SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny but very cool day for August. Just as long as there is no snow and ice, I am happy.

This morning, I turned on the Q and saw a C. Wonder item being presented and liked it....and it was on clearance. Never fear, it was sold out in my size and desired color. I had not seen it presented at any time, so I wondered how many good items I had missed. This suggests the power of the visual in selling an item. If I had needed it, perhpas I would have been searching the inventory to see what was available. Bottom line, it was a "want."

I received my Carolyn Pollack ring on the way to the orthopedic in the city. I put it on in the car and wore it.  The ring is most definitely a keeper. J350080.

I got a cortisone injection in my knee. The orthopedic approved of my exercise, just warning me to stop the minute I feel any pain. Today, I got in 40 minutes and plan another 20 before the end of the day. I need the exercise based upon the cardiologist's recommendation plus the reality that I have reached the point in age where it is me versus the metabolism and food.

It seems unreal that school has started. Summer goes by too quickly. Sometimes, I debate not subbing but I enjoy it too much.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Good Morning Jean @KonaKat

Wow, that ring is a looker - very pretty.   When it comes to exercise and fitness, depending on the doctor, everybody's got an opinion Woman Wink

I miss the days of a general practitioner or family doctor who treated you head to toe.  That one person knew what was wrong with you and factored in all of it for a recommendation.  Now we have one specialist who wants one thing and another who wants something else.  Grrr Woman Very Happy

It's pretty outside here, a bit cooler and little humidity.  I have this Friday off which will afford me time to get any shrub trimming and lawn mowing done before the next batch of rain.  Well, assuming the forecast doesn't change, lol.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Good Morning, and thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Hope the cortisone injection helps your knee.  My "work" buddy had a cortisone injection in her foot to help her planter fasclitis, which helped for a while, but the pain is back, unfortunately.

Interesting about your unusually cool weather.  Not the case here, but that is pretty normal.  It was fairly nice on my walk this morning (not too hot).  Glad your doctor gave you the go-ahead on exercising, and very proud of you with your exercising efforts.  The Fitbit has been very motivating for me as well.  Happy you like the ring.  Regarding the item you missed, I have found that with items -- didn't know that I even wanted something until it was presented.  I usually take that as a sign that I should not have purchased it.

Hi Bernie.  Interesting observation about doctors.  Fortunately, I haven't received contradictory advice from my specialists, but I miss my internist in Maryland who I had for 30 years.  I really counted on his advice.  Then, I moved and he retired.  Hope you have a nice day off on Friday, and you are able to do the work you have planned.

Sorry you were sick and unable to attend your Mom's birthday event, Charlene.  Hope you are fully recovered now.

I have the senior lunch program today, and then I'll go to the gym before visiting DH.  I was pretty confused yesterday when I went to visit him around 10:30 a.m., and found him in bed.  Very long story, but it turned out that he had been very shaky in the morning, and they fed him, gave him medicine, and put him back in bed.  A substitute hospice caregiver came, and she gave him a bed bath, etc.  He no longer has a rash or any sores, which is good.  His eyes were bothering him, but I put in his drops, and he was okay.  I'm trying not to worry. since it does no good

I'm starting to think about what clothing to take on my trip next month.  I looked up the average temperatures for where I'm going, and I think I'll feed the cold in some places.  Decisions, decision on the clothes.

Waves to all of our posters and readers, and have a good day!

Hugs,

Linda

[ Edited ]

Good morning friends!  Jean - glad that you like the ring - it looks like a happy ring to me, one that would put a smile on my face.  I have not yet received the Barbara Bixby pieces I ordered (the key pendant TSV and matching ring).  I have definitely not been getting my steps in lately.  Once I get over this current bout of heartburn (I'm okay but not 100%) I should be better about the exercise.  Though I must say, the heartburn has made me cut back on my eating!!!  Bernie - sorry if I made you feel like Imelda Marcos, lol!  It actually sounds like you have a very nice way of organizing and displaying your shoes.  Yours are probably much neater than mine.  I do kind-of envy women who have those large custom closets.  But...then it might just lead me to do more shopping...

Speaking of which, I just ordered a Denim & Co top A294088 in spruce green.  It's been on my wish list but I was waiting for a video to be posted.  My only hesitation with D&C is that the tops can run tight in the hip area for me.  Hope this one will fit.

My big outing of the day is a cleaning and check-up at the dentist.  I had way too much work done last year, so I hope things go well this time around.

Waves to all who follow ~  Charlene

Edited to add - We must have been posting at the same time Linda.  Hope your DH has a good day today.  Blessings!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Bernie--A friend and I were talking about our parents, both sets of whom had heart conditions. They were diagnosed and treated by an internist who was also my doctor before he retired. He was excellent and on tops of things. Now, it seems that one gets referred to specialists if a long term problem is sensed. Then there are sub-specialties so that if something is beyond the routine care of a specialist, then you get referred to a very specific specialist. In my case, I went from the primary to the cardiologist to the electrophysiologist (a cardiologist who specializes in rhythm disorders of the heart).

