Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Well, hopefully the snow is done.  We had 15 inches yesterday and just go the driveways and sidewalks shoveled and blown off.  Now, we have to wait over a week to get above freezing temps to melt it.  I think it will get above freezing in a week.  I think by maybe June the snow will be melted.  Have I ever told you how much I dislike snow.  Of course school was closed today and and some business are.  Yesterday there were a lot of business closed and I think Walmart closed early.  It is suprising the amount of people on Facebook (in this area) who were mad because they still needed things.  For most of them, they had 2 days or more to prepare.  I just don't get it.

Hope everyone has power and is safe.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Susan thanks for starting the thread.  I would estimate that I got around 6 inches of snow from Saturday night until Sunday night.  I shoveled first thing in the morning yesterday and then again early in the afternoon.  I shoveled this morning and cleared out the driveway approach - the plow came through last night.

I like snow however I don't mind telling you that I hope to have a few days of recovery before I need to go out there and shovel again.  We're under another cold weather advisory and the night time lows this week are going to be rough.

Michigan winters, whatcha gonna do, lol.

Good Evening and thanks for getting us started, Susan.  That is certainly a lot of snow -- glad the sidewalks and driveways are shoveled and blown off.  Had to chuckle about your prediction that the snow will be melted by June.  I am definitely not a snow fan myself.  And, ice is even worse.

Sorry you keep having to shovel, Bernie.  But, I know you are experienced in doing so.

DD said her area was fine -- no icing, etc., but other areas of the State were having problems.  It is very cold there, and she was happy to have a Dennis Basso faux fur coat to wear.

My Maryland friends are dealing with ice and staying home.  Most are retired, and bought plenty of food, etc.  Their power has not been affected, thank goodness.

The Sheriff's Auxiliary was not busy this afternoon, but another volunteer and I had some interesting conversations.

My hairdresser postponed my appointment until Saturday because she was not feeling well.  So, I was able to take a nice afternoon walk -- it was only 32 degrees this morning, so I just walked around the house rather than outdoors.

Waves to Susan, Bernie, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Yes, I hear ya!  About the same here.  I believe we got about 13 inches.  I hope we get a break from the snow for a while.  This is overwhelming.  We haven't had snow like this in many, many years.  We did fine somebody to shovel the necessary areas but our lower driveway will have to wait.  This bitter cold, as you stated, is due to continue on for quite some time, so there is no chance for any of this to melt.  This large snow was predicted for some time, so don't get why some people acted like they didn't know???

The worrying thing now is we are all hoping we don't lose power - heat - and also the fear of frozen pipes!

Best wishes to all.  Yes, stay safe and be careful if you do need to shovel!  And the cold - take it in small increments!

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Hi Everyone!

Lots of snow and some ice.  I'm guessing that  we got over a foot. (I measure from the ground to the dogs belly. )  More wind today but still not too bad compared to some states. This is one time when the hubby said that he could really use both types of snow machines. (the gas so he could run it until the tank went dry) and the battery because it was easier to push up the hills. Hope everyone paces themselves and gets plenty of rest.

The twonship has attempted to make a pass thru but posted that 37 of the 100+ trucks broke down. I just shake my head. They should have checked that out before they sent the message a few days ahead of the storm how well prepared they were. They didn't update on the delivery of salt that was scheduled and if it made it here or not. These storms are like when I was a kid so it's like "old times"

I was surprised to see "garden shows" on the Q last night. It looked like clearance items unless I missed the best offers.

The stores are still closing early in our area as well. (4 o'clock seems to be the common time)

I had disconnected the timer on the outdoor Frosty a few weeks ago but he was too snowy to put him in the shed. I'm using him to measure the snowfall. So far, it's up to his tummy.(he's about 4" )

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Good evening ladies, hope all is well.

