SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Good morning, shopping friends. Today is a rainy day. My new car is now two months old. I haven't bought any non-essentials since February 7. Think there is a relationship?

I successfully resisted buying the TSV yesterday as well as another Q product being promoted. I don't think today's kitchen programming will be tempting me. Where is the room for all those gadgets, most of which would be rarely used? What I have, I use frequently and really have no need for more gadgets.

I am totally aware, however, that many enjoy several hours of kitchen programming. For those of us who do not enjoy extended programming of any type, there are other options and I exerise them. Right now, it is streaming from Netflix. I can always do an item review.

The fact that I have gone this long without buying a "want" is a major accomoplishment for me as I enjoy shopping. Despite the fact that browsing or window shopping online sites can lead to temptation and buying, I am resisting. I may indulge in April for my birthday.

In the meantime, I ask myself these questions: If I had not seen the item, would I have already been thinking about buying it. Can I delay the purchase? Is there a financial benefit to buying now compare to later. Do I have anything like it? Is there an emotional reason for driving the reason for purchase? Is there a better place I can use the money? Right now, there is a better place I can use the money.

I have about an hour before I down a bottle of grape-flavored magnesium citrate, followed 3 hours later by 4 Dulcolax tablets. Suffice it to say, this is not one of my favorite days and I will be happy when tomorrow is over. This is a small price to pay to see if the cancer has returned or not to the bladder and kidneys. Since this is the full detailed exam, I will be put out.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Have a great day

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

Jean -  Thank you for starting us today, I do not envy what you have to do today, I wish you the best of luck.  We are having a rainy day here also, we could use the rain,we really did not have a lot of snow this year, so moisture is needed.  I am not complaining about little snow, as long as we get rain.

Good job on the no purchasing, I have been terrible about it.  I have come to the conclusion I do no purchases times like I do diets.  If I say I can not have something, I go over board in having it.  If I say I will think about it first, I find I will eat or buy less.  Of course I said no purchases in February for March, I won't even tell you how much I bought the first week of this month.  Lesson learned.

So not much going on here today, I need to do some decluttering, my sister is having a yard sale this spring, I have one box started for it, I need to add more to the box.  Off ro do something constructive, have a good morning everyone.

Susan--Total deprivation with favorite food, shopping, or any area tends to backfire. I'll be indulging at some point and it will be soon. I t hink the ideal thing is to establish a limit on amount or number of "want" purchases. Right now,

I have a bunch of medical expenses as well as the car which I want to offset. This year, they double the amount I have to pay the primary physicials and specialists. Those $40 paid to the specialists have really mounted up....and one specialist is one not normally seen and hopefully I won't be seeing again after March. Visits to that one alone since January have totalled $200. I just think of what I could have bought for the total of that one as well as the others. Gr-r-r-r!

I think as long as you are seeing improvement in the total picture that you are doing fine.  There are times in which we buy more than expected but also times that we compensate by periods of little spending.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Good morning ladies, thanks to @KonaKat, for starting this morning. Don't envy you today, such a "thing" to have to do to prepare for the needed tests. Wishing you a great outcome to it all. I, also, do not need any more kitchen wares, no more room at the inn, haha. I do cook, daily, but going into the season when I cook fast and easy. I do more elaborate meals in fall and winter. I spend spring and summer working in the yard, and am usually worn out by the time to make dinner, so it's going to be something quick. My shopping in the upcoming weeks will be wedding gifts for one of my granddaughters, and plants for my yard, so that alone will assausge my shopping urges.

@PAlady, it's very wet here also, guess it rained again overnight, still foggy and damp. I need to get busy again today, just finished changing batteries in all the clocks and resetting them. I usually do that on the night before the time changes, but not this year. Have fun getting things together for your sisters yard sale.

I had such a migraine headache yesterday that I actually laid back down in bed about noon for a couple hours. I never go back to bed, so that was unusual for me to do. I still had somewhat of a headache when I went to bed last night, but not as bad. It seems to be gone today. Hopefully I will get somehting accomplished today. Waves to everyone.....

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Hello all,

Jean I wish you a favorable outcome for tomorrow's procedure.

