SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1)

Hi Everyone!

It's sunny and cool today. The "big storm" isn't going to arrive until Thursday or Friday. Our relatives out West sent some pictures of how deep the snow is on their farm. It's sure is something to see.

I just read that Dan and Carolyn have been let go from the Q. I'll miss them both especially Carolyn. She taught me so much about dogs and gardening and Dan taught me about tools. You never have too much information about those subjests.

The hubby helped me out yesterday and picked up his prescription and a few groceries. Those frozen burriots that he likes have gone from $3.99 to 6.29 a package. Triscuits were $4.99/box, ice cream bars $5.99 a box. Instant ice tea mix (flavored) $7.49 and Crest mouthwash was $5.00. UGH!!!

I need to take a detailed inventory of what I have in the pantry and update the major inventory list in the kitchen. I kept thinking I was out of sugar ($3.99) and now I have 3 bags. One of these months I'll get it all on together. LOL

Today I hope to switch the front door and porch decorations to something for Spring and maybe put a few items around the entry and living room. The tax guy and I have been having trouble getting our froms from his computer to my inbox. Hopefully whatever the problem is will be handled by tonight . I really want that all to be settled and filed away for this year.

This month is getting booked a little heavy with doctor appointments and boiler checkups, etc. I prefer to spread those checkups throughout the months but everyone seems to be tight on availability.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1)

Looks like we started a thread at around the same time.

I'll delete mine.  This is what I posted:

Hello all, I just read in 'Q Talk' that Carolyn Gracie and Dan Hughes separated from QVC and that Shannon Smith separated from HSN.  There is a large thread about Quarate Retail Group layoffs.

I can't explain it, the news about Dan and Carolyn hit me hard.  This is probably because Dan and Carolyn sold me quite a few things over the years.  I actually talked to Dan Hughes once in an on air testimonial about Little Giant ladders Woman Very Happy

I received my first JCP order of the blue/yellow tee, yellow sandles and wide legged jeans this morning. Winner-Winner.  I ordered a tall ladies cardigan on clearance plus a pair of Eastland loafers the other day.  I keep a cardigan on the back of the kitchen chair and like to have a spare.

Right now I'm waiting for the call from my lawn mower technician letting me know he's on the way with my mower.  He called me a little while ago to let me know he was washing the machine down.

I caught bits and pieces of a couple of old Hoarders episodes on TV last night.  Time to take another run at the garage addition Woman Very Happy  My husband 'collected' an abundance of stuff and I cleared out most of it the summer of 2018 after I retired.  There were a few old tool chests full of weird old tools that I put aside because going through this man's life and his grandparent's lives (he had lots from them) was overwhelming and I'd had enough.

I can be more objective now.

How are you doing today?

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1)

Good Evening and thanks for getting us started Fressa and Bernie.  Like both of you, I will miss Carolyn and Dan.  I think they were two good hosts, and some of those hosts still at the Q are not nearly in their league in my opinion.  Hope both of them will find their post-Q lives rewarding.

It has been very windy and cool here today, and we have a winter weather advisory until 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.  This has certainly been unusual weather for this area.  Hopefully, it will warm up and the wind will die down next week.

Hope the weather will be okay where you live.

I had a class about candles today, and it was very interesting.  The "study group leader" has been making candles for years (not his "day job" at all), and provided both historical and practical information.  According to projections, the candle market is supposed to grow quite a bit at least in the next 10 years.

I stopped by the hospice office to do a few clerical jobs, and I agreed to take on another patient.  I will visit her next Monday afternoon.  Hope that works out.

Against my better judgement, I went grocery shopping, and found some items at reasonable prices, but most were higher than the past week.

Hope you get your tax stuff settled soon, Fressa.  Much to my shock, my State tax refund made it to the bank today -- one week!

Glad you are happy with your JCP purchases, Bernie.  Hope your lawnmower is back, and good luck with your decluttering.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1)

Birdmama---I agree--it's a shock about Carolyn and Dan. The corporation just hired all those "new" hosts (some of which really need more training IMO) so why hire if you're already behind in sales? Sad to say that I've seen this same thing at businesses here. We both were bit with this same line of thinking. Short sided thinking especially when prices are so high on every item regardless if it's a top or a dozen eggs.  That's my rant for today.

I'm glad all your purchases arrived and were a thumbs up. Hope you have your lawnmower returned and ready for the season. We had some heavy wind storms last night. Today the weather is all over the scale and tomorrow is predicted to bring the "storm".

I started to hang Spring/Easter wreaths and displays yesterday. I didn't want to be "the house" on the street that had the Valentine heart on the front door while the snow was falling.LOL We still had our Christmas tree up because the kids were traveling, sick and flying to Germany for a funeral. We finally had most of them together this weekend. Our grandson is returning to Germany later in the month with his fiance for the burial service of her grandmother. Today I'm finally taking down the "big" tree and the living room decorations. So far behind but the kids were pleased that the tree was still up for them.

LindaLatte---Hope your additional Hospice patient works out for you.  Candle making is interesting and time consuming. I really enjoy the flameless candles and Slatkin real candles. I won't be surprised if people use more of both of them with the utility rate hikes.

I just read a notice posted on our township website that there will be an additional fee for the EMS service for eash household  in addtion to the other funds. Not enought residents were contributing to any of them and even with purchasing used equipment they are in the red.

I'm still working on the receipt of the tax info "snag".  So odd but I'm determined to get it resolved today. Such a frustration (especially with filing early).

I see that they had Terri Conn in place of Dan this morning. So sad.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Glad your family liked your belated Christmas celebration, Fressa.  I have not put out any spring or Easter decorations yet, but I will probably do so soon.  Sorry about the extra charges in your township and the tax snafu.  I checked my Federal return, and it is still at the first stage (received and under review).  I really don't understand why the State was so fast with the refund, but I am not complaining.

It is sad about Carolyn and Dan.  I know quite a few are being laid off in various industries, but that doesn't make it any better. I can't say (as some have) that their departures will make me any less likely to purchase here, but I don't buy that much in any case.  Also, I do not watch that much of the on-air programming.  I think I was particularly surprised about Carolyn since I had just seen her on TV and had no clue that this was about to happen.  Guessing she didn't either.

Our weather has been absolutely crazy this winter.  Yesterday was so windy, and then rain was falling yesterday evening.  I woke up to snow covering the yard, mailbox, etc., etc., and rain falling.  The hospice volunteer coordinator and one of my friends who lives north of here had five inches of snow -- in March!  Now it is up to 35 degrees and mostly cloudy with a high of 50 degrees expected later today.  DD told me that it is 80 degrees or so in SC.

I plan to go to the gym and do hospice deliveries later today.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice day.

Hugs,

Linda
