SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

Good morning, shopping friends I'm watching Susan Graver but have no urge to buy anything at this point. This month has been an outstanding month for not making purchases. We will see how long that lasts!

Right now, I'm exhausted. I've been clearning under the beds which requires me to get down. 12 years ago, I had a back injury that resulted in me having difficulties getting up from a floor or a seated position without support to push on and leverage this body up.  As a result. when I do this type of work, it really does me in.

I admire those "Suzy Homemakers" who seem to be able to accomplish all types of household activities in a day and then be able to prepare a full eveing meal, etc. I jut am not one of those but if I accomplish my goals for the day which are set with my limitations, then I am satisfied. I learned some time ago not to measure myself according to what others consifder the appropriate goals. Trying to measure what you do based upon others expectations which are not realitic for you can only lead to a feeling being defeated.

When I used the Mia2 this morning. I thoiught of how long I had resisted getting one of them. It is a purchase I did ot regret. At the same time, I thought of Bernie and wondered how she liked hers once she also broke over and purchased one.

Time will tell if I do much more today as right now, I really don't feel the greatest. Perhaps, I'll get back to more fun housework, etc. in the afternoon but right now.. a cup of coffee and some rest sounds good. I feel tired nearly all the time recently and wonder if it is a side effect of recovery from all those procedures, as well as that new med. Of course, the fact I'm getting older may also play a role.

Congrats to Kathleen on the new job. You may have mixed feelings about it right now as you used the word "just" in the job description. Focus upon the good things about it as well as other good things that are transpiring.

Have a great day. If you shop. shop wisely.

i am going to a cash only purchase program for a while.  The only thing I use my cc card for id gas.,I have done this in the past and it makes me ver aware of my spending.,

i have my my post infusion headache so am not doing a lot today.

Thanks Jean. I'm ok with "just" lol, i can already see that i am being a blessing to a dedicated and overworked couple. But especially grateful with your words of wisdom regarding what we can and can't do. You older ladies will laugh but i just told DH that I'm really feeling my age and that i just don't have energy that i used to. I was proud of myself for putting up 5 things last night. This morning made the bed in Kayla 's old room and checked that the bathroom was clean. My brother is coming in tonight and will probably spend the night with us.

Barbara i hope you feel better soon. I have friends raising GKids and don't know how they do it. Cash only is a good thing for me add it keeps me frugal. I don't like to spend my cash! Wanty has not been active lately but only one income does that. I want a pedi this weekend and need my hair done soon. Now i have lots of healthy food that's all i need for now.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

Barbara--I live in an area in which many grandparents have a job 24/7 of rearing their grandchildren for a variety of reasons. The older one gets it seems the less energy is available and some children can be very demanding. You are so correct that chores. etc. have to be limited to shorter periods of time. Take care! Infusion treatments, although necessary, are draining on the body's reserves.

Kathleen--Enjoy the visit. I am glad that you are a source of help to the people for whom you are working. Too many people use the word "just" when describing something they feel not totally acceptable or meeting expectations. It is good that you are okay with the word and don't use it in the context for which many people use it.

Cash only purchases? There is evidence that shows people who pay with cash buy less than if they used a card of any type. Personally, I don't carry much cash and haven't since someone lifted my wallet with $400 in it that I had just withdrawn to use. I can always call a card company el quicko and stop the charge on a stolen or misplaced card used by someone else, but cash is gone!! I never carry more than necessary and that is when I know I'm dealing with someone who will not take cards of any type.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

JEAN, Good job on your not buying this month. I didn't know that you had back issues 12 years ago. It is hard for me to get on my knees & then get up without assistance from DH or a nearby chair. I'm certainly no "suzy Homemaker either. I do everything bit by bit. Maybe your new meds are making you more tired. But, you have also been to lots of different Dr. things. RC, Yes one income's do make you think twice about wasting money. Enjoy your pedi & new haircut. Your new job is much more than "just" a position. It sounds like you are working with a nice couple that need your help. You have nothing to feel bad about what you can't get done right now. It has been a busy year with both you & DH changing jobs, moving & your DD's making different move this year too, I just learned that your one DD is in CO. Is that a permanent move? Where will younger DD be stationed at? I guess I need to catch up on things again. I am not an expert on lobster rolls like Marijane is, but what I have had consisted of lobster meat/mayo combo on some type of bun. SYDSGMA, Sorry about the headache from your latest infusion. We don't use our CC much either as we try to live with the money in our billfolds each week. Our GC are 10, 12 & 14 so we know how tired we are when they come, but they all add such a wonderful joy to our retirement years. Today I am being lazy as it has been hectic here for a couple of weeks. I did hang two loads of laundry out early today. I plan to take my mom shopping & probably to the bank this afternoon. Then it will be hot tub time to relax. BIRD MAMA, the weather is wonderful. The humidity left us Tuesday night & we are now in the low to mid 80's. No rain which we need, but the windows are open again.