I went grocery shopping and drove the old Camaro in the rain as she was getting a little dusty in the garage.  I thought about putting my Versa in the driveway when I came home a little while ago.  Then it hit me that it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll park the car on the top level of the garage at work and she can get rinsed off that way, lol.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Hope you have good results from your procedure tomorrow.  I definitely do not envy you going through the preparation, but I guess it is necessary.  Good job in resisting shopping temptation.  I have no need for additional kitchen equipment, dishes, etc.  Doubt that I'll be purchasing anything today.  I think I'll avoid going to the grocery store as well -- I go for the specials, but end up with too much extra stuff.

Hi Susan-- good luck with your de-cluttering.  Yesterday, I found one thing to donate in anticipation of receiving my eBay purchases.  I also found several men's shirts to donate.  I will probably donate a pair of capris as well, but I want to try them on one more time before doing so.

So sorry about your migraine, snicks.  I really hate migraines, which used to be a huge problem for me.  Knock on wood, I have not had a migraine for the last few years.  I did have a regular headache last week, but one Al took care of it.

Too bad you are having unneeded rain, spix.  We could used some here in the desert.  Not that I like rainy days that much, but droughts are a problem..

Hope your natural car wash works, Bernie.

Waves to Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, Marijane, LindaR, Barbara, Charlene, Rosa, Karen, Gayle, Karen, pinky ann, and all of our posters and readers.

Not the best of mornings for DH -- created messes for me, and he is very sleepy.  Hopefully, he will be okay at the gym.  I made some Irish soda bread yesterday evening, and I'm looking forward to eating it.  I may take some into the "club" on Tuesday.  Not sure about that.  The nurse gave me a lemon pie recipe to try, and I may make that today or tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, MAR. 13)

Hi girls!  It's another overcast day with thunderstorms in the forecast, so I probably won't be going anywhere.  I do have one more homework assignment that's due tonight; maybe if I finish it early enough I'll take the dogs to BK for chicken nuggets, since they haven't had an outing in several days.  More rain and storms are predicted for tomorrow, but I do have to go out then.

I got a little more cleaning done; of course, as soon as I got the dining room floor clean someone vomited all over it...  (Sigh)  I got out some summer PJs and tops (I even had to run the ceiling fan in the bedroom last night), and have another big bag of clothes ready for the missions closet.  Hopefully I can get at least two dozen summer tops set aside to donate, as I have far more than I can use. The bed is changed, the winter blanket put away, the throws I use on the living room chairs to protect them from the cats are swapped out with the "old" ones washed, and the only laundry that remains to be done at the moment is the shower curtain and liner, but I'll do them this week on whatever day I give the bathroom a good cleaning.

You know, Bird, maybe I should leave my car in the driveway rather than under the carport that's in front of the garage; that way God can wash off all the pawprints that I seem to have on it all the time.  Cat Wink

Susan, I totally agree with you - saying I can't have something sort of makes me rebel and I end up overdoing.  I remember years ago, when I lived in NYC, I just felt like buying something and went to Macy's after church.  A friend invited herself along, and kept nagging me:  "You don't need that."  "You have enough clothes."  Etc. etc. etc.  She got me so annoyed and frustrated that I told her I was going home, went into one subway entrance, came out another, and went back to Macy's...where instead of buying one or two items as originally planned, I spent over $1,000. Cat Frustrated (I had the income for it in those days.)

Hope you're feeling better, Snicks.

Praying all goes well for you tomorrow, Jean. I also hate spending money on things that aren't "fun."  Like my  utilities - I pay them at the last possible moment.   BTW, remember the store we went to in Nashville that had all the nice storage items, but was expensive?  I suspect my little cart would have cost over $50 there, as I saw a number of items there that I had seen previously in Aldi, and they were more than twice as much.

I used to enjoy the cooking shows as I love "kitchen toys," but I rarely have an opportunity to cook for anyone anymore so the toys don't get used. Cat Sad  I do enjoy my collection of baking pans, and a dear friend recently surprised me with that rolling pin that makes cat designs on cookies, but at least the things I make with them can be given away.  I think I'm going to list a few things I don't use for sale - like my Yonanas and that express cooker thingie there was an infomercial  for.

I hope your day is getting better, LindaL.  I can sort of relate to waking up to messes that have to be cleaned up, but mine are the kitty kind. Cat Wink

Twinny, just take one day at a time and everything will get done...good you're having a day for yourself today.

Well, I guess I'd better get to work.  Hi to everyone - have a blessed day!
