat raindrops.  Guess I have a legitimate excuse besides the heat for not cutting the grass.  I don't know about anyone else, but my grass tends to slow down about in the growing department at this time of year.

Charlene - do your goats stay out in the rain or do they go into a barn?  The reason I ask is yesterday I was watching a couple of wild pigeons on my garage addition roof during rain.  Some sat there kind of hunched over like they weren't digging the rain.  Another one lifted one wing, then the other as though it was enjoying the shower.  :-)

Marijane, my city has about twice the people of your town.  We seem to pick up 1,000 people per year.  Frankly, I prefer less people :-)

Twinny, I'm glad you enjoyed your mini vacation.  Lakes Michigan and Superior seem to stay frigid don't they?

Twin my..I get very bad headaches from my infusions...not a fun time but I would hate to not get them. I have been to door county several times and loved the fish boils.

Genny.I have a few pieces of jjill linen..but the are a blend. I have a maxi dress that does require some touch up with an iron. I much prefer their blends. I have some beautiful sweaters from there also.
