Good Afternoon/Evening! I know that Fressa posted on last week's thread today, but I decided the thread was getting a bit too long. Hope your weather is okay now, Fressa. We are having some pretty strong thunderstorms at the moment.
You and your DH certainly find lots of fun things to do, Glenda. Glad your DGD is keeping in touch and making such good progress. Sorry about the loss of friends/classmates/acquaintances. Never easy, regardless of age.
I was able to sleep pretty well last night, and the senior lunch program went okay today. My partner is dealing with back pain, and one of the participants (who does some volunteering) is suffering from Bell's Palsy. Not good news, but much better than the stroke that they had suspected. He was in pretty good spirits.
After a quick lunch, I went to help at a "spa day" hospice was sponsoring at an assisted living facility. I did my best, but it was not "right up my alley". The ladies who participated seemed to be happy, which was good. I left after an hour or so since I planned to go to the gym. But, the storm has me considering doing an exercise DVD instead. At least it didn't rain on my walk this morning.
I haven't heard anything about Walmart, but I will probably go there tomorrow.
DD told me that they found some issues with my DGD's corneas due to extreme dryness. The doctor prescribed a cream that he says will work with no problem, but a tiny tube cost $340. Yikes.
Waves to Fressa, Glenda, Bernie, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.
Have a nice evening everyone.
Hugs,
Linda

Linda L, we got a nice shower early this morning and a few sprinkles this afternoon. We are still in a drought, but anything is better than nothing. My dh hasn't mowed the lawn for a couple of weeks, but it is on his agenda. Sorry about your partners back ache and the participant with Bell's Palsy. Many years ago, one of my dh's brothers had it. He was quite young and fully recovered from it, but it took quite a while. There are a lot of things going on this time of the year as the weather is beautiful. 70's by day and 40-50's at night. I am sorry to hear about your dgd's dry eye. What a lot of $$$ for a small tube. I am going to be praying that it works for her. When my dh was going through his dermatology problems several months ago, a large tube was $85, but it worked wonders. I tell him that his face is as soft as a baby's bottom. Even the dermatologist said I did a good job!
Fressa, I use the plastic quart containers and not the glass jars. They fit perfect in the freezers.
I am anxious for my dh to get his stitches out tomorrow morning and my vision test later in the morning. Then it's "Pie Palooza Day." The residents get to vote on whom gets a pie in the face!
I have a lot of things to do this week, but company is always fun and we haven't seen them since last September.
It's our ds's 52nd birthday tomorrow. He & his dw are flying to England, France and I think the other one is Scotland for a week.
Hugs to all of you.
Glenda

LindaLatte--Glad to hear that the senior lunch program went well and you helpers. I don't know much about Bells Palsy . Years ago I worked with a security guard who had it. He was able to work a few more years before he retired.
What a nice event to have for hospice--spa day. Getting volunteers is always the big problem aroud here and I imagine everywhere.
Sorry to hear about yuor DGD's dry condition. Medications are out of this world in pricing weather you have 2 legs or 4. I swear it takes my breath away. I don't know to much about the dry eye because I have the opposite with my allergies. Hopefully the cream will do the job. Wishing her luck.

twinny70--Thanks for the tip about the L&L freezer storage for the tomatoes. I keep forgetting about the freezer safe option. Since the kids are grown I've down scaled my cooking (thank heavans--LOL) so I don't use the freezer option much.
Our son's 53rd Birthday was Monday. September and December are our busy months with birthdays and anniversaries.
England, France and Scotland. Those were on my list of places to see. Such great travel.

Linda @LindaLatte I think it's wonderful that the hospice sponsored a 'spa day'. I'm sure that you helped to make the patient's day at the event.

Hello all, I don't have much to report. It's cooled off here which makes me happy. It would be nice to get more than a couple of hours of sunshine before the clouds roll in but you can't have it all. My sister's dryer has been out of commission for most of the year; I just learned about this a couple of weeks ago. It runs but the drum doesn't turn so I suspect a broken belt. I ordered a new OEM belt for her dryer and have bookmarked a youtube video showing me how to replace it. My sister is not a DIYer so she thinks it doesn't sound hard. I have to remind her that it doesn't sound or look hard because you have a skilled repairman showing you how to do it on video ![]()
I told her that I would take a shot at fixing the dryer under one condition - she's not allowed to be in the basement with me when I'm working on it.![]()
I've never replaced a dryer belt before and when I work on a DIY project doing something for the first time, I have to have peace and quiet.

