SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, OCT. 29)

Good afternoon, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny but nippy day. I'm not working today but will tomorrow. That is acceptable as I didn't sleep last night because of leg pain. Had they called, however, I would have gone to work.

I decided I didn't need some extras I had on my phone/internet service which was part of a great promotion at the time I got them. The promotional period has expired and since I discovered I didn't use the extras that much, I decided to eliminate them and cut the bill. Every little bit helps.

I'm debating the TSV. I don't really need them but I am one of the few who apparently thinks they are cute. The fact the brand name is on the back doesn't phase me as I have noticed many brands are doing that. I have a pair of Lamos that I got two years ago and they have been great and still look good. For that reason, I don't really need these but some of the colors are appealing to me as in the red and the grey.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, OCT. 29)

Looks like three of us started our thread this morning.  This was my post --

Good Morning/Afternoon!

DH and I have taken our walk (slightly shorter and slower than normal), and all went well.  Who knows what happened on Tuesday?  I have my classes this afternoon (British history and mysteries), and our neighbor will be visiting with DH while I'm away.

I ended up buying the TSV yesterday for DD -- she makes cookies and candies for neighbors, teachers, etc. as little gifts, and this will make her life a little easier.  Also, I asked to be the recipient of one of the gifts.  LOL  Not bribery or anything.....

Thinking of you twinny -- I'm so glad you have your DH and your faith to help you deal with your Mom's issues.  I find myself doing a lot more praying these days, and I am keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, Arlene, Bernie, Karen, Barbara, Marijane, snicks, Susan, LindaR, Charlene, Rosa, pinky ann, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

I will be giving DH a shower soon, and later I'll be doing my "strong bones" workout at home.  Not as fun, but....

Need to confess to an impulse purchase yesterday -- I found a beautiful (to me) metal pumpkin at the grocery store -- half price, and suitable for the Fall (not just Halloween).  Not a need at all, but it brought such a smile to my face.  (I had seen it a couple of weeks ago, and "visited" it several times before buying.)

Please post if you have a chance, and have a nice day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Great Minds, lol.  This must be a record, three threads for one day :-)

This was my post:

Hello all, just taking a break to check out the new arrivals at the Q. The TSV Lamo's look like they'd be good house slippers for the winter.

What do you think?

Sorry about your leg pain, Jean.  Glad you are working tomorrow so you'll have a little more spending money for your trip.  Interesting about the internet/phone options.  I try to do the same thing with my internet/phone/cable options.  I think the price is way too high, but there don't seem many alternatives that work as well.  I know I'll need to contact them before the next "bump up" in price since I'm getting a "special price" that expires in January.

I took a defensive driving class on-line for my insurance company since they had raised my rates again.  The course cost $20, but it will save me money for the next three years.  And, the good part is that I learned quite a bit from the course.

Do any of you have dental insurance?  I am being offered the option to sign up during an "open season" period.  I am thinking of signing up since going to Mexico for dental work doesn't seen that practical with DH's issues.  The prices are not cheap, and there are deductibles/co-pays, but given the horrible price I paid for deep cleaning last spring, I may come out ahead of the game.  There are various companies involved, and I would like to know if any of you have had positive experiences with particular companies (Delta Dental, Met Life, Humana, etc.)  Thanks.

I think the Lamos look cute, but I don't normally wear that style of boot, and I don't need any boots.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, OCT. 29)

I have Humana dental. I am out of network so it doesn't pay as much as network. It does help. I sometimes have to pay some. Bigger ticket items like crowns have to pay more. Had to have periodontal surgery a few years ago. I am thinking the paid about half. That isn't an inexpensive treatment. If I went network I would have to travel to the city and they seem to change the providers frequently. I will pay the extra to stick with my provider I lnow. I went last time and had x Rays and the dentist does an oral exam. I had to pay I think 85. But still beats paying the total amount

I had the option to change plans. Didn't do so as the provider was one of the chains. Had heard bad reviews about over scheduling etc.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, OCT. 29)

Wow!! Three threads and I double checked before I posted mine and didn't see one.

All I can think of about working tomorrow is that the money will go for the new tire I had to get. The Tuesday job paid for the specialist co-pay, luncheon out with a friend, and goodies for trick or treat.

I also thought the TSV would make good house slippers for winter when one keeps the heat turned down. I thought about getting yesterday's TSV but quit watching and forgot about it. I thought it was a great deal.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, OCT. 29)

After waking up at 3:00 a.m. this morning & feeling like I had slept all night, I decided to try to do some catch up on my emails.  Then at 8:00 when I was in La La Land,  I heard my DH say "the phone is ringing."  It was mom's rehab facility telling me that she fell while trying to get back in bed after going to the bathroom.  They said thaat she didn't hurt anything & her mental state was the same.  For whatever that is worth right now.  Maybe this is the wake up call for her to realize that she needs lots of help if & when she gets to go home.  I was planning to have a restful afternoon, but now I will get her mail & see what is up with her.  JEAN, It is probably good for you to have a rest up day before your vacation.  Having less unused options for your internet is a wise choice too as every little bit helps.  We had a little rain yesterday & again this morning, but now it is clearing up to what they say will be a nice sunny tomorrow.  LINDA L, Good for you on taking that defensive driving course & saving $$$ on your insurance.  I have seen quite a few metal pumpkins & they are all so cute.  I am glad that your morning walk today went well.    BIRD MAMA, Those slippers look wonderful for when winter really decides to kick in.    LINDA R, We no longer have any dental insurance but my DH's medical plan called last night to see if he wanted that along with vision insurance.  He is happy without either of them. Hugs to all of you.

Twinny--I am so sorry about your mother falling. Let us hope and pray that it is the wake up call she needs to make her realize that she cannot live independently. Hopefully, you can get some needed rest soon.

LindaL--I've taken those defensive driving courses in the past. This year, it was held over 50 miles from me on a day I had an appointment in the opposite direction so I didn't indulge. If the metal pumpkin brought a smile to your face, then it is a great purchase. Enjoy!!

I really liked that Dennis Basso faux leather jacket. It may come home to me. It has been two years since I've indulged in a DB item.

Twinny, if you don't know by now, I hate medical facilities period.  Acute care hospital, long term acute care hospitals, rehab hospitals, etc.

It's been my experience that facilities are not diligent when it comes to making sure a patient has access to help getting in and out of bed.

That said, the fact that your beloved Mother is having trouble staying upright and keeping her balance at the rehab facility, is not going to bode well for her case to come home.

I continue to pray for her as I know she will be heart broken if she cannot come home.

I continue to pray for you because I know she is more likely than not to strike out at you or blame you.

From what I've read here she is a high fall risk.  At this point, the reason for it (body/mind decline or stubborn and won't use walker or cane) is neither here nor there.  My fear for you is that she will fall at home, hit her head, and you will discover her in a way that will scar you for the rest of your days.