Linda--It sounds as if the caretakers are on top of taking care of DH. It is good that the rash is gone. Like you, my specialists have been in agreement and I miss my former primary doctor. I feel more like a number now than I do when I see a specialist. My former primary doctor took time when needed to answer questions, etc. I really prefer my specialists now compared to my current primary. Planning for your trip is almost as much fun as taking one.

Charlene--I can't wait to hear how you like the Bixby items, I have the ring on which the TSV pendant was based and like it very much. Enjoy your Denim &  Co. top. As far as indigestion is concerned, I  have gastric reflux and without the magic pill, I run the risk of anything I eat causing me to barf as the food item would irritate the esophagus causing it to spasm and the food going up instead of down to the stomach.

I didn't have time to drop the items off at the donation center yesterday as my appointment ran late. I'll try to find some more items and make a run to the city tomorrow to donate them, get some groceries and see what Kohls has to offer as I have a 30% off coupon. I've been known not to use them if there was nothing I needed at that time. I rarely get them when I need something.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Good morning friends!  Jean, good for you on the exercise.  I hope your knee is better. DH says that one of the wise men in his life told him a long time ago "the days that I get up and don't have pain are fewer and fewer" and we both understand these days.  I hope you enjoy your new ring too.

Bernie - what you said about everyone having an opinion on exercise gave me a giggle. Aint that the truth!? You sure love your shabooties - I just love to say that word. Smiley Very Happy Shoes make me happy!  I am looking forward to working again someday and dressing up a little.

Linda you do so well with the fitbit!  I haven't been able to get into a groove the past couple years. The lady that was snarky in your exercise class likely has no idea that you walk so much. I'm glad she didn't say anything more. You have to do things the way you are comfortable.

Charlene I'm sorry you've been under the weather - and hope you enjoy your BB items!

I'm busy doing all those little things I've put off 'around the house'. Mom will come out as soon as we get back from our trip, and I want everything to be perfect. Already looking forward to taking her to Pikes Place.

I haven't bought anything new in about 6 weeks - in fact I've really questioned all my purchases along the way.  I'm sure we have saved some money but Thursday I jumped in my car and the ignition switch said "nope". It takes a lot of discipline to get ahead. I'm grateful to have options today - remember when that would have been devastating ($1000 repair).

Some of you saw we picked blackberries on Sunday.  I still can't get over Kyanne grabbing one out of the bucket on the way home and setting it in her travel water bowl. She sure makes us giggle!  Bernie, how are all the birds?  And Charlene your menagerie?

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Hello again.  Happy to say that my check-up at the dentist went well.  Teeth are fine this time around.  Yipee!!!  Thanks for asking about the menagerie Kathleen.  Our goats are getting rather old, but are hanging in there.  Finnegan the kitten is finally starting to get over his respiratory infection.  He's both naughty and lovey-dovey.

Kathleen - good for you on making careful decisions regarding purchases.  Dave Ramsey the money expert said something that has always stuck with me.  He said that if something goes wrong (such as a bad ignition switch) and you have no emergency savings, then it's a catastrophe.  If you do have an emergency fund, then it's just an inconvenience.  Then he asked if you want to go through life having one catastrophe after another or just an occasional inconvenience.  It's definitely nice to have an emergency fund in place to handle those curves that life throws.

Jean - hope that your trip to the city tomorrow gets everything accomplished.  At the moment I only have 2 doctors I have to see; my general practitioner and my neurologist.  When I told my G.P. that I had Dystonia, her eyes got wide and she asked me if I was seeing a neurologist, because she had never had a patient with Dystonia, and didn't know anything about it.  Okie dokie, the neurologist it is.

meallen - thank you for the pretty graphic everyday.  Hope your day is going well!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, AUGUST 8)

Kathleen--It is so good to see you posting. Yes, I loved the blackberry pictures including that of Kyanne snitching the blackberry. My favorite, however, was that of her in the backseat eyeing you and DH as if she were chaperoning.

Tell DH that aches do come with age but the ortho told me after looking at the fresh x-rays that despite a knee issue that I had very little arthritis compared to most people my age.  I'm not going to say how old I am but next year will make 20 years since I retired early. The students often ask when I am going to retire again. I've been told by 3 doctors that I do not look or act my real age.

meallen--Thank you for the lovely graphic When I see you post, I often think of NJ as my brother lived near Toms River.

Charlene--It is good that your dental appointment went well. You have such a great relationship with your animals, and no doubt part of that led to a vet in the family. I know what dystonia is as it was eliminated for me before settling on another. Yes, I think relying upon your neurologist is a good idea. That doesn't mean your primary doesn't know what it is and the usual treatments but the neurologist is the specialist who has the experience.

I did get in an hour of exercise but I was operating at a slower pace today, getting in 7109 steps in 64 minutes. Right now, I'm watch Chicago Justice via Hulu.
