SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2024)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Hope everyone is having a nice day so far.  It was cloudy and warm on my walk this morning, but much more comfortable than the past few days.  Hope the weather is okay where you live. They are predicting thunderstorms and blowing dust later in the day.  Sort of a weird combination.

Nothing exciting going on here, which is good news.  I plan do so some ironing, cooking and cleaning later plus go to the gym.

I had to smile about the new toasters.  I have toast almost every morning so having a well-functioning toaster is important to me.  I know others are okay with toaster ovens or just plain bread/pastries, but not me.

You and your DH always seem to have many options for going out, Glenda.  Glad you are able to take advantage of them.

Waves to Glenda, Fressa, Barbara, Bernie, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

I can't believe June is almost over.

Please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2024)

Hello all, it was a beautiful and almost chilly day in my part of the world.  I prefer fall and winter so this was right up my alley.  We had lots of rain on Saturday morning and then it turned hot and steamy.  I'm hanging in there; my post op appointment is on Tuesday.  I'm so sorry that Jean is getting hit with a large dollar medical bill.  Every state is different and things may have changed since my last 'serious illness' with a family member in 2016; Michigan faciities tend to check insurance coverage prior to or upon admission.  They not only verify active coverage, they verify benefits.

Cute graphic, meallen.

I hope your follow-up visit on Tuesday is a great improvement to your surgery experience, Bernie.  I will be saying some extra prayers for you.

While I don't know all of the details, Jean told me that her insurance covered her expensive hospital stay with no problem.  When she was released from the hospital they said that she was medically able to recover at home with the medications prescribed.  Since she lives alone, going home was not realistic.  There was only one day notice to find a rehab facility, and the one she found was the only one available.  Apparently, it is a very good facility and the cost is not out of line for that level of care.  I am glad she was able to get a loan, but sorry her stay was so expensive.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2024)

It is July....time moves too fast for me now. I read an article about elders revisiting their life memories. I am doing that now. I need to start making journal notes.

i am having my outpatient back surgery on the 11th. That is pretty quick for this area. I am praying that it helps because I am struggling now.

thuderstorm and cool today. I have. Been running the heater fireplace. Lol

Linda..that is good news if Jeans insurance pays. I did not understand about having to take out a loan

Is your day going well?

I have been doing laundry and that will be my workout for the day.

enjoy 🦋🦋

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2024)

So happy to learn about your back surgery, Barbara.  That does seem relatively soon.

Jean's insurance paid for her hospital stay, but not for her stay at the rehab/nursing facility since they claimed it wasn't medically necessary.  That is why Jean needs to get a loan -- as I figure it, the rehab/nursing facility charge will be $30,000 or more.

It has not been a great day for me.  I'm still trying to process some things.  Nothing physical, just "stuff".

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Linda L,  I am loving my new toaster.  My fave  is sunflower seed bread when it's half price at $2.24 a loaf.  Its quite thin so not a lot of carbs for me.  I hope that you are having a better day.  I have been having a lot of different emotions lately.  Thank goodness we do a lot of fun things to keep my mind occupied.

Bird Mama, good luck with your follow up appt. today.  We are getting rain off and on all day, but I have been enjoying a lot of 70° days.  Tomorrow will be the hot day of the week at 83°.  Could be a lot worse.

Meallen, cute pic as always🤗🤗🤗.

Sydsgma1, good luck with your outpatient surgery next week.  I don't think I have ever had any outpatient surgeries.  My workout is doing laundry too.   I put in a load of laundry and get into the hot tub.  When it's time to get out, my laundry is done so I can go out and hang it up.   If I have another load I either dust the family room or the guest bedroom.  Then outside I go again.   It's a perfect setup in this house.

Our church picnic was fun at the park on Sunday.   The weather was picture perfect.

Yesterday  was euchre day at the senior center.  It's always a fun time to get together with friends.

We took the Subaru in to the garage this morning to get the hail damage fixed. They gave us a 20I0 loaner as it will take a week to fix which has a key to start it.  Haven't had a key start car for a long time.  I told my dh to find out where the gas cap is & how to use the windshield wipers🤔🤔🤔.  It's pouring with rain.

My stomach still feels a bit sore, but I took my last antibiotic capsule yesterday so I hope it helps me out.

I am looking forward to strawberry shortcake  & a good band tomorrow.  We have a lot of things to do at our senior center and it's only a mile away.

We are meeting our MPLS dgs for a fish fry on Friday night 30 minutes down the Hwy..  I can't wait to hear about his job.

Hugs to all of you.

Just want to say Declan and his family need a lot of prayers.  He just got done with his chemo treatments last week.  He had a scan done the next day and they found out that he has another large tumor on the brain.   He is such a little warrior.   The surgery hasn't been scheduled yet.

Good Evening!  You continue to have lots of fun things to do, Glenda. I guess it is normal to have a mix of emotions, but not always fun. I am surprised the loaner is that old.  Must have been funny to go back in time car-wise.

So sorry to hear about poor Declan.  I continue  to pray for him and his family.

Bernie reported on her post op visit today on the Among Friends, Birds Nest thread.  The highlights (to me) are that she took her sister with her to the appointment, got a new cast, and goes back in three weeks.  Perhaps she will post more here, but if not you might want to read her post.

I was surprised to find that two of our senior lunch program participants were married last Wednesday.  They had talked about it for quite a while (perhaps a year), and had a small, private ceremony.  Anyway, they asked another volunteer to make a cake for them (she made two cakes), and there were decorations, lots of pictures taken, etc.  I had made a banana bread, and ended up giving them the whole thing since they enjoy it.  We had some extra visitors today who wanted to celebrate the marriage. (I think the couple are in their mid-60's and both had been widowed).

It was hot and muggy on my walk this morning -- not comfortable.  We have had on and off sun since then with a high of 100 degrees predicted.  We also had about three minutes of fairly heavy rain.  Wish it were longer, but....

I plan to go to the gym soon.

Waves to Glenda, Fressa, Barbara, Bernie, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Sleep well.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2024)

I can appreciate why Jean made the choice that she did upon discharge from the hospital @LindaLatte   My broken foot is nothing compared to the complicated cardiac issues that Jean has experienced in the last several years.  Urgent care sends me out with ill fitting crutches, wishes me luck and tells me a doctor will be available to me in 3 weeks (not a bad wait for a specialist).  My sister just mentioned to me today that she didn't know how in the heck I was supposed to cope on one foot.

There are so many rules for establishing length of stay in any type of facility and I don't know if InterQual guidelines are still a thing.  It's all tied to insurance and is not always the best option for the patient.  Jean knows Jean better than anyone on the planet and I respect that Jean didn't feel confident being alone 24-7.  I'm just sorry it's so expensive.
