Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

We are supossed to get some spring like weather here for the next couple days (in the 60's), can't wait.  I really want to open some windows and let some fresh air in.  I have a list of things to work on in the house today, I just need to get off my duff and get moving.  Easier said then done.

No TSV for me today, can't even imagine a swim suit right now.    Last night we watched the last episode of Downton Abbey, it was a very good series, and I am glad they ended ot on a high note and did not run it into the ground.  I am also glad it is over because that is one more thing I will not be sitting and watching on tv.  DH and I have too many series we started watching and now we are hooked.  I am hoping they start to end some of them because they have run them into the ground.  I told DH if they do not get better I could quit watching them after this season.

Okay, so much for my boring life.

Bernie -  How was the party yesterday?

Linda -  Hope you got a good nights sleep.

Well, off to get started on my exciting day.  Have a good morning everyone.

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Good morning all, and thanks to @Palady1, for starting us off. We too are to have nice Spring like weather this week, today very nice, but rain and thunderstorms for most of the week, so I want to get outside at least for part of today to enjoy it before the rains come. No TSV for me today either. I have not gotten involved in all those series everyone talks about, don't know why not. But, I have been watching "The Voice" like a maniac each of it's seasons. I also like "Blacklist". I am so looking forward to DST starting this coming weekend, I love having more daylight in the evenings. Just seems more relaxing somehow (I know that makes no sense, lol). We had a busy weekend, for us, so I am a bit tired this morning, but I do need to get myself moving also. Hope everyone has a nice day. Waves.....

Snicks - A lot of the time I will see a commercial for a new series and think -  I'll just watch the first one -  And so it begins....  I did that with the series -  Lost, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Deadliest Catch and Gold Rush - So you see how the madness began.  Enjoy your day outside before it rains.

WelI have a couple things crossed off my to do list with many more not crossed off.  Time to get busy.

Have a good morning everyone.

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Good Morning!  Thanks for getting us started, Susan.  Like you, I enjoyed the last episode of Downton Abbey, and that it went off at a high note.  I'll miss it, but I sort of agree with you about series going downhill after a while.  I have not watched a ton of series, thank goodness, but I have streamed several from Netflix -- sometimes to excess.

Glad you are having nice weather.  It is cooler here, but still nice.  No TSV for me either.  While I can imagine swimming (since I have gone swimming a few times already this year), I am not sure about the style of the suit.  Also, I really need to try on swimsuits before purchase.  Not easy to find something I like, but I have several suits which I purchased at local discount stores.

I didn't sleep all that well last night, but not all due to DH.  He did get up a few times, and at one point told me he was cold.  I set the alarm a bit earlier today since it is getting light earlier.  I have trouble sleeping after sunrise, and wearing a sleep mask bothers me.  I am afraid I'm a pretty light sleeper.

Hope you have a productive day despite your busy weekend, snicks.  Enjoy your spring-like weather even though you will be having storms.

After seeing the storms in CA, I sent an e-mail to DH's DD who went to the mountains of CA with her family this weekend. She said they did not have phone service, but did have e-mail.  Anyway, they had quite a bit of snow where they were, and people staying at the lodge or wherever they are staying, had to be escorted out of the park by park rangers when they were leaving yesterday.  And, a tree blocked the road for several hours.  I hope they can get out okay today -- her husband has a four-wheel drive car, which may help.

DH's caregiver came this morning -- she had the flu as did a friend of hers who works at a care facility.  She tried to go to the doctor, but they said she would need to wait for several weeks, so she went to urgent care, and got the special flu medicine.  It worked quite well for her, and she wasn't coughing or anything today.

I'm waiting for a call back from the hospice nurse since DH is out of his sleeping medicine again.  This is the third Monday in a row that we have had that problem.  Not good.

Nothing special planned here.  I am pretty happy in my cleaning/trashing/recycling efforts the past couple of days.  Hope that I continue doing that today.

Waves to Jean (working today), Kathleen (enjoying your DD's return to Texas), Arlene, Bernie, spix, twinny (thinking of you), Marijane, LindaR, Barbara, Charlene, Rosa, Gayle, Karen, pinky ann, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Hello Ladies, looks like everyone is having a nice warm week ahead.....we will be too although it is still chilly this morning.

Too bad they can't give you a larger supple of sleeping pills for your DH LindaL.  I also enjoyed the Downton ending....I think the last few ones were a bit drawn out though.  That one is the only series I watch...I started watching the one after Downton but couldn't get into it....I can't even remember the name....something Street,     yOu had mentioned th IM 25/7 pants and I am the one who also likes them....I did buy 2 pairs of them on Friday although they are not "ankle" pants on me...they fit just perfect as regular length pants and I don't have to have them altered...anything longer than 30" I do.