Birdmama--There was a period of time where I went thru dryer belts like crazy. I think it might have been the king size quilts or the throw rugs. Since I've replaced both of those with other choices we've been okay. The belt looked like a jumbo size fuzzy rubberband and was a "challenge" to fit it on the drum. It took a few tries. I think the hubby took some pictures of the drum wtih the old belt with his phone before he started. He watched a video on how to do it as well. He had that up on his ipad as he was working on the dryer.
Good luck.

Good Morning/Afternoon! Glad your weather has been better Glenda and Bernie. Ours has been better as well, and we had some rain again yesterday (not a lot, but....) Still could use cooler temperatures and more rain, but I am not complaining.
Belated Happy Birthday to your son, Glenda. Hope he and his wife have a great trip.
Hope your dryer belt replacement goes well, Bernie. I have had that done by a repair person, and it didn't take him very long. But, it cost quite a bit for him to come to the house on top of the price of the belt. Your sister is lucky to have your help. Glad your DH was able to replace the dryer belts, Fressa.
I made it to the grocery stores and Walmart yesterday. They certainly did a great job in getting things back in order. There were a few aisles that were missing much of the merchandise (like the candy aisle), but most were back to normal. I overheard one of the clerks telling a customer that they donated quite a bit of the merchandise that was still good enough for use, but not good enough for sale..
I also went to a hardware store to try to find a replacement bulb for a wall lamp in my Arizona room. The bulb they thought would fit fine did not. I went to another hardware store where I found a bulb that fit, but was a lower wattage. Finally decided to order some from Amazon. Oh well....
Late yesterday, I went to the gym, and all went well there.
I had a phone meeting with my financial advisor this morning. It turns out that I didn't get my portfolio review report that was sent by email while I was in England. I am speculating that I deleted it by mistake while I was there. She will be sending a new one to me.
She is a very impressive person -- wonderful volunteer work, etc., but today I learned something new -- she had joined the Marines right after high school and spent five years in Southern California with the Marines. I thought about your DGD, Glenda.
I saw on FB that Jean was able to donate quite a few clothes since she has lost so much weight lately. Imagine her wardrobe has shrunk as well, but she is pleased.
This afternoon I have my first OLLI class of the "semester" -- we are discussing the first twelve murder mysteries by Ngaio Marsh. Should be interesting.
Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Glenda, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.
Hope everyone has a nice evening.
Hugs,
Linda

I've decided to squeeze in one more home improvement project before the weather turns. My brick house is over 55 years old and the mortar has never been addressed. I do not have mortar that has chunked up and fallen out but I do have hairline cracks (all over) and a couple of bricks (particularly) on the garage addition that have split. I can see where my husband tried to do some things and I also tried to do some things - neither one of us knew what we were doing, lol.
It's gonna cost me $12,000 to take care of the whole shebang. All of the bad mortar will be replaced, about a dozen bricks will be replaced (thank God I have some since they don't make my bricks any more), my furnace chimney flue will be replaced (there's a huge crack in it that's visible from the backyard) and my porch steps are going to be reset. The connection between the porch and house will be cleaned out and resealed.
I know the flue on the top of the fireplace chimney isn't that great but I don't use the fireplace. As a matter of fact I'm thinking of disconnecting the gas fireplace and making it decorative. I don't know if this involves sealing it off or what. Since I don't know which way I'm gonna go I am not spending the money on the fireplace chimney at this time..
This is one of those home improvement things that kinda leaves you flat. You know it's good for the structural integrity of the house but it's not one of those things you look at and go wow - like new garage doors or windows or gutters, lol.
The guy told me that the furnace chimney settled over the years which is why a couple of bricks developed splits in them. Since rebuilding the furnace chimney on a two story house runs $12 K to $14 K and I said well we're going to focus on repairing the couple of split bricks and I'll start praying that I outlive the chimney (ha ha ha).
