Shopaholics: One Day At A Time (10/23 , Saturday)

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Having a lazy, boring day here.  The weather is getting cooler and rainy, we had rain this morning but, now it just blah out.

Jean - Hope you are doing well and feeling better.  How long do you have to wait to have surgery after you are over the covid?

Fressa - Hope you are feeling better also.

Not much happening here, we got rid of a TV that was broken at the recycle event here and some dead batteries so the garage looks cleaner.

Well that is all the excitement around here, what is everyone up to today?

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At A Time (10/23 , Saturday)

Hi Everyone!

Palady---I have an old tv under the computer desk until we have our township pickup. They used to have them often but now it's only every other year and they are very specific with what they wil and will not accept. Even the garbage company now has an list of can and cannot be put at the curb without an extra fee.

It's coudy and cool today. We had heavy rain during the night but no wind so we are relieved. We had some storm cleanup. There's a situation with two trees and branches near power lines but I will focus on that next week. That is suppose to be under the light companies list of maintainece so I'm crossing my fingers that true.

We have one of the doe and the 3 fawns in the front yard having dinner. For some reason they seem to love the wild mint and clover that is growing under the holly bushes.

I'm still resting (for me) but I do feel a bit better each day. I think I must have gotten dehydrated again (which always seems to sneak up on me)  I've had my fill of watching tv so I figure on on the mend.

I still hope to dispose the old rug that was under all the yard equipment we gave our grandson for Monday's garbage pickup. It's amazing how much space we have on that side of the garage. You sort of lose sight of it with mowers, blowers and chppers.

Jean---hope you are feeling a bit better each day.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At A Time (10/23 , Saturday)

Susan, it's a beautiful sunny 50's day, so I did my walk & went to the Farmer's Market.  They have the best Amish cheese bread for $3.50, so I treated myself.  It was RX drop off day, so I drove to our police station & dropped off my 2 unused epi pens.  Darn as they are $$, but then I was glad that I didn't have to use them.  Then I made our yearly donation to Shop With a Cop."

I had a good visit with my neurologist on Monday.  Don't have to go back for a year unless I have a problem. I did some fun shopping at Hobby Lobby.  Everything I bought was 1/2 price.  I bought a 3' scare crow, table runner and 6 matching cloth napkins.  Then we stopped at a farm stand and bought 2 large pumpkins.  It makes the front porch look nice as well as the living/dining rooms.

On Tuesday, we went on a nice road trip. It was a perfect beautiful day for getting on the free ferry & a leaf peeping day.

Late Wed afternoon, we had a couple from our traveling club stop by for dinner and overnight.  They are from MN & left for Pittsburgh at 8:30 Thursday morning.  It was so nice to do a bit more decorating.

We got our flu shots 1I days ago. Yesterday morning we went to our favorite cheese factory and when we got back home, there was a message on the answering machine.  I was so excited as I thought it was our pharmacy saying we could get our Booster.  When I played the message back, it was for the flu shots. Darn!

It's time to start dinner.

Hugs to all of you.

Fressa, I am sorry that you are still under the weather.  We can't put anything on the curb anymore without a sticker that costs $$, depending upon what you put out.  We used to have a collection day every year, but that stopped several years ago.  We bought two mum plants at the Farmers Market last week and so far so good.  The squirrels found the two big pumpkins as soon as we put them outside.  Since we got our first frost last night, my dh brought the mums in last night.  It's supposed to be in the upper 30's at night and 50's for the next week or so.  I am loving it.

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At A Time (10/23 , Saturday)

Good Afternoon/Evening and thanks for getting us started, Susan.

Jean posted on FB that she is surviving.  Her cough has diminished, and her oxygen level is okay, but she continues to be very tired.  She has no idea when her surgery will be rescheduled, but wants to avoid winter storms/ice/snow.

Glad you were able to get rid of the TV.  I don't think that is possible here except if you go to Best Buy or some other place and pay a fee.  Best Buy takes old computers for no charge, but that doesn't apply to televisions.  And, the White Elephant will not accept broken or older TVs, and you can't put them out with the trash or recycling.

Hi, Fressa.  Sorry you are still not feeling too well.  Hope you continue to improve.  Some wildlife ate most of my chives that were growing on a pot on my front porch, but so far my other plants (mostly cactus) seem to be okay.

That is great news from your neurologist, Glenda.  Glad you had a nice road trip and some fun shopping.  I went to our local "farmers market" when I had my hair cut on Wednesday, and the least expensive bread I found was $6.00 for half a loaf.  I decided that it would be less expensive for me to make my own bread even if I needed to buy some special flour.  But, then I decided that I didn't want to bother.  LOL

Sorry about your pumpkins.  At least the mums are okay.  Glad you are enjoying the colder weather.  I am enjoying our cool nights and warm days.

I took a nice walk this morning, did some cooking, participated in Zoom meditation, and did laundry.  DH's friend and my friend Jo Ann called, so no exercise DVD yet.  But, I plan to do that plus my weekly financial review later.

Have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics: One Day At A Time (10/23 , Saturday)

Hello all, thanks for the update on Jean, Linda @LindaLatte

I got the chills last night, took my temp and it was normal (under 98).  I thought maybe it was because I was wearing a short sleeve t-shirt, then again I have the thermostat set on 77 so it probably wasn't that.  I went to bed wearing a long sleeved t-shirt and cardigan (lol) and slept from 9:30 until 8 am with only one bathroom break.

Felt fine this morning, had coffee and toast, nothing out of the ordinary.  I was eating a couple of sloppy joe sandwiches while visiting with my sister (my house) and I thought wow my right jaw joint hurts.  The parotid glad was swelling - that's the big salivary gland

I thought that was weird and immediately worried I could be coming down with mumps even though I had them as a kid.  After all, my sister was sitting across the table from me and I was breathing you know?

The swelling went down in front of my ear after about 90  minutes and I didn't really give it a second thought.  I texted my sister to let her know it was better - usually with mumps it comes and stays awhile.

I decided to eat some chips and dips and darn it if it didn't happen again.  I used a warm compress, massaged the parotid gland (watched a doctor show how on youtube) and it's fine again.  My ears kind of tickle and I wonder if my body is fighting something.  I took a Zicam to boost my immune system and will take another before bedtime.

What a peculiar experience.

On the fun side, I received my JCP order yesterday.  The hat and scarf are a bit more mauve than I thought they would be but I can work with the color.  I love the blouse I ordered.

[ Edited ]

Linda L, the squirrels found the pumpkins, but are just climbing on them so far.  My dh saw 2 squirrels eyeing the 3' scare crow that's sitting on the glider next to a big pumpkin.

Since we have garbage/recycle bins we can't put anything on the curb.   That's why I declutter often & put things in the bins or donate.

Glenda

ETA:  Linda L, the loaf of bread that I bought was a heavy full loaf.  I am not a bread maker so it's a nice substitute for me.

Bird Mama, many years ago, my mom had a similar experience to what you just had.  My dad took her to the ER & they said that a seed got stuck in the salivary gland and told her to suck on a hard lemon candy.  It worked.  I also had that happen to me when we were getting ready to board a plane heading for Hawaii about 31 years ago.  The hard sour lemon candy cured me too.  I haven't had that problem since.

Yea I thought so too Linda @LindaLatte   As soon as my sister left the house I was googling up a storm, lol, to find out what glands were in that area.  I always wondered how saliva gets in the mouth and now I know.
