SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JUNE 7)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny day, one to enable us to get out and about to do a variety of things based upon our needs. I hope it is similar in your area.

I didn't sleep well last night simply because I got hooked on a book and couldn't put it down. I went to sleep around Midnight but awakened around 5am and couldn't go back to sleep.

I wasn't in the mood but I talked myself into going to the Senior Center where I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I came home and rested and then went out and applied weed killer to one area. The excessive rain we have had has been kind to the weeds so they have flourished.

I see that my Lug Cable Car I ordered when I didn't quite like the mini-puddle jumper is on its way to me. The funny thing is that yesterday I could still cancel the order. The other oddity  is that when ordering, it could not ship to my PO Box. That is no big deal, but guess where UPS is going to deliver the bag--The Post Office.

After lunch, I will go out and attempt to murder some more weeds with the weed killer. I had to quit decluttering for a period of time as I was sick of it and knew the outside needed attention.

Out of curiosity yesterday, I looked at the end of year activity statements for the card I use most and pay in full. I had never really paid attention to the graphics of the statement, but yesterday I discovered that June is the highest month of spendinng on that card. I would have thought late Fall or around Christmas. This gives added incentive to watch spending this month. I saved those statements as I want to see what I was indulging in so much in June. I do know that according to the breakdown for each year, I have cut back on restaurant spending to the tune of about $300 for last year. I am afraid to look at the shopping category.

I do think the TSV is nice but I'm not ordering. I have too much jewelry right now.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JUNE 7)

Good Morning and thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Sorry about your lack of sleep, but good for you with your workout at the senior center.  I plan to go to the gym a little later today.  Despite not having any grass, I do get plenty of weeds.  But, due to the lack of moisture, they are manageable by just pulling now.  I know in a little while, they will be flourishing.  I should probably do some spraying before the fact.  It doesn't work all that well for me, but I will try.

No TSV for me for more than one reason.  I do like it, but the necklaces look pretty thin/small to me, even when combined.  I have decided that I want larger pieces.  However, the big reason I'm not ordering is due to a total lack of need, and better resistance for jewelry than clothing, shoes, or bags.

I could have gone swimming yesterday afternoon, but I decided to do some cleaning/organizing instead.  I found a pair of slippers to toss (lack of use), and a pair of clogs may go as well.  I re-arranged my bags -- boy do I have way too many bags.  One of those may go as well.  I also cleaned out my refrigerator, and it looks so much better.  I actually finished that job this morning after my walk.  It wasn't too hot when I was walking, but it was getting warm by the end so I was glad that I started early.

This afternoon I have a caregivers meeting, and then I will visit DH.  Fingers crossed that he is much more awake today.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Have a nice day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. For those of you who have devices without keyboards, how do you deal with all the fingerprints on the screen.  My laptop is in the process of being replaced, and these fingerprints on my tablet are driving me crazy.

Linda--Good job on discovering items to leave the house. I hope to get back to doing that but those weeds were calling out to me to do something. I have had weedkiller that works and some that doesn't. I just hope these darling weeds soak up the weed killer and transmit it to the roots.

On the issue of fingerprints on tablets, I use a small microfiber towel I have set aside for that purpose.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JUNE 7)

Hi everyone - do we have 2 threads going today?  Maybe I'll post the same thing on both, lol.  Good to catch up with everybody.

Bernie - Yesterday I was also at the optometrist, getting an exam and ordering a replacement contact lens.  I paid an extra $20 to have an exam done on my retinas.  The Dr. said that I have the retinas of a 30 year old, which is unusual for someone who's been near-sighted for 5 decades.  I had to laugh, because that must make my retinas the only youthful thing on my body!!!  BTW - I agree with the price of frames being outrageous.

Yesterday afternoon I met a friend at Starbucks, and then in the evening I attended the second-to-the-last meeting of Financial Peace University.  This is the second time I've taken the course, and I've had a good time with the people.  It was relatively cool early in the morning so I worked in the yard turning compost.  I consider that something like going to the gym - it's a good whole-body workout.  Now I am working on dusting and organizing another section of the library.  It's slow but I don't mind it too much, since I like books.  I even have 11 books in the discard pile.

I also returned a Carolyn Pollack pendant that I had ordered.  It was rather bent, and for $200, that was not acceptable.  If I had adored it, I would have wanted a replacement, but requested a refund instead.  On the other hand - I love the Earth sandals that I bought a few weeks ago, and I like the Josie Maran body butter set that was a TSV.  I think I'll get a lot of use out of the sandals and body butter.  I'm a little undecided about a gold pendant that I received.  I like it very much, but it's pretty expensive.  Hmm...Will think about that for a while.  I do feel better about the $200 return helping to pay for the gold pendant though.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JUNE 7)

How I didn't see today's thread established is beyond me Woman LOL

Here's what I posted:

Hello all,  it's a lovely sunny day in my part of the country and it finally warmed up enough for me to open my windows and not worry about my birds getting chilled.

I finally received my insurance card for the dental and vision COBRA so I went to the optical center that I had visited previously to look at glasses a second time.  I took my prescription with me.

I wasn't too sure about the size of the glasses that I originally looked at.  I also had a problem with the mark up on the frame price.  I just couldn't get past $280 for plastic frames (no lenses).

I had a couple of designs picked out (from internet browsing) and tried those on.  This time around I avoided the girl who was pushing the $$$ frames.  I was happy that the optician who's been in the field over 20 years (I checked out the staff at the optometrist's office website) came to assist me.

She said the glasses the first girl gave me were too small.  It wasn't the lens size that was the issue, it was the frame size.  Kind of like the TSV glasses I returned recently where the frame ends (where the arms connect) jutted out too far.

She brought me a pair of bolder eyeglasses and I fell in love.  They are offered in 2 colors and I bought them in brown/tortoise and black/plum.  Today would have been Prince's 60th, so I think I awoke with purple on my brain, lol.

When it was said and done - two pairs of glasses and $248 out of my pocket.  Now that I could handle, lol.

Charlene--I read your post and saw the comment about two threads. The more the merrier, but there was none started when I started mine in late morning. Sorry the Carolyn Pollack pendant was bent but that is unacceptable. I hope you requested CS to not charge you for the return postage. Give yourself some time to debate the other item, and if it feels like a winner, then perhaps you will be happy with it. Just apply the principles of the Financial Peace University. I'm glad you are satisfied with the JM body butters. I have a jar of it sitting here but it is one of those super large ones. I also have the WEN body treatment in a big jar so I didn't order the JM TSV.

About the TSV, when I logged in and checked the home page, I thought they were selling a rosary, lol.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JUNE 7)

Bernie--Glad you got frames you like. Sometimes, they look so different once the lens are put in. Yes, the cost of frames can get out of hand. I hope when I get new glasses, they will let me use the frames I have as I really like them.

I spent the afternoon resting and reading after applying more weed killer and working on the garage. So far, it doesn't look like the weed killer is working. I should have gotten Roundup as it has always worked but this brand name was on sale.
