SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JULY 2)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny day, a great one for those enjoying the July 4th outings.

I'm watching the TSV presentation now but won't be buying as I have the Alta HR by Fitbit. I have not regretted buying it. I didn't buy it for the steps as much as the 24/7 monitoring of heart rate and the graph of it plus the sleep stages which is also available on the Charge 2. The difference is that the Alta HR is more narrow. If I had not bought the Alta HR when it was a QVC TSV I would be buying this. This is last night's sleep pattern for me:

My average resting heart rate is 60 but I have seen it drop to 54 at times. How accurate is the measurement of the heart rate? I have measured my heart rate with a blood pressure monitor at the same time I looked at the Fitbit and they agree within 2 beats. My current heart rate is 59.

As soon as my leg and hand recover, I'll be back into decluttering.  This coming week, I have to see 2 specialists about testing as they need to monitor to see if the bladder cancer is returning as well as the colon. I'm not stressed about it except it is representing money that could be spent elsewhere but that is life. We have to spend according to our individual priorities.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JULY 2)

Good Afternoon Jean @KonaKat.  You poor thing, you didn't get much deep sleep last night :-(

I never realized REM sleep was that close to being awake.  I always thought it was closer to deep sleep.  Learn something new every day.

Is your colon screening in line with the regular recommended interval or are they rechecking it early?

Because of family history (Dad) I had my first colonoscopy at age 44.  I was allowed a 10 year break and then had my second at age 54 (last Sept).  GI guy then said see you in 5 years.  I said 5 years!!!.  He smiled and said, family history.

Ugh.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

@KonaKat - if I had a Fitbit, I think my sleep pattern would pretty much match yours - doesn't look like you get much deep sleep - I don't think I do either.  I wake up quite a lot at night, then have problems falling back to sleep.  Requesting Ambien from my dr Friday at my physical.  If I don't get my sleep - I'm literally a bear all day long.  Thinking good thoughts for your tests this week.

On other business, this spring I had purchased a couple tops at Evine that had hi-lo backs.  Liked the shape of the garment, just not the hi-lo.  So today I chopped off the back to be even with the front and sewed the hemline.  Now I have a couple more tops to wear.  I really wish that would stop with the hi-lo - I believe it is no longer in fashion.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JULY 2)

Bernie--Sice getting this FitBit in March, I've seen the pattern showing that I am on the low end of the range for people my age getting deep sleep. I didn't include it in the screenshot, but the normal range for my age for being awake is 15-27%. I came in at 12%. REM is 12-22% and I came in at 12%. That is the stage in which most dreaming takes place. Light sleep is 40-60% and I came in at 67%. I've always shown myself to be a light sleeper according to sleep studies but certain sounds don't wake me up. Deep sleep norm for my age is 8-16% and I came in at 9%.

meallen--Thank you for the great graphics in recognition of Independence Day.

hoosiergirl--You might want to consider getting the TSV and see what is revealed about your sleep. Most people wake up often if just for a minute or three and don't realize they have awakened. If you have problems getting back to sleep, you certainly do not get enough sleep. Do you have problems falling asleep  or is it just when you awaken at night? The doctor will want to know that. Also, there is the possibility of a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea. These are all things to discuss.

Thanks for the comments on the upcoming tests. No, these are not the regularly scheduled tests. Lets just say preliminary urine and stool tests found blood although it doesn't show normally.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JULY 2)

Good Afternoon and thanks for getting us started Jean. Interesting discussion about the Fitbit and sleep.  When I bought my Fitbit almost a year ago, it was mostly for sleep and steps.  Really not that interested in my heart rate since I don't have heart issues.  However, I don't wear it at night so I really don't have a clear picture about sleeping.  I found wearing it at night was irritating to my arm, and I already have enough trouble with sleeping.  Keep thinking I should try it again, but just have not done so yet.  I do love it for keeping track of steps and "active minutes" as well as the reminders to move at least 250 steps per hour.  The TSV looks nice if I were in the market for a new one, but I am not.

Sorry you have to go through the testing next week, and I hope you are okay.  Glad you are having such nice weather.

Very nice graphic, meallen.

Sorry you don't sleep well,

My Mom had colon cancer, Bernie, and the specialist told to have the testing done every five years. Fortunately, my internist told me I could wait for 7 or 10 years.  Needless to say, I waited for the 10 years.  But, when I had the testing done last Fall, they found a microscopic polyp, and now I guess I'm stuck with the 5 year testing schedule.  Yuck!

DH wasn't doing too well yesterday, but he did open his eyes when I fed him lunch.  Most of the time, his eyes were tightly closed.  And, I think he is suffering from a cold or virus.  It took a lot of strength for me not to return at dinner time, but I did not do so.  This morning, I went to church and the gym, and I'll be visiting him in an hour or so.  I decided to go just once a day, but for longer periods.

I managed to avoid buying any CIJ decorations, despite some being very nice.  I have some other expenses this month.  And, I also decided to try some Alegria sandals.  A pair of interest was on sale in my size and acceptable color on Amazon.  They came yesterday, and I really like them -- very comfortable.

Need to get a few things done before I visit DH.  Hope everyone has a nice evening and sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, JULY 2)

Linda--Sorry that the Fitbit is uncomfortable for you to wear at night as the sleep data is fascinating and helps you to see changes and trends. The Alta HR I have is more narrow but still has a good display. It is lightweight and fits so well that I never notice it. I do hope the visit with DH goes well and he is doing better.

I  was on the 5-year colonoscopy schedule also but was hoping that we could forget it, but I guess not. I have to do the prep for the full bladder and kidney scopes on the average of two times a years, so this is getting old.
