Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Not much going on here today, just have no zip to do anything.  We did get the grocery shopping done and am working on the laundry, but, I think that will be it today.  We did have a little rain awhile ago, and I think some more is on the way.

Well the dryer buzzed, I have to go and hang shirts.  Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Susan--Thank you for starting the thread. I completely understand not having much zip to do anthing. Sometimes, we need a slower pace. At least, you have the laundry done, and sometimes that is a major chore despite having wonderful washers and dryerrs.

I'm home from work as I only had to work the morning. I am exhausted, however, and feel like I'm catching something. I subbed in a first grade class yesterday where half the class was home sick with a strep throat, and apparently part of them had come the day before and got to the point that they had to be sent home. In the meantime, the nasty stuff got spread more.

I'm having some coffee while watching an IM show but I'm getting ready to head for the bed. No, I don't want a puffer jacket. I don't want to look like the MIchelan man. Only skinny people can get by with that look.

[ Edited ]

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Thanks for getting us started, Susan.  Sorry for your lack of zip today, but it sounds like a good day to take it easy.

It is sunny here today, and it should get up into the 80's, but it was nice and cool this morning.  DH and I walked up to the firehouse where they were having their annual breakfast for the community.  There were a number of exhibits there, and one I found very interesting.  There is a new device designed to shake up hard of hearing people when the smoke/fire alarm goes off.  You put it in your bed.  I never heard of such a device, but what a great idea.  They were offering them for free, but neither DH and I are that hard of hearing.

The breakfast was nice (pancakes, sausage, and scrambled eggs along with coffee and OJ), and I cleaned my plate.  LOL  DH didn't do so well, but he did eat more than half of his breakfast.

It seemed to work out pretty well to have our friend here with him while I was in class.  They took a short walk, and she prepared tons of snacks, etc.  I really don't know how she found everything.  I had put out some mugs, fruit, etc., but she used different ones.  She was knitting when I arrived home (a bit earlier than expected), and she finished her row before she left.  She said it went well, and DH woke up to thank her.  She plans to come again at the end of the month.

Giving her some flowers is a great suggestion, thanks.  I need to see if either of the local florists do a decent job -- both of them get pretty poor reviews on Yelp.  Maybe I will go and pick up an arrangement, and take it to her house.  That way I can be sure that it is what I want.

We will be leaving for the gym shortly, and then we will go to the party at the day services center later.  We will need to leave a little early so I can make it to my doctors appointment on time.

DGS' friend with a brain tumor had  lengthy surgery yesterday, and he has not woken up yet.  Prayers for Colin are appreciated.  That DGS has a football game this evening.  DD texts me with information about the game, which is fun for me.  MIddle DGS has taken a job cleaning and maybe serving at a local restaurant.  Hope that goes well for him.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, Arlene, Bernie, snicks, Marijane, LindaR, Charlene, twinny (praying for you), Rosa, Karen, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice Friday everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Hello all, thanks for starting the thread Susan. I am about the same as you, not much zip about me today. Did my grocery shopping yesterday and finished up a load of laundry this morning. Not much else going on. We got rain overnight and it is cool here today.

Jean, hope you don't catch whatever bugs are floating around school. I have never been sick so often as when I had kids in school. I don't want or need a puffer jacket either, lol.

Linda, glad you enjoyed breakfast at the firehouse this morning. That device for hearing impaired sounds really interesting and could well be a life saver. It amazes me what new technology comes up with all the time. Glad it worked out well for your neighbor and dh for her to come sit with him while you were out. That is really nice of her. I'm sure the flowers will be appreciated. Seems you have another full afternoon of activities, enjoy. So sad about your dgs's friend. Hope he recovers quickly and returns to good health as quickly as possible.

I had to drag out my carpet shampoo-er again this morning, my dog paid me back last night for leaving her home alone too long the other day, lol.

Nothing else going on here. Hope everyone has a great day, and weekend. Waves...

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

I spent the afternoon reading and resting with my favorite mouser curled up beside me. I'm feeling better.

I see that UPS has delivered the Susan Graver TSV jacket to the Post Office. Had I known that I would have gone to the Post Office before it closed. I'll have to stop at the Post Office tomorrow morning and pick it up, or I won't be able to get it until sometime next week.

I did get the TSV silver omega back earrings yesterday. I got the black or hematite looking ones, and it surprised me that they look very good and are substantial for the price.

Linda--That is very interesting about the smoke alarm for the hearing impaired. I had seen alarm clocks on Amazon that operated similarly in that they vibrate heavily and shake you awake, so something like that. I am glad that things seem to be working out for you and DH regarding his care. The flowers would be a great way to show your appreciation to the person who was so thoughtful to sit with him while you were out.

Snicks--I think our animal friends have been talking to each other. Midnight doesn't get sick often but yesterday, instead of barfing on the kitchen floor, utility room, etc., he chose the comfy carpeting. It was a quick clean up.

I am now just seeing the Honora TSV. Somewhere in a jewelry box, I have some Honora that has been rarely worn. I think there is a message in that.

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Hi girls!  Well, I just got off the phone with the ISP - I'm having problems with a sloooooow computer again.  (sigh)  The guy was really nice and helpful; I lost the connection as I ran out of minutes, but we continued in an on-screen chat as he had taken over my computer remotely.

The warm weather continues, which I'm glad for, but it's raining out and a heavy thunderstorm is forecast, so there go my plans to cut back some weeds - darn! Cat Wink  No special plans for today; I did get my last exam done last night, and have two more assignments for this week which I hope to complete today so I can get a head start on my papers; Friday is the last day.

I had planned to mail my packages for the troops then go to Jasper today, but didn't feel like baking; with the storm that just started, it's probably just as well - I'd like to enjoy the drive with the changing leaves.  Meanwhile a unit asked for some exercise equipment, so I had the perfect excuse to get rid of the exercise ball that I don't use, and the kettle bell which I've never used...although I really do need to get around to using my Gazelle.

Snicks, I have to shampoo the dining room rug as well.  I love my fur children, but this sort of thing gets really old...

Jean, take care of yourself - take high doses of D3 - it builds up the immune system.

LindaL, do you have an Edible Arrangements place near you?  They're really nice and always a hit.

Good to "see" you again, twinny. Glad you had a good trip.

Well, lunch is almost ready; have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Susan, thanks for starting the thread today.  I get days like yours, no pep in my step.  Grocery shopping (which I don't enjoy) and laundry (which I do enjoy) are accomplishments so don't sell yourself short :-)

I really wish we could have decent looking emoticons/emoties/ emojies - whatever they are called, on this forum.

Jean, nothing says welcome back to school like strep or the flu.  When my nieces were little (they are now in their 30's) I remember one of their viruses that barely slowed them down could knock an adult on their fanny.  I guess we know why the class needed a substitute yesterday - the primary teacher is probably sick as a dog from the little ones.

I sincerely hope you are able to ****** it in the bud before it gets worse.

I'm glad that you like your TSV earrings and hope the new SG piece lives up to your expectations.

Linda L, how nice that the firehouse hosts a breakfast for the community.  I don't know about a device that rattles around a person when the smoke alarm goes off.  I guess it's a good idea, however I could see me setting if off unexpectedly then falling out of the bed thinking someone broke in.  I hope the Harvest party was fun today.  I will continue to pray for Colin's recovery.

Regarding florists.  I called a local one to have flowers delivered to my very ill co-worker a couple of weeks ago.  We discussed some arrangements on the phone and I said, you know Michael, it's not like this arrangement is going cross country where I will never see it.  I lied and said, I will see it when I visit my friend.  If it doesn't look like the picture on the website, I'm going to be disappointed. If I am disappointed, I will need to visit you personally since I know where you are located and I happen to work downtown.  If I visit you personally, odds are very high that I am going to make your head hurt.  So Michael, do you want your head to hurt this week?  He said, no ma'am.  (You would have to understand that he was having the hardest time finding the arrangement that was featured on the website and I was losing confidence).  Anyway, Ruth received the arrangement and was bowled over.  It was perfect and I called Michael to express my appreciation.

Snicks, We got rain last night too and it's been a drippy kind of day.  I hope your dog's payback is now complete ;-)

Arlene, are you out in the boonies?  They have you on a timer when they are helping you?  Who in the heck is your ISP.  We all know AT&T is not my favorite company on the planet and even they don't have as many outages (did I spell that correctly)?

Twinny, I am so sorry that your mom took a tumble.  When you get the time to update us, just know I am interested in how your trip went and how mom is doing.

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

I  have had a hectic day with mom at the hospital.  Mom fell in her kitchen on Tuesday.  DD called us on Weds. at our motel in IN & said she was taken by ambulance to the ER.  She also fell again on Weds. & was found by a neighbor.  They said that her blood count was very low & she is very anemic.  She got a blood transfusion on Weds. night while my brother was with her.  DH & I had a wonderful vacation.    More about that when I get a minute to post again.  DH & I went to the hospital yesterday afternoon after returning home & she was very confused about where she was etc.  My brother & I were with her all afternoon speaking with nurses. pt specialist etc.  They all agreed that she cannot go home & be alone as she is too weak to walk etc.  DH & I will be checking her out of our local hosp. tomorrow & taking her for rehab in a specialized care home.  She will be there at least two weeks depending how she does with pt & oc therapies.  They said that she would have fallen 4 times going down the hallway today & they are afraid she will fall again & break a hip or worse.  She wanted care at home, but I told the nurse that as aoon as she thinks she is better she stops all of her home care workers.  I have been down this road too many times already.  Prayers for us as we take things one day at a time.   I am sad today as her 95th birthday is tomorrow & we are still planning a party for her on Ocrtober 17th.  I need to go to her home tonight & get clothes for her at her "new" home.  You gals are so good about ideas, maybe you can give me some hints on what to do first.  I am doing the best that I can, but still feel like I fail big time.  My brother will be up on Sunday, so I will take the day off before a busy Monday.  Hugs to all of you.

Re: Shopaholics -ODAT October 9th

Twinny--I am so sorry that your mother is in this condition and decisions must be made just at a time you wanted to make her birthday special. I think it is normal to feel bad about this but this is one of those things beyond your control. The first thing you have to realize is that you are not well yourself and that you have to take care of yourself as much as you might want to help your mother. At this point, your mother apparently needs assisted care in a facility and not at home. Sometimes, love means making the decision to do what is best for mother as well as for yourself. I have no wise advice except to first take care of yourself and then seek the best care for your mother. Hugs!!!