Not much else going on..I had made a big pot of spaghetti sauce over the weekend so tonight will make chicken Parma......that's about exciting my day gets!

Twinny I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers today...take care of yourself.

Spix had asked about corn beef the other day...I gotmine this morning....the store finally received a supply of the Nathan's...Which is the only kind we like.

Have a nice day everyone.....Marijane

Marijane -  The show you are referring to, is it called Mercy Street?  DH and have been watching it, I have been enjoyng that show, but I like shows that reference that time.  I love the clothing from that time, not that I wpuld have enjoyed wearing them.

Linda - Sorry you did not sleep well last night.

Off to do another constructive thing here, my list is getting shorter for today.

Have a good afternoon.

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

[ Edited ]

Hello all, we are experiencing a warming trend this week too.  I think today will be near 60 degrees and tomorrow could be as warm as 70 degrees.  If I heard it correctly on the newsradio station this morning, it will be spring like all week, then go back to the 40's this weekend.

I attended my great niece's party yesterday.  Short of the birthday girl (5 years old) and one other little girl asking me to go down the big slide with them a couple of times, my eldest niece has outgrown her need to play with her great aunt.  It's completely natural and as it should be :-)

My second great niece is 4 1/2 years old.  She was interested in climbing the obstacle course portion of the double slide inflatable but was not interested in going down the slide itself.  This is the inflatable I am referring to:

These are not from my party - just online.

Anyway, there is a rule at the Pump it Up place that you must go with the flow.  In other words, if you climb up the obstacle course, you have to go down the slide, not climb down the obstacle course.

My 4 1/2 year old niece was not interested in going down the slide and I don't believe in forcing a child to do something they fear.  Her father (my niece's husband) told me, she needs to go down that slide to get over her fear.  I said, well I won't be forcing her.  She is a baby and her fear is real.

I was off playing with other kids and later I learned that my nephew in law, dragged my niece up the obstacle course and dropped her down the slide.

Okay, I never carried any children so maybe my point of view is skewed somehow.

I don't understand why in the hell someone would do this do his daughter.  It was a 2 hour birthday part with an hour of vigorous play and another hour of lunch, cake and presents.  What purpose did it serve to traumatize my great niece?

Honestly, for me, it started as something fun and carefree.  Seeing my great niece (that was flung down the slide) subdued and quiet near the end, frankly made me want to slap the cr*p out of her parents.

I don't understand it - not one bit.

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Bernie sorry about the not so great birthday party for your niece....the poor kid will wind up being afraid of heights....when they are ready to do things whatever it may be they will.  Last year we were at a b'day party for my GS at one of those places.....he was 7 and his whole class was there......after it was over, only a 2 hr party also...Imneeded a drink.....I hear he will be having another in April in a different"bigger" place.  I wonder what happened to the few games played ....some ice cream and cake at the house and out they go when my kids were small......now they have to be entertained all the time .

Susan yes that was the name of the show Mercy Street....I did watch the 1st two shows but never bothered again....is that a series that will end this season or come back like Downton for a few years......I guess that will depend on now popular it is.  I think the reason I never got into it was because I usually fell asleep during it!,  I know I can probably catch it on other PBS channels during the week....we have 3 different stations  that run the shows.... but just never bothered.

I had to go look at the s/v today..I get an email but I guess I must have deleted it before looking....I have bought several bathing suits at Lands End over the years and like them...may cost a little more but they fit me great and last.

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Thanx @PAlady for the start off, I love to do lists, feels so good to cross something out is that weird?

@Genny1, I'm on waitlist for the IM tsv pants, got the tall so hopefully they're like regular, don't do ankle pants

@LindaLatte, sorry about DH's meds, don't understand the reasoning behind that, makes for more stress in your life.

@Snicks1, as I age I find the change of time takes me longer to adjust, used to be with baby feedings, & the dogs also, now it's me

@Bird mama, the scenario you described was upsetting, I raised 4 & we never ever did anything like that, years ago my father told me he was thrown into Lake Michigan so he'd learn to swim, but this was by other kids not parents, it did work but I'd be scared to death.  Hopefully your great niece will not suffer because of it.

Hope you all have a good day, we're also warming up, had a little rain earlier but more to come, so they say.  Almost went for a car wash, went shopping first, came out & it was raining, so no car wash, hope it pours tomorrow as I park outside at the airport, my car really needs it

BTW skunk is still there

Re: Shopaholics - ODAT March 7th

Okay, call me a tattle tale, lol.  I called my eldest sister (niece's mother, great niece's grandmother) and talked to her about the party and the slide incident.  I figure, she's around her kids and grandkids more than me.  My sister is diplomatic and knows how to approach the subject.
