Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

We are having a heat wave today, it is supposed to hit 36 degrees, we will see how it goes. It would not be as bad out if the wind would stop blowing. I know it is only January and I am sick of winter already.

Kathleen - I think when you watch Hoarders, sometimes it makes you realize why you keep some of the things you do. And also it gives you permission to throw out and donate that stuff.

Not much going on today, don't need the TSV or anything else for that fact. I do have to go to the store to pick up something for dinner we will be having 2-3 of the grandkids over and I don't have enough of anything here for 5 people. With just DH and I, I don't keep a lot of any one thing to eat here, so when we have company it is off to the store.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Sunday

Good Morning! Thanks for getting us started Susan. Sorry about your cold weather despite the "heat wave". This is the time of the year that I really appreciate being away from the "normal" January temperatures in most places. We should get up into the 60's today, and it is sunny. I know many can't tolerate our summers, but I will take them over being cold.

Like you, I tend not to keep large quantities of particular foods in the house since it is mostly just the two of us. I usually don't want to have more than one repeat of a dinner, so having five people would probably send me to the store as well. I know that when DH's DD and family were here that message came through loud and clear. Enjoy the time with your grandchildren. How old are they?

I have only watched Hoarders a few times, and that show definitely can reinforce the de-cluttering message. I also read a book on the subject that said that most of us are somewhere in a continuum between hoarder and minimalist. My effort is to move at least slightly to the minimalist side as time passes.

My plans for the day are going church and the gym plus a bit of ironing. It would be nice to take a walk as well, but I'm not sure if we will have time. We have been invited to dinner by a neighbor, and I'm looking forward to that as well as Downton Abbey later.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, Marijane, LindaR, Karen, Rosa, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Sunday

Susan--Thank you for starting the thread. I was up early, showered and WEN'd. I also donated some more items to the donation box, but this was not a concentrated effort. I spotted the items in passing in another room, and just decided to part with them. Less is more, as it permits you to really know what you have, enjoy those items more frequently, etc. I did see an organizational item presented on the Q this morning which I really think might be useful. The reviews are excellent; the item folds up when not needed. I haven't bit on it yet, but if I don't buy it then it will go on my wish list.

Linda--Enjoy your day including the dinner with the neighbor and the Abbey outing later. I do keep shelf stable foods on hand, especially if there is a sale. I go to the store when I run out of veggies or my Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt which is not carried in the local supermarket.

My goal for today is to go through some clothes I have tucked away as back ups. They are loose on me now but I kept them just in case the weight came back, or to wear around the house.

Well, instead of the clothes, I started going through drawers again. I've spent an hour doing that so I'm taking a break. I have a box of kitchen utensils, pots, etc. which I have not used for a period of time so they are going the donation route. After the rest, I'll tackle the clothes for a little diversity.

I did measure the area in which I considered using the storage units shown today and they will work but I am still delaying the purchase. I need to comparison shop Amazon.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Sunday

Hi girls! Well, the promised warmer temps have yet to materialize; it's still in the 30s out there, and overcast. I HATE winter! {#emotions_dlg.crying} The rest of the week is supposed to be in the high 40s, but rain is forecast for tomorrow, so my hibernation continues.

I finished the first book in a delightful new series of cozies: Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind, by Ann Ross. The main character is a woman who finds herself suddenly widowed, but has no idea of how to care for herself, as her husband was a domineering man who "took care" of everything. Turned out his was a millionaire, but one day she answers the door to find a young woman with a little boy, who turn out to be her late husband's lover and illegitimate son. It's an amusing, light read that I really enjoyed; I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Jean, the reviews on that book turned me away from it, largely for the reasons you stated; I ended up going with Flirting With Felicity and Everything Burns.

I'd have plenty of food in the house to feed five or more - problem is, it would be frozen! One thing I'm trying to do is not stock up on so much food, unless it's something canned or pasta, since it lasts forever (can't resist the BOGO sales); I end up tossing a lot of it, because I either forget I have it, or else I get tired of it. The dogs don't mind, but...it gets expensive! {#emotions_dlg.crying}

Nothing much going on here either. Classes start tomorrow, but as for today, I'm going to veg out with the next in the Miss Julia series - the book I got from the library has the first two in it.

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Sunday

Susan, It is nice & sunny here today too. No wind so that is a plus. I love 30's this time of year. It is supposed to be nice & mild all week. I don't want to snow to melt as it took us a long time to get it. Tourism counts on snow for our state as we have very nice snowmobile trails. Have fun with the GC? How many do you have?

LL, Have fun with your dinner tonight. My Mom & MIL watch Downton Abbeybut I have never seen it. I only saw hoarders once & that was enough to make me take care of things & not over do a good thing. I remember when DH & I were looking at houses a long time ago, we went through a house for sale that only had a pathway through each room. I don't know if they ever did sell the house. We also once went through a houes that I thought was so cute to find it filthy inside. Then we built one.

Jean, Like you say, "less is more." I like cleaning out the drawers as I can remove them & do them in the LR while watching TV. Lazy I know, but it works for me. I got rid of a lot of kitchen utensils a couple of years & haven't missed one thing that I got rid of. Now I can open each drawer & see what I actually do have in them. It seemed like I used the same few things over & over & over again anyway.

FHG, It sounds like you have been reading some very good books. Sorry your temps aren't warming up for you. I like snow & not rain this time of year.

It was a lazy day after going to church today. We did enjoy the hot tub & then I took a much needed nap. DH watched the "Packer" game. I dislike football so a nap was more important. Now I feel really refreshed. Tonight will be Kindle time.

Hugs to all of you.

Twinny--It is so much easier to sort things if you have entertainment while doing it. I call it multi-tasking, but not lazy.

Arlene--I finished "Heart Collector" today. Apparently, it was a best selling novel in France under another name, but the name was changed when it was translated into English. It was actually a good character study of motivation and what drives people.

I'm watching the Nutrisystem show with Marie Osmond. I met her at QVC in one of its audience participation shows. She shared a peppermint patty with me when talking about the product.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Sunday

Hi ladies! I haven't gotten rid of anything today, but DD is coming home soon and she will help me be merciless! I also need to go through my cabinets - I have way too many cake mixes and baking supplies that won't be able to be used for a while. The propane oven in the rv is very tricky and will take some learning. ::sigh::

I did go through the junk room and got rid of a bunch of boxes and papers - packing supplies that I "might need some day".
