Shopaholics ODAT - Tuesday May 9

Hi everybody - I've been reading our thread, but too busy to post till now.  Hope that everyone is doing well.  Bernie - I hope that you enjoy the necklace from Hagit.  I have several of her pieces and think that they're good quality.  2Suwn5 - I agree with you about how time flies.  Good control over those CCs!  twinny - I'm enjoying the tales of your vacation.  I'm living vicariously through you.  Jean - did your plants survive the cold weather?

Even in CA we got a couple of colder days.  We got a dusting of snow in the mountains which is pretty unusual in May.  And I mean the 10,000+ foot mountain that anchors the east end of our valley.  I've had a number of little things to take care of recently, including returning one of the 2 tops I had ordered from Target.  Loved one, the other, not-so-much.  I bought a pair of capris and a bathing suit (!!!) from Walmart.  I still have clothes that are either too big or too small, so I'm trying to fit a few things in here and there to flesh out the wardrobe.  I also had my physical with my doctor yesterday.  Sigh.  I like her a lot as a person, but I just don't think she's that great of a doctor.  Anyway, sounds like I get to remain on Nexium indefinitely.  I'm finally feeling better after 2 weeks of yuck.

Then there's our vehicle situation.  My DS called to tell us that his old Blazer isn't running right AGAIN.  My DH thinks it's the head gasket, and we're just not willing to put any more into that money pit of a vehicle.  Even before this most recent breakdown I was wondering how it would make it all the way back to Virginia.  So my DH and I talked it over, and we've decided to give our DS my Toyota Camry, and buy me a new one.  My Camry is 17 years old, but only has 128,000 miles on it and runs great.  I think, with care, it could keep going for several more years.  I've been looking at new Camry's online, and later today my DH and I are going to go shopping.  I had hoped to drive my old car for a couple more years before buying a new one, the plan has just been moved up.

I don't like change very much.  I'm going to miss my car.  It's taken good care of me these past 17 years.  I know a lot of other people wouldn't  be caught driving an older car like that, but that's not my style, lol.

And that's my update for now.  Hoping you all have a great Tuesday!  ~  Charlene

Hi @cerb and @meallen616

Charlene, I know you will miss your car, however I agree with you re: DS blazer.  Once you get into head gasket territory, it's time to give up the ghost.

It was 2 degrees warmer this morning - wooo hoooo, lol.  I'm still wearing a winter coat and corduroy pants.

Charlene--Thank you for starting the thread. Enjoy  the car shopping. There are so many great options out there, but I know that the right choice will be made.

Bernie--I agree with you. It is time to find another vehicle or it will be a continued money pit.

meallen--Thank you for your usual great choice of a graphic.

I went to the city today to have an estimate made on repair to my car's fender. Someone gave it a little nudge in a parking lot and in  bad light, it didn't look too bad but in bright light, the apparent paint scratch was actually a dent in the fender which also pushed the front headight a little out of place and a minor thing to the bumper. The guilty culprit perhaps didn't realize what they had done or just decided to escape.

Thanks to my insurance, I won't have a problem but it is amazing how such a small thing can add up to what I consider something I wouldn't want to pay personally: $1,208.00. Once the body person pointed out the problems other than the obvious, I could see them but they just aren't apparent with a quick look. They are booked up so I have to wait until the week of the 22nd to have the work done. Rental car, here I come.

After the estimate, I had lunch at the Outback and then visited a friend who is recovering from recent spinal surgery. No shopping today.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Tuesday May 9

Good Evening!  Thanks for getting us started, Charlene.  Sorry that you will need to replace your car, but I agree your son's car is turning into a "money pit".  Hope you will find a new one you love as much as your 17-year old one.  Also sorry you are not happy with your doctor, and need to be on the medicine "indefinitely".  At least you are feeling a little better.  I keep seeing some cute things at Wal-Mart -- trying to resist since I don't need new clothes.  Need to have some serious conversations with myself.  LOL

I think we got your cooler than normal weather here in Arizona.  It reached 100 degrees here last week when I was in Maryland, and today's high was only in the mid 60's with off and on rain, and it was fairly windy.  Quite unusual for this date in May.  Several people told me that they like the cooler weather, but that does not apply to me.  DH was wearing shorts and a T-shirt when I visited this afternoon, and I put on a sweatshirt and long pants -- I could not get them all the way up, but he was chilly.

My trip home from Maryland went fairly well, but I was up from midnight Arizona time (3:00 a.m. there) yesterday, and I stayed up until about 10:30 last night.  Talk about tired, but I did sleep pretty well last night.  I was disappointed with DH yesterday -- he was very tired and kept falling asleep, but today was much better.  I think he is happy to have me home.

Nice graphic, meallen.

Keep warm, Bernie.  I didn't like seeing those window washers when I worked at a tall building.  I was on the 15th floor for quite a while, but that was way high for me.

Sorry about your  needed car repairs, Jean.  But, I'm glad that your insurance will cover the damage.  Having those seemingly small dents, etc., can be quite expensive with less than obvious damage.  Glad you had a nice lunch and visited your friend.

I need to have my lab work done tomorrow in advance of my physical next week.  Not looking forward to waiting for breakfast, but...   Fortunately, I am allowed to have black coffee.  Hoping I won't get a headache as long as I have the caffeine.

Waves to all of our posters and readers, and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda
