SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Good Morning and Happy Birthday to Val! My DGD's birthday was yesterday, and she seemed happy. Her Mom took her shopping, and she got several tops.

Today, I have two "classes" in the afternoon (British history and British mysteries), and I plan to go to Curves and maybe a walk this morning. I have dinner (salsa chicken) the crockpot, since I won't get home unitl late.

It is a beautiful day here -- cool now, but headed to the upper 70's or even 80 degrees and sunny today. They were saying that our "snow birds" or winter visitors are very happy with the weather today.

What are the rest of you up to today? I hope things go better for you Kathleen. Change (new jobs, etc.), and be upsetting. I am glad you felt better after going out for dinner, and hope you have a good visit with DD and your dog this weekend.

Waves to Jean, Arlene (glad you are back on the computer and the cake turned out well), twinny, Susan, Gayle, Rosa, Marijane, LindaR, Karen, pinky ann, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Linda--Thank you for starting the thread. You are having a very busy day as usual. I do think moving agrees with you active lifestyle.

Marijane--You have been deluged with the nasty weather. The pictures posted on FB were a wee bit depressing but beautiful at the same time. Glad you had an easy time at the DMV. Happy birthday to DD.

Val--Happy Birthday. I think I must have missed that on FB and for that, I apologize. I do hope you had a wonderful day.

Twinny--I do hope your mom's appointments went well. This has been a long struggle, so I know any improvement will be appreciated.

Pinky--I also can't wait for Spring to get here. The cold and my joints do not get along well.

Kathleen--I do hope the job improves for you. Part of it is missing the people you knew, and a large part is cleaning up someone else's mess.

Gayle--It is always good to see you posting. Please do whenever you can if only to let us know how your day is going. You don't need to go on forever like I do.

Arlene--It is great that you had someone to fix the computer for you. I am sorry that all that work in preparing that fabulous cake left you in pain.

I'm home today because of school closure. The roads were covered with ice this morning. At first, they called for a two-hour delay but then it became evident that conditions would not improve sufficiently so they just closed.

The urologist office in the city called and said they had phoned in a prescription for me. At the same time, I updated my meds with them as the cardiologist had added another med. This is requiring me to double check pulse and blood pressure once a day. The tests the urologist has ordered is to determine if a kidney problem exists in some form and the procedure in March is to check out the bladder to see if there is some disease or structural problem creating a problem.

I have not bought anything for so long that it is now difficult for me to consider buying for "fun." It isn't the new shipping policy by the Q, etc.; I just don't have any desire at the moment to buy things. I would prefer to get all this medical stuff behind me. In the meantime, I have plenty of clothes, shoes and handbags.

Speaking of plenty of excess, I do have that big box loaded with goodies for donation which is in the trunk of the car. A similar box has been brought in. I hope to fill it before the next trip to the city.

Spring will be welcomed! Spring and Summer is the time I'm tempted to buy simply because I am out and about more and traveling at times. Today, I booked Midnight's "vacation" at the vet for the time I will be in Hawaii the last of April. The plane ticket for that trip was a free one with frequent flier miles.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Hello Everyone!

It's blustery and cold today, with much of the area that was plowed now pretty well filled in with snow. It seems to calm down a little, then picks right back up again. I fed the birds, but I'm not sure how much they actually got to before it got covered. I've just been vegging today, as the cold doesn't help chronic pain much. I watch the show, "My 600 lb. Life", and felt so bad for the girl that was on this episode. There was something about her that got to me, and they left her at a point not too far into her weight loss journey.

Linda, Thanks for starting the thread. Enjoy all of your activities today! I can see the snow birds loving your weather, as it would be just perfect to me!

Jean, I hope the tests are not too bad, and that they will answer any questions that may be pending. Do you do ok taking most meds? DS had a horrible time swallowing them when he was little, always had to be crushed into something. I hope your decluttering efforts enable you to fill your next box, and leave you with more space. We had a two hour delay at our schools, but they may have canceled at some point. I couldn't imagine kids waiting for a bus in all the mess outside.

Twinny, Good luck with your mom today. Hope you and DH have a nice time with whatever else you have planned.

Genny, I'll be heading for a license photo whenever my form gets back to me. I'm glad it's not a yearly thing. I love salmon, though DH doesn't share that love. I'll make it for myself, as it's so good, as well as good for us.

