I'm in the midst of a great book, so it is now Kindle time. Then I will get all my electronics charged just in case.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Friday

After having two days of cold but sunshine we are now getting a small warmup through tomorrow. Today is cloudy & we got a dusting of snow but no ice. They say it will be on the cold side for the rest of the month. January had record hi temps, so it all evens out in the end.

My infusion went well this morning & I had a nice lunch at the clinic. DH had his lunch in the clinic cafeteria so we didn't need to make a lunch stop.

I had another rough day yesterday when I took mom to the eye specialist. Her eye is no better & he suggested she get another injection. He said if she doesn't get the injection, he can guarantee the eye will worsen. It is so bad that the only thing worse would be to go totally blind. She is so stubborn about using a cane let alone a walker or wheelchair service to get her to her appt. station. If she doesn't choose to get the injection she needs to go back in 6 weeks. I told the Dr. that we will be gone in less than a month & she said she didn't need help getting there etc. He told her right out that she needed to get the injection while we are close to help her if it is needed.

Then she needed to go to 2 banks which is a struggle for me to handle her. At the last bank she got a bad nose bleed so that made things much worse. Her walking is very poor & she is getting more frail all the time. She keeps telling me that she hasn't fallen so she doesn't know why I get upset with her. She is just so hard for me to manage with my physical problems. When I got home several hours later I was crying & told my husband I was ready to go on vacation either last night or today. She doesn't act like that with him.

I did read the posts from yesterday & today but don't have the energy to reply to all of you today. I need to sleep off the gamma gard & hope that tomorrow will be a better day for me.

FHG, I no longer do mom's eye drops. She is down to 3 drops twice a day ( 2 drops in one eye & 1 drop in the other eye) & wants no assistance in anything right now.

pinky ann, I hope you are feeling better today.

To all of you in the cold areas, I hope you stay warm & don't lose power.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Friday

Hi Ladies! Sorry so many of you are dealing with very cold weather and possible power outages and storms. DD said it was brutal where they live, and she wasn't sure whether they would be able to go out for dinner to celebrate their anniversary today or not. Fingers crossed that they can. And, they are expecting a snow storm tomorrow, which may well complicate getting DGS to his Army Reserve weekend (nearly 50 miles each way). DD isn't a snow driver, so it is fortunate that my SIL seems to do okay in the snow. Still, it could be quite a dangerous drive.

Waves to Susan -- yikes about your temperatures, Jean -- glad that the top fits well and do stay safe, Kathleen -- great about your DD having so much fun in New York, Marijane, Charlene, Barbara, twinny, Arlene, Gayle, pinky ann, LindaR, Rosa, Karen, and all of our posters and readers.

My "classes" were very good yesterday, as was the travel club meeting this morning. The presentation was about a trip to Cuba one of the couples took last Fall. After that meeting, I headed out to pick up some groceries (took longer than expected, but....) And, then I came home and took a quick look at my e-mail. Turned out that my lawyer had sent an authorization form that I needed to print out, sign and have notarized, and mail back (or go to their offices 40 miles away to sign.) I raced out to have the document notarized and to the Post Office before 1:00 (when our mail is picked up). Whew -- that was a bit stressful.

DH and I are about to take a walk, and I'll go to Curves later.

Hope everyone has a nice evening, stays safe, and sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Friday

Hi girls! I'm vegetating today - it's cold out, and it's finally gotten to where both weather apps that I use agree on the forecast: a wintry mix is predicted for tonight and into tomorrow, and there's a storm advisory out. The dogs had me up early to go out, then Autumn didn't want to come back in - there apparently was something in the yard next door that fascinated her. She and Honeybun are driving me crazy, with both wanting to go out periodically; they go out for a few seconds, then want to come back inside. I was just reading on Drudge that several places have set all-time record lows, one of them being Washington DC, which is surprising - I'd have thought all that hot air would keep things downright warm! {#emotions_dlg.devil2}

I did end up going out last night, first to Walmart where I needed to pick up more of the pain cream...and that ended up costing me over $50....you know how it goes! {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} I was surprised at the things that were sold out, such as confectioners' sugar. From there I went to the new Italian restaurant that opened a few months ago and had chicken parmigiana, which was excellent. Now I think I'm in for the rest of the weekend.

Anyway, I've been napping a lot today and having bizarre dreams, often about Hawaii; right now I have a pizza in the oven, and have to work up some enthusiasm to take an exam. I have books waiting for me at the post office, but there are plenty others here to keep me entertained until I can go get them - it's supposed to be considerably warmer next week.

Jean, The Russian Tea Room is indeed still open and celebrating its 88th anniversary. I used to have a neighbor who was a bartender there, and he made out very, very well. Not surprising, given their prices.

Twinny, I feel so badly for you. Would moving into assisted living be a viable option for your mother? I can't see how she can live by herself with such poor eyesight, and it's certainly difficult for you - you have problems of your own.

Susan, I think you and I should both just give up on our "junk rooms" - the longest I've been able to keep mine neat and tidy was about three days! {#emotions_dlg.laugh} I've figured it out: it's the special magnets in the floor of certain rooms that attract things from all over the house.

Pizza calls - have a blessed day, everyone!

Marijane I grew up in Iowa. I think the rope around me was just a precautionary thing - or maybe just for fun. I just remember since we were out in the country someone had to go make sure the animals were all taken care of, and that they had water.

FHG, Mom is so against leaving her own home. She does get MOW' s 5 days a week. I would like her to have help come in for an hour or so each morning, but she thinks that she can do everything by herself. She has a nice gal come in for an hour each Saturday morning. DH & I would be more than happy to help her, but she won't let us do anything. She goes down the basement to wash which doesn't make any sense. I had a wonderful nap this afternoon.

Glad you had a nice nap twinny. So sorry about your Mom. Hang in there and feel free to vent. We may not be able to help, but hope our cyber hugs and prayers make things better for you.

Re: Shopaholics ODAT - Friday

Went to Bible study last night. As I was almost home--saw my neighbor had hit a water line---water everywhere. Today there was a SWAT standoff very near to my house!.

We are expecting a big drop in temps beginning tomorrow. Then another hit about Thursday of next week.

LL, thanks for your kind words. After doing eye drops vigorously for several months & just getting our lives back to normal, it is starting all over again. Linda R, it sounds like you live in an exciting area.