Fressa - Pittsburgh lost 31 of the 90 something trucks.  They have gotten 21 of them back on the road.  There is no garbage pick up there this week because they put snowplows on them and they are plowing now.  I guess you can not always predict when a truck will break down.  Of course, they could have hit hidden potholes ( it is getting bad around our area for them).   I do like the way you measure snowfall with the dog.  I never thought of that before.

Linda - It was nice your hairdresser cancelled instead of spreading the "love".  It may be 32 at your place in the morning - I still want your weather.  Glad DD's weather was not too bad.

Bernie - Glad you didn't get too much snow.  I would have loved to had only 6 inches.

AngelPuppy1 - Glad you found someone to plow for you.  It is funny how people act like no one told them.  People will be people.

We only had a dusting of snow today, but, the freeze is settling in.  Hopefully, we get some sunshine to help keep the streets clear.  We haven't had mail service for a couple days, maybe we will get some tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great evening, stay warm.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Good Evening!  Nice to see you posting on this thread, AngelPuppy1.  Glad you got some help with shoveling.  I heard a report on the news about life-threatening problems older people and people with certain health conditions can have if they shovel snow -- particularly heavy snow and for long periods of time.

We do get small amounts of snow in southern Arizona, but I have never needed to shovel it.  I remember spending hours doing so in Maryland, and many of my Maryland friends are posting about the accumulations of snow and ice in that area.

That is a shame about the broken snow plows Fressa and Susan.

My Dad worked at the airport in DC, and he made extra money plowing the runways when it snowed.  The guys who drove the plows worked as many hours as possible and he often would be away from home for several days.  I think some of the plows did break down, but I'm sure they did their best to get them back in service as fast as possible.

I heard that stores were not open regular hours and mail was delayed as well.  Certainly glad I don't have to deal with all those issues.

The senior lunch program was not too busy today, but there was a shortage of desserts.  Hopefully, the director will buy some extras (probably cookies).  They keep changing the rules about where we get food, etc.

I had the extra eye test (for glaucoma) for my left eye.  I let her do it twice, but I don't think it was what the eye doctor wanted -- oh well.  Then, I went to the gym.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

It's currently 17 degrees outside and you know it's bad when I step out and say, wow this doesn't feel to bad.  The windchills have been pretty crisp in the morning and we're heading into dangerous temps tomorrow night into Friday.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Hi Everyone!

Our weather is more of the same. The sun is out for a bit so the ice melter is doing it's job on the driveway. YIPPE!!! We have more of the same in the forecast thru next week. It's quite the storm for all of us. Today was the first day a few of the deer came thru our yard. I take that as a sign that nothing with claws and teeth are near us in the woodss.

We had the first mail delivery of this week so that was a relief. I was trying to sort thru the check book to remember what was a paper bill and what was online.  I'll need to update that listing. UPS also delivered a dog food order so that was a nice surprise. That company's deliveries have increased the time line for shipping recently so I'm still trying to treak the skedule.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At a Time Monday 1/26

Good Afternoon!  It is warming up here -- high of 69 degrees expected today, and in the mid-70's tomorrow.  It is still chilly in the mornings, but above freezing.  I hope all of you in colder areas keep warm and safe.

The weather in DD's area in South Carolina has been very cold lately and there is a winter weather advisory with the possibility of 2 - 5" of snow this weekend.  They are already recommending staying off the roads.  She was suffering from a bad migraine on Tuesday, and her new (just a few months old) dishwasher broke.  The repairman came yesterday and said the motor had burned out, and he would need to order a new one.  It is still under warranty, but this is quite upsetting.

Glad your mail and UPS came, Fressa.  Our poster Kathleen said her work was closed Monday and Tuesday due to the weather in Texas.  And, one of my friends whose brother lives in Florida said that they are expecting very cold weather there on Sunday.

I am getting my Prolia (osteoporosis medicine) this afternoon, so I went to the gym this morning.  It was fairly crowded, but I was able to use the machines that I wanted.

Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,