I'll have to go to the bank later, and don't look forward to it. Hope Kathleen is having a better day today, and will get used to all of the changes. They're all big ones, so will take some time to get used to. Hello to anyone posting later! I'll try to get back a bit later, pinky

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Pinky--I don't have any problems taking meds but do hate horse pills of vitamins, so I switched to the adult women's gummy vitamins. I also watched "My 600 lb. Life" last night as there two or three of them. The effect of environment and family on habits was driven home when the girl moved out of the home and into her aun'ts who was very supportive of her efforts. As a result, she was able to really lose well.

I noticed on the TSV that they gave the garment measurements for the regular size but for the petite, they did not with exception of garment length. When I checked the hip measurement of the TSV in the regular for a Size L, the garment measurement for a L was 40 inches. That critter would have to be doing some really big stretching to fit the typical size L.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

LL, It is nice that the snow birds have nice weather again. I am also glad that your DGD had a nice birthday & was able to do some fun shopping with her mom. I got gift cards from Kohl's, DSW & Vince's Italian Restaurant for my birthday last week. I don't know if I will shop before our vacation or when we get back home.

Jean, Sorry for the school closure again. Our weather is cold but sunny so the house feels cozy warm. I hope all of your tests & meds work out good for you. Your decluttering sounds very well done.

Marijane, Sounds like you have another icy mess. I am also glad that I don't have to go to the DMV often. I think I am good for another 3 or 4 years.

RC, I hope your job goes better. It is hard getting used to new people & different job procedures all at once.

pinky ann, we only had one blustery snowy day & that was Sunday. Monday the roads were very good & it was business as usual around here. The snow is beautiful right now.

DH & I took mom to get her lab work done this morning. She said she wants to take the cab for her appt. this afternoon. She is just seeing her GP. I did notice that her eye sight has not improved at all except she can see shadows in the distance. She had trouble seeing where she was going at the clinic & then when we all went to see our tax lady, she was high stepping & there was no curb to step over. She sees her eye specialist in a couple of weeks. We took her to the grocery store which wasn't too bad as she is familiar with the layout.

DH & I just plan to have a nice lunch at home & enjoy the hot tub. The sun feels so good today. It is supposed to be warmer by tomorrow. Tomorrow is grocery day & probably lunch out. I am trying to take it easy right now.

Happy birthday Val too.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Jean, I'm glad you're able to take your meds with no issue. I've tried, and like, the gummy vitamins too. The episode with "Amber", was the one that got to me. She moved back in with her parents, and her boyfriend lived there with them. She did move out on her own after she was making good progress. It amazes me how the families keep supplying all of the junk food. Many of these super overweight folks wouldn't be able to get it on their own. It can be such a sad show at times, and maddening at others, but I'm in for the season.

Twinny, Glad you've not been having this blustery weather. I wish your mom could get more of her vision back. Despite the setback, she seems very independent. I do admire her, and you and your DH for being there to help her.

I decided the back would wait until a calmer day. It's sunny, but that's not enough to encourage me to venture out. I think my new book is calling me. pinky

Hi Ladies...just wanted to "stop by" to say hi and thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We are heartbroken, as she was a wonderful mother and an even better grandmother.

Susan, I am sorry about your furbaby...I know how much that hurts, too.

I have been reading almost daily...just haven't felt up to posting.

Thanks again...Karen

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Twinny--It sounds as if your Mom is trying but the eyesight still is creating challenges for her and for you. The hot tub is a great way to relax the stress away and think of the upcoming trip.

Pinky--I've looked at some of those families on "My 600 lb. Life." I don't think I've seen the new shows, but many of the family members are obese themselves. It is very hard to lose weight so if those family members are not being supportive and joining in, then the outcome is not going to be a good one as long as the person wanting to lose the weight remains in that home.

Karen--Time brings acceptance but it does take time, and there is no set timelines for grieving. You have precious memories to treasure but the physical presence of your mother will be a void for a long time. Hugs!

I downloaded the two books I'm entitled to as a member of Kindle First. I get to keep these books despite them being introduced to the general public for a price. I have yet to join the "Kindle Unlimited" program but as much as I read, the $10 a month might be justified.

Off to Kindle land!! I'll check back later.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (THURSDAY, 2/5)

Hello everyone! Just wanted to thank you for the birthday wishes -- they really brightened my day. DH is taking me out to dinner and the we will stop by DD's and meet the kids and grandkids for pound cake and fruit. I'm going to hopefully find a dress to wear in my closet, if the moths haven't eaten them up!

Karen, good to see you posting. I know how difficult things must be for you after your mother's loss. For me, the hardest thing was reaching for the phone to call my mom, or just wishing she was still here so I could ask her something.
