SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, APRIL 28)

Hi Everyone!

It's sunny, cloudy and cool today. It doesn't know which way it wants to go. No rain. Warmer temps are to arrive tomorrow so I hope to start gardens on Saturday. Believe it or not I received the tomato plants already that I ordered from Robertas and a set of lily bulbs.

I picked up one prescription yesterday. (thankfully...no change in price). I also did major grocery shopping. I needed something from every category. It's been two weeks so it was a bit longer than usual. The store still had a few specials on paper products, small canned goods and bread. Other items were increased similar to everywhere. I did splurge and buy the asparagus ($3.99/lb). Cauliflower was $5 a head instead of $7. I passed on that. Last time I shopped I stocked up on frozen veggies so I wasn't so tempted to splurge. Ground beef (on saled )$3.99/lb.for over 5 pound package. I purchase 1 because it wouldn't be on sale for at least 2 weeks. Cream creams was missing from the case. Cotton balls were $2.99/bag. I had to get cotton balls to clean the dogs ears. I think I was more shocked over the cotton balls than the ground beef.

I remember someone mentioned stocking up on medicine cabinet items and thought that was a good idea. I just needed an ace bandage ($9)($4 more than ususal) and a bottle of rubbing alchol.

LindaLatte--Sorry your friend's husband was having an awful day. It's a challenge for a care giver and you must have the patience of a saint. I still remember how difficlut it was on some days with my Mom. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the family can locate a facility sooner than later.

Birdmama---Hope your sinus problems ease up or at least the throbbing in your head. I see the signs that we are in for one heck of an allergy/sinus Spring. Even with all my medication I still have the raises, raspy voice and migraines that would bring down an elephant. Gotta love it.

I ordered a Sport Savvy set that was on clearance for our DIL for mother's day. The reviews said that it ran big so I'm hoping that's true. She likes her clothes to have a bit of room. I still have to make a trip to the card store so hopefully, that will be tomorrow.

I'm waiting for the Heating/AC to call me back about replacing the water heater and get an estimate for a generator. I'm sure the "sticker shock" will have me talking to myself. LOL

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Hey @Fressa   I was on fine the day after the headache.  Honestly all of this up and down temperature wise is just not natural.  I hope you are sitting down when you get the estimate for the water heater - it outta be against the law what they charge to install a new one these days.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, APRIL 28)

Good Evening and thanks for getting us started, Fressa.  Glad your prescription wasn't any more expensive.  As usual, I made up my grocery list after looking at the specials (digital coupons, etc.), and found the list was quite small.  Of course, I had done a Walmart pick-up yesterday, but the stores just didn't have many specials.  Like you, i stocked up on frozen vegetables and fruit since the fresh is just too pricey.  I splurged on asparagus a couple of weeks ago, but not today -- just carrots, tomatoes, bananas, and other boring stuff.

I hope the hot water heater estimate isn't too high, but I understand that prices have really gone through the roof on them.  Good luck on the generator estimate.

Glad you are better, Bernie.  I have used two of my at home COVID tests -- both negative.  I think the weather caused my sneezing and headaches.

I got some really good news, actually two pieces of good news.  My friend and her husbands children really liked the long term care place they visited, and they plan to move her husband there tomorrow.  She said it is like a luxury hotel.  She feels lucky, but realizes that the facility may not feel so lucky dealing with him.  But, they are professionals.  Fingers crossed it works out for them.

I heard from Barbara yesterday.  She had an infusion, and was dealing with dizziness and other symptoms (worse than normal).  The respite care place where her DH stayed was horrible (didn't monitor him well, didn't medicate properly, etc.)  But, the good news is that they have identified a group home in the area -- only 15 minutes away.  A hospice nurse that he had seen is at the facility, and he really liked her.  Plus his long term care insurance will pay for his stay.   I am unclear when he will be going there, but it sounds like a very good solution.

No word from Jean today, but I hope her tests went well -- I think she was having the ECHO today and getting a monitor.

After grocery shopping this morning, I stopped by the senior lunch program to drop off the banana breads.  I attempted to give one to the adult day care, but they are not allowed to have any homemade food at this time, so I left it for the people in the office.  Then, I went to a "newcomers" lunch, and happened to sit next to a lady who was celebrating her birthday.  We had talked before, and she is very nice.  Anyway, I asked if she and her DH liked banana bread, and when she said yes, I brought her the fourth loaf.  What luck.

Then, I went to the hospice office, and picked up and delivered the supplies.  Came home and assembled the mailings.  By the time I finished, the office was closed as was the Post Office, so I'll go tomorrow morning.  The good news there is that the volunteer coordinator didn't make any mistakes with the letters this week -- finally.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Birdmama---I talked to the water heater guy last night. He remembered our house so that was a good thing. He's to make a trip over here to view the furnace room, water  heater and plumbing and give us the estimate in the few days. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that we can have this done in a day. I just want it checked off the list for this year so I can stop worrying about it. All I can see are $000 after the price quote. I'll keep you posted once I recover from the "sticker shock".

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, APRIL 28)

It's so nice to read about what you are doing.

We had a good motel stay  on Tuesday night & breakfast the next day.  Then we headed down to my niece's home on Wednesday night.  The dc were both there so it was nice to see all of them.  They took us all to the Cracker Barrel for my dh's early birthday dinner.

My dh got his complimentary piece of cake and ice cream.  Now we are watching what we are eating.

We left on Thursday morning and did a bit of shopping at a mall in Paducah. I bought a very nice pair of Easy Street sandals.  We had a fabulous lunch at Patty's Settlement. We both had their famous pork chops and we both got a mini cherry cheesecake for his birthday/our wedding anniversary.  It was nice getting to aquiet campground on Thursday night.

Right now we are at McDonald's in Paris for a light lunch and then on to the BIG Fish Fry for dinner this evening.   Right now the Huge parade is going on which we aren't going to.   So far my dh is having a wonderful birthday.

I have no idea what we are doing after today.  Our weather is in the 70's & 80's, but I have an ugly feeling it will be hot when we get to Louisiana.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, APRIL 28)

Good to hear from you, Glenda.  Gad your DH is having a nice birthday.  Good luck with the weather.  Yesterday, they said that today will probably be one of the last days when our temperatures don't make it to 90 degrees and above.  I only wish that we could get some much needed rain.

Just contacted Jean -- her ECHO has been postponed until next Tuesday.  Needless to say, she is tired of waiting.

Today, DD's house is being inspected -- my SIL and DGS both went into work, but DD and DGD are busy driving around untilt he inspection is over.  The dogs are being groomed.  Hopefully, all will go well.  She having trouble finding some needed items in the storage room -- placed there by the guys with no easy way to locate what they need.  Oh well.

@Fressa   It's kind of a conspiracy.  They have to check the pipes because of course codes change by like a few eighths of an inch so naturally you need new pipes.  I think codes people are in cahoots with plumbers, rofl.  My pipes were brought up to code in 2011.  Nothing is wrong with my water heater however when I was paying an arm and leg for a plumber to replace the gas shut off when I installed my cooktop in 2020 I asked the rates for installing a new water heater.  I think he quoted 1,700 right about the time he was relighting the pilot light on my water heater.  I said dude, be careful with my water heater when you do that, it was working fine before you shut off the gas and I don't want to buy a new one.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, APRIL 28)

Birdmama---The guy I talked to was more interested in the type of pipe I had---pvc or copper. I said we had all copper. I think I'll have an "issue" if they want to replace all of that system with PVC. The story I got is this is the only one that handles boiler systems and anything that connects to them. Seems like I should have chosen welding & plumbing as a career instead of buisness. My eyeballs are already spinning over it.
