SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Good morning, shopping friends. We have been experiencing torrential rains which began with a big thunderclap that sounded like an explosion. Hopefully, this is passing quickly.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, and a great one to get out. I dropped $27 yesterday for the Outback which included a lunch plus a carryout I will have today as I was too full to eat it last night. The AARP discount saved me $4.50+. Every little bit saved helps.

Not working today, as the financial crunch is really hitting the system, In addition, because of the number of days we have been closed, the teachers know that to really catch students up and get them ready for the State tests that they can't miss too often. Professional leave requests for teachers to attend meetings related to their instructional content area, as that also involves sub money to replace them when at the meeting.

I did get some good news. I am two heart meds which has the potential effect of causing problems with the thyroid. I had to have a bunch of thyroid function tests run; the good news is that the cardiology office called and said the tests were normal.

I was to see my primary care doctor tomorrow but they called and rescheduled.

Twinny posted this on yesterday's thread:

Jean, Hope you are at school today. Our schools are starting 2 hours late because of the ice we had during the night. Last night I posted that yesterday I bought those two alfred Dunner tops for $4.97 & 4.44. Today while watching SG I saw something very similar for nearly $40 w/o shipping & tax. I did my happy dance! One top has a u neck (not low) and the other top has a v-neck (also not low). I will be able to wear them all spring/summer/fall as they have 3/4 length sleeves. They are light weight too so will be great for traveling.

Twinny, I also saw SG today but didn't buy anything. I think you made a tremendous purchase yesterday especially when compared to the SG offerings. Great choices that are cost effective!

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Good Morning! Thanks for getting us started Jean. Very happy about your medical news, but sorry about the lack of work today. The weather has been so bad this year in many areas of the country. I know that we are extremely lucky here. Glad you had a nice lunch and plenty for another meal.

Good deal Twinny! I have a lot of SG clothes and like some of the new items, but the prices continue to rise. In addition to the lack of need, the prices (including S&H) has really reduced my purchases -- not just for her line, but all of Q things.

I got an Amber Alert on my phone at 3:30 a.m. -- not close to my area, and I was pretty upset to have such a "wake up call" interrupt my sleep. Hope to figure out how to stop these notifications.

Yesterday I had my hair cut by a new stylist, and I'm pretty satisfied. I was really afraid I wouldn't like a different stylist since I was very happy with the other one who has been promoted to manager of a different shop. Later, we DH and I went to COSTCO, and I did a good job of sticking to my "needs" list.

DH had a restless night, and he is really struggling with his memory loss and anxiety. Hope that he feels better soon. I'm trying to make things as easy as possible for him, and praying a lot.

I made an appointment for an eye exam tomorrow (new doctor) -- hope that I like her. She spoke at the senior lunch program, and I was impressed with her.

Hope to make it to the gym today and I have "class" this afternoon. Nothing else to report.

Waves to Twinny, Kathleen, Sonya, Susan, Rosa, Marijane, LindaR, Nancy, Karen, Rosa, Gayle, Val, Kathy, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Linda--I am so sorry that DH continues to struggle with the memory loss; it is difficult for all but I know you are very supportive of him. Glad that the new stylist worked out well for you. Finding a good one at times can be very frustrating. I agree about the increased costs at QVC.

QVC is a convenience for me as I am a difficult person to fit for some reason and have difficulty in stores with finding my size in the style I like and the colors I like. I am not a teeny bopper so I refuse to wear inappropriate clothes for my age and frame. JCP used to have a great selection in my size range but it is now predominantly oriented toward the younger crowd. I hate going to the back of the store to find the limited fashions in my size. With the average American women's size being a 14, you would think a better selection would be available. Even Sears carries a better selection than JCP. Let me add even Walmart has a better selection than JCP the last time I looked.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

You are so right Jean. I went to JCP a few years ago and found a wonderful dress and large selection to choose from. The dress was for a wedding. Well, fast forward and another wedding, headed back to JCP and the selection had totally changed...and not close to what I found a few years ago.

I love finding those bargains too. I am also finding that as I get older, I tend to get sick of clothes quicker (I have no idea why) so finding a bargain takes the guilt away when making new purchases.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Good afternoon Ladies, thanks for starting Jean, It's nice to hear that your heart meds are not interfering with your thyroid function. I guess that is a problem with the different meds that are taken, they help one problem but can cause others. I think we get your weather a day late, is today is beautiful out almost 48 degrees and the snow is melting, yesterday we had a pile of rain with nowhere for it to go,and it got cold overnight so it was an ice skating rink this morning...we have about 2 feet of snow sitting on ground still....tomorrow we will be getting buckets of rain so I hope a lot of snow goes today. I don't think winter is over yet as they are saying it will be getting much colder next week and some snow.