Twinny--I know you are happy when your grandchildren visit. I'm not an expert in lobster rolls either but I am an expert in taking a rest. I feel as if I could almost go to sleep but I will hopefully restrict it just to Kindle time while resting in bed with Midnight cuddling up with me.

Jean, I must confess that I have had Kindle time all morning. I got up early to do the laundry & then decided today is my day to take it easy. I am taking mom shopping soon, That is sometimes a tiring job if I have to go to 3 or 4 different places. She likes to look at everything in the store while I am in & out as quick as possible. I have felt so good though since my last infusion, so I am singing my praises right now.

Twinny, older DD moved to CO on July 4 weekend after the big anniversary party. She hasn't found a job yet but has money to lady a while. Thankfully. Little DD heads to San Diego and will be at a naval hospital there fit at least a couple years. Yay fit some good weather! We have had a mild summer so far.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, JULY 30)

Good Morning/Afternoon! Thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Suzie Homemaker would never be a description of me, even when I was younger.  I enjoy cooking, but cleaning not so much.  And, I can very easily distract myself -- I really "need" to go on the internet, and then spend way too much time here.  Oh well, no one is perfect.  When I had my accident, and for quite a while after that, getting down on the floor was a major problem for me, or at least getting back up after I had been on the floor was an issue.  I still have some issues (dizziness) from time-to-time.  Not fun.  I hope that you do take it slow and easy with plenty of breaks.

You are doing a great job with your budget -- way to go.  I was thinking that Charlene's experience is similar to mine -- it is not so much a money/budget issue, but a space and clutter issue.  My latest "anti-sales" talk (to myself) is that if I buy something, I will need to get rid of something.  And, I don't have many things I want to get rid of.  In fact, I find that too often the new item disappoints, and I end up donating it rather than the older item.  Don't know if that makes sense, but....  I have a couple of pairs of sandals that are losing their bottoms, so I think a pair of black or dark blue sandals should be my next purchase.  It isn't difficult to get rid of broken things.

Sorry about your post-infusion headache, Barbara.  I have heard about using cash -- makes you more aware of your spending, etc., but like Jean, I don't carry much cash with me for fear of theft/loss.  I give myself a small weekly allowance ($20) which I use for things like dollar store purchases, snacks, the senior lunch, etc.

Glad you feel you are really helping the couple you are working for, Kathleen.  That has to be a very good feeling.  Hope your older DD finds a job and so does your DH.  I don't know about your DH, but I know men who feel very insecure if they aren't working, even if they don't have major financial concerns.  But, that may be an older generation.  Nice post for younger DD -- San Diego!

Hope shopping with your Mom goes okay, twinny.  Good idea to take it easy, especially when you have that job to do.  After my Dad died, I went to my Mom's house every Saturday and took her shopping, to the library, etc.  She didn't drive, and didn't live near public transportation.  I found it tiring, but she was very appreciative, which was nice.

Waves to Arlene (hope you can post today), Bernie, Marijane, Rosa, snicks, LindaR, Charlene (hope your kids are doing okay after their trip, and you are dong well), Karen, pinky ann, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

We had a nice walk this morning -- less bugs, but still plenty, and then I went to my strong bones workout.  I have an eye exam this afternoon, but nothing else of note to do.  I had ordered a new telephone (landline) from Amazon that came yesterday, and I spent some time setting it up.  It has many bells and whistles, so I will need to spend more time figuring out the features. My old phone kept cutting out, which was driving me crazy, so I felt a new phone was a "need".  That is my story and I'm sticking to it.  LOL

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda
