SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Good morning, shopping friends. Someone needs to tell Momma Nature that it is too early for Winter temperatures. It was 25 degrees when I crawled out of my warm nest...and yes, some  snow flurries made their appearance yesterday.

QVC totally amazes me with its shipping schedule. Yesterday, I ordered the Berkshire comfy throws; they are already shipped. How does it determine what gets shipped first? I have another item ordered before the throw which has not shipped.

Yesterday, I thought I would go to the city today but the cold changed my mind. I have to get some winter jackets and coats down from storage. I'm not used to needing them until late November.

I've never ordered the Harry London chocolates but at $12 each these would make good inexpensive gifts for appreciation gifts for people at work.  I used to order the treat sized Mrs. Prindibles but haven't done that in some time as they discontinued that in favor of bigger and more elaborately prepared apples.

Now, that American Express has lost its credit card contract with Costco, I see that it has cemented a new contract with Sams. That is my trivia for the day but I discovered it when going to the website to pay my recent charges in full.

I guess part of today will be spent decluttering instead of going to the city to see "Bridge of Spies." Hopefully this coming weekend will be better.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

Jean - Thank you for starting us today, hope you get some decluttering done.   We had snow flurries yeasterday and this morning, I guess I need to get the heavier coats out also, I am just not ready for that yet.  Guess we have no choice, Mother Nature rules.  I alos ordered the TSV, I will use them as gifts this holiday season when we go to friend's houses for dinner.  Of course one is ours to eat.

LindaR - Are the fires under control near you yet?  I keep thinking about you and the furbabies.  Stay safe.

LindaL -  Hope everything is well with you and DH today.

Kathleen -  Glad you got to go "home" this weekend.

Well not much going on here today, I may just be lazy and go thru my piles of magazines since garbage pickup is tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great morning.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Good morning KK, and all who follow. Thanks for starting the thread. Wow, it is cold where you are. We are at about 40 degrees here now. It is hard to guess what will be shipped or when with QVC. It's a guessing game. Don't blame you for postponing your city trip in the cold today. Good luck decluttering and pulling out winter wear.

I am feeling much better today, don't know what the deal was with me yesterday, but felt really sick for just a few hours, then ok again. Weird. One of my granddaughters came over last night for a few hours, had a wonderful visit with her. Such a beautiful sweet young lady, senior in high school, 4.0 gpa, president of drama club, sec/treas of art club, works 2 jobs, a go getter. She is the one I thought would want my fall decor and she did, took almost all of it home with her. I only have one bag full left to donate. Hubby and I always go out to eat for Thanksgiving day, and granddaughter said last night that she wanted to go with us again this year, yea! Anyway, don't really know what I am doing today, but hubby has a 'honey do' list that he barely got started on yesterday, so most likely I will be helping with that, lol. Waves to everyone, have a great Sunday.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Good Morning Jean and thanks for starting the thread.  It was pretty chilly here too.  I'd swear I heard the words "lake effect snow" this morning as I was channel surfing.  I think residents north of me might have seen snowflakes.

I don't understand shipping from any stores anymore.  Two previous orders from JCP with free shipping, sat in a 'process' stage for nearly a week.  Yesterday, my order qualified for free shipping.  I was offered a priority type shipping for a reduced price of $4.95.  For the heck of it, I selected the priority shipping.  All of my items shipped out within hours.

I'm tempted by the TSV.  I think the tins that look like houses are charming.  I've read some positive and negative reviews about Harry London candy.  Given that the company suffered a terrible fire (last year I think), it's good to see it back in business.

Is Amex an unpopular card?  I tend to use my credit cards for online purchases.  On site purchases are either cash or debit card.

Susan, hmmm you ordered the TSV too.  Is the candy any good?  One thing I miss about kicking cable to the curb is the Hallmark channel.  I always appreciated the Jesse Stone movies.

Snicks,  I'm glad you are feeling better.  Sometimes the change in weather (summer to fall and winter to spring) can mess us up and make us feel funky.  I'm glad that you had a great visit with your granddaughter and that your fall decor is going to someone who will appreciate it.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Good morning Ladies.....cold here too,29 when I got up the sun is out bright.  I am seeing more leaves blowing off the trees, this year hasn't been great for colors.  Jean I went and looked at that poncho you mentioned and wound up ordering it I have never had one.  i have my cuddle duds pullover on nice and warm,I ordered 2 of them a few weeks ago and when they were delivered went and ordered two more...I think this will be my uniform till April.

Snicks how nice that your GD wants to go again with you and your DH for Thanksgiving dinner .  She sounds like a lovely young lady .

I think I will be just hanging around today myself Susan.and taking out more "winter" stuff.I don't think we will be in for any more warm weather till spring.

Arlene why don't you try calling LLBean customer service about the tear in the stitching in your slippers. They may tell you to send it up to them and they will fix it.  I remember years ago when we were living up in Me.my DD zipper broke on her jacket, which was a hand me down so had plenty of wear...I took it to them and they replaced it for free..by the time she outgrew the jacket it was pretty well worn except for the zipper!    I'd give it a try they are pretty good about pleasing their customers.

Not much else here, have a nice day everyone.....Marijane

We are in Lake Tahoe...this is a beautiful place...the lake is huge.  Tomorrow we head to Vegas and will go to my favorite casino off the strip..Red Rock.

i am looking forward to getting to our Phoenix home..The weather looks a little more moderate. My dd said it is cold in mn.

bernie..Amex is a card that  carries a hefty fee.  I have one but only use it for travel. My visa is my card of use.

I have done done a good job of not spending except for food on this trip. My gambling money I have saved and it is not a lot.

jean...your weather sounds chilly. Are you getting ready for Hawaii.

snicks glad you are feeling better.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

[ Edited ]

Barbara--The AMEX card I have carries no fee. I remember the old days when the slogan was "You can't leave home without one."  It isn't the best reward card I have and many places no longer accept it here; the gas station is the exception with more places in the city accepting it. I have a large credit line on it so I use it periodically to keep it active. Lake Tahoe is beautiful; enjoy!!

Susan--I got the TSV in the carosel version. At $12 each, I think it is a great treat fr exchange.  I've never tried Harry London chocolates; I have tried Godiva, etc. and wasn't thrilled with them for the price.  Thanks for the reminder about the Jesse Stone movie as I enjoy them. I checked the cable guide to make sure it was the Hallmark Channel and not the Hallmark Movie Channel. It is on from 9pm to 11pm on the Hallmark Channel.

Bernie--Since I live in a tri-state area, I often hear about "Lake Effect Snow" when the Cleveland area weather is discussed.  What is amazing about shipping is that Priority shipping which is more expensive often arrives only a day earlier or about same time. There is one business which says shipping time is no different but what you are paying extra for in Priority shipping is moving your order up to be prepared first in line for shipping.

Snicks--Good luck on supervising or helping with the "honey do" list. I am glad that you are feeling better and that you had a great visit with your granddaughter. I can tell that you are very proud of her.

Marijane--I talked myself out of that poncho. I see that it is about $2.50 higher today than when it was at the OTO price. I have never had a poncho either but I talked myself out of it as I have a Marvelush item I bought from "As Is" last year. It was a great item but I rarely used it so I decided I wouldn't use this. I like to cuddle up at home in my Hanes sweats.

I see Progresso Light soup in my future for lunch. I did finish the book and have started another one, so Midnight and I will be cuddling for a couple of hours after lunch. Afterwards, I will need to do some more things.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, OCT. 18)

Lo and behold an ad for Harry London chocolates popped up on Facebook as sold at JCPenny. The individual size of the QVC collection is: Approximate tin measurements: Classic Storybook 7"H x 3-3/8"W x 6"L; Carousel 6-1/2"H x 6"W x 6-1/4"D; Village House 8-1/2"H x 5"W x 6-1/2"D

Compare that to the JCPenny version of $30 for one:

  • individually wrapped
  • tin container
  • 4½x3x8"H