Sounds like you had a nice day out yesterday Twinny and make out pretty well in your shopping. I saw you said March is your snowiest month where you are...they say where I am,CT.it's Feb. We have had double our usual amount already for the winter.

Sorry your DH had a restless night LindaL, hope it's better tonight. Good thoughts and prayers are going out for him and also you. I have been using my same hair stylist for about 13 years and would be lost without her. Hope your new eye Dr works out for you.

Not much going on here, guess I should enjoy the sunny day. Have a nice afternoon everyone. Marijane

PS Kathleen, have a nice weekend .hope you have great weather. What is it that you do on a' cattle 'ride''?

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Good afternoon.

Our JCP is almost empty, they stock a minimal amount of merchandise. The store looks pretty sad, I keep waiting to hear that it is closing.

Twinny, that is my kind of bargain. Happy dance{#emotions_dlg.tt1}

Egw, I also get tired of my clothes. I work 4 days a week and do some volunteer work on Fridays. My clothes seem to last forever, I do take care of them and I wear classic styles but sometimes I feel like I have worn the same stuff forever.

Linda-praying for you and your DH.{#emotions_dlg.wub}

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Jean, We are having rain/freezing rain today. Schools were starting 2 hours late today. Then they say 2"-3" of snow tonight and very windy tomorrow. That always means blowing & drifting. Glad you had a great meal at the Out Back. It is always nice to be able to bring a meal home for another day. Glad you had such good news at the clinic.

LL, We got an amber alert a few months ago. It was also in the middle of the night and not in our area. I never did hear what that was all about. Glad you liked your new stylist. I have had the same one for over 25 years and she is getting to be early 60's. I hope she stays for a long time yet too. Prayers for your DH. Also, good luck with your eye appt. tomorrow. My mom has MD so is under the care of a specialist about 22 miles from where we live. She goes for more shots next Tuesday. We have been taking her to this specialist for about 1 1/2 years and it seems like she will have to go for ever. They are valiantly trying to save what little eyesight that she has left. This afternoon I have an appt. with the insurance man. They are fighting about paying for the Phys. Ther. that I had over a year ago. This was brought on by a freak accident while going into a little boutique 17 months ago. It is lunch time now. Hugs to all other posters & readers.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

I forgot to add yesterday that the JCP that I bought the one top in is closing in a few months. Then DH & I went to Sears in the same mall and that store is closing sooner than the JCP Store. I usually don't have luck with these stores either, but for some reason yesterday was my lucky day. They always seem to carry so many Jr. sizes. I am beyond that by about 40 years!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

Gayle--I love finding bargains also. Right now, however, I am not hunting. I keep telling myself it is not a bargain if it is not needed. It is amazing how decline in income changes one's focus. Yes, new items really perk you up but I am trying to resist things. I keep thinking of that HVAC replacement cost, the appliance replacement and the foundation repair.

Marijane--I do hope that the weather change doesn't generate so much rain that it combned with your snowfall will cause flooding. Momma Nature is quite contrary right now. Yes, our temperatures today are very much not typical of this year; next week, it will be another story. I know you are experiencing similar weather also with unusual amounts of snow.

Rosa--When I heard that JCP was closing some stores, the first thing I did was to check to see if the one in the city I go often was closing. No, it wasn't on the list to my amazement. The lot there is not filled like it used to be and there are few people in there when you do a walk through. Some of the sales people went to Kohls to work and told me that the work environment at Kohls was much better.

Twinny--I think you were so right when you said March can be a bad month weather-wise for you; it is almost the end of February and you are having another significant snowfall. I remember having to attend a meeting in Minneapolis in February one year. I kept my fingers crossed that it wouldn't snow...and it didn't! That was my last visit to the Mall of America. I imagine it has changed since then. I remember going into the store the Q had there at that time. It is a challenge having to go so far for care by a specialist but that is the norm here as we go 60 to 75 miles minimum depending upon the city in the state.

It is time for my afternoon Kindle routine before tackling a chore.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY)

I got the bill for my MRI which cost a little over $1500 but after insurance, I only have to pay $25. I definitely can live with that.

Right now, I'm watching HGTV and going through paperwork. Midnight and I had quality time with the Kindle.
