SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

Good Morning! I know Jean is working today -- hope it goes well. Also hope twinny had a nice birthday celebration yesterday.

Nothing exciting going on here. DH and I made it to the gym and a walk yesterday, and today I plan to go for a walk with DH and Curves.

I woke up with a bad dream last night -- I am pretty sure it started with reading a request for prayers for a grandson on a thread here. I did take the time to pray for this lady's grandson and for all those dealing with ill children, grandchildren, etc.

This morning, my internet connection didn't work, but after calling the cable company and following their automated instructions, I got my connection back -- thank goodness.

While I didn't do major de-cluttering yesterday, I did manage to clean out a few drawers in the kitchen, and I found another donation candidate from my closet. After reading some of your posts, I think it is time to look at my shoe collection again. It is smaller, but I know there are shoes I never wear. No need to provide them room in the closet, and maybe some are good enough to donate. I used to have the habit of buying "backup" shoes if I found a pair I liked, and then I changed my mind and moved on. So, some of the pairs are barely or not used. I am making slow progress in this area.

Our weather is very nice today -- expecting sunny and warm (70's) temperatures. Hope any of you affected by the storm are doing better.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, Susan, Rosa, Lori, Marijane, LindaR, Karen, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda

Good morning!

Sunny and cold here. Pretty quiet so far. Enjoyed Zumba and having a quick sandwich with my friend.

I have an appt, for a cut and color Thursday or as I call it a dip and a clip!

Linda I am so gald you were able to get your internet connection back easily, that type of stuff is so frustrating for me.

No shopping for awhile till I get my new phone and replenish the checking acct from that.

Hello Ladies, cold day here, 12 degrees this morning but sunny. We had only gotten about 5 inches of snow after all that hype going on for days. My son up in Portland,Maine had 27 inches but he said it was light and fluffy and dug out his car in no time plus all the roads were clear this morning. Up there when a flake falls they have the plows out on the road to catch it! We are supposed to get snow Friday and another storm Sunday into Monday but so far are keeping quiet about the amounts.

Hope you had a great Birthday Twinny and the trip to the city you were going to.

LindaL we are lucky so far as everything works when we turn the computer on as the both of us have not an ounce of teck knowledge between us.!

Not much else going on, hope you are still enjoying your new job Kathleen. We are having problems again with a bathroom leaking upstairs...after getting a lot of ceiling replaced a few weeks ago down here. Funny thing is there are only the two of and we use the MBath R and the other 2 bathrooms up there have not been used in 3 weeks when everyone went home after the holidays......so today (again) the guys were here taking down part of the ceiling in the kitchen area to try and figure where the water is coming from! That's all my news......hope everyone has a nice day....Marijane

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

LL, My birthday yesterday was wonderful. We had fun going to a town that we hadn't been to for many years. We had a nice lunch at CB. The mall was very huge, so I mostly did the outlet store & a just few others. I am good for really only one store. Of course, when we parked & entered the mall, the outlet was on the other end of the mall. When we were all done, DH did go get our vehicle so I didn't have a long back to the exit. I was really tired when we got home lat night. I slept good for once, so that was a plus. We didn't buy anything except DH filled up the gas tank at $1.75 gal. It is $1.99 in our town today.

Rosa, Have fun with your new phone. I like the dip & clip thing.

DH had to go to the hearing center again this morning for a recheck of his new hearing aids. He is getting along better but still has trouble talking on the phone. Good thing he is not a "phone guy."

Not much exciting going on around here today. The weather is cool but nice. They say cold by next Monday. January has been wonderful. I am glad that February is a short month.

Dinner this evening will be chicken w/asparagus spears. I have a good recipe & haven't made this for a long time.

FHG, thanks for the birthday cake cartoon. I like the no calorie kind of cakes, plus we are on SF diets.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

Marijane, I am glad that you didn't get much snow. Our DS emailed us yesterday a.m. & said he didn't know how much they had so far but did say it was supposed to snow most of the day. They live just N. of Boston. He did say he wasn't going to work yesterday & his wife was on vacation all week. She works at Mass. Gen. Hosp. in the critical care unit. There was something on the TV Monday night saying that Mass. Gen. Hosp. gets about 60,000 patients per day. DS said his wife would have been staying in a motel next to the hosp. if she had been working. I hope they find the cause of the leak. Frustrating in the least.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

Hi girls!

It's bright and sunny here today, but cool. Since I'm still broke I have no plans to go anywhere, just stay in and do homework and some puttering around. I can't stand having no money! At least I can go to Publix on Friday evening and pay with a check, and they let you write up to an additional $25 over and above the purchase amount. They send their checks to the home office in Florida, which in this case probably won't be done until Monday, so it's always a few days before their checks clear.

Glad to hear you had a nice birthday, twinny, which reminds me - I have to see what freebies I still haven't used this month for mine.

Hope you get your leak fixed quickly, Marijane. I had a small "thingie" in my upstairs toilet suddenly break a couple of years ago, and ended up with a flood - the entire ceiling had to be redone, as well as the upstairs bathroom floors, and my washer and dryer were ruined as well. Thankfully, I have a very good insurance company. Thousands of dollars in damage from a part that cost under $51

LindaL, I have too many shoes as well - most never worn. My pastor in Hawaii was telling me his son makes over $1,000 a month going to yard sales and then selling things on Amazon, so I might think about listing things there.

Guess I should get up and moving; I need to go to the bathroom - badly - but three kitties are so comfy on me....

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

Linda--Thank you for starting the thread. Like you, I had no internet early this morning. I had to go and reboot my router, which cured it. Like you, I have a tendency, if I find a shoe that really works well for me, to go and buy a back up in the same style. I like to buy shoes, handbags, etc. I just like to buy new things but I'm learning to control how much is bought.

Rosa--I'm glad you enjoy your Zumba, as well as your new phone. Yes, sometimes, a significant purchase requires us to watch what else is spent.

Marijane--It is very good that you didn't get the heavier snow. So sorry that you are having a problem with the leaking bathroom. It is very expensive to tear down a ceiling to try to trace the problem.

Twinny--Happy Birthday! I'm glad that you have been able to get out and enjoy yourself. January is almost over and February is a shorter month. Our weather person said that February last year was worse than January. I remember our last snow was on St. Patrick's Day in March.

Arlene--It is so frustrating to know that your options for getting out are limited by the amount of money we have available. Many people on a fixed income have to live from paycheck to paycheck. I couldn't do some of the things I do if I didn't work after retirement.

I had a great day of subbing. I really enjoy getting out and working with people. It is so much more motivating than working around the house. I also work tomorrow.

This has been a very good month in that the only things purchased have been "needs." I have specialist appointments next Tuesday and Wednesday in the city, as they couldn't be scheduled on the same day. I consider that a nuisance, but I plan to reward the donation center with a bunch of goodies.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (WEDNESDAY, 1/28)

FHG, I had a nice lunch yesterday & I shared the birthday blackberry cobbler with my DH last night. We were to full to eat it at lunchtime. I tried to get to CB at noon as I was born at 12:00. I told the waitress that I was 25 minutes old. Jean, February is our coldest month too. You have done a great job in your purchases this month. I am glad you had a good day subbing.
