SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Good morning, shopping friends. It  has been a very busy week so today will be a great day to relax. I was preparing to post early yesterday when I got a phone call from a friend. Basically, she was having vision problems in one eye which has been increasing for three weeks. Yesterday, she could see little in one eye. Her optometrist in the city could work her in so off we went.

She got the lecture of why she waited so long as she has a detached retina. They tried to work her in with a specialist on Saturday but with no luck. She now has an 8am appointnent in the city on Monday, with instructions to lie flat as much as possible until then. I'll be taking her to that appointment also.

I have an appointment on Thursday with what I call the "super cardiologist," the one that specializes in a specific type of heart condition. I also have one at the end of March with the regular cardiologist as well as the bladder and kidney scope procedures to see if the cancer has returned.  I've just been exhausted fron work and various appointments, so I've just been missing in action.

Needless to say, I haven't bought much since getting the new car. Perhaps it is because nothing has really appealed to me to turn on the shopping gene. I did see a Lori G.  top presented yesterday that would have qualified for the first item of hers to really appeal to me. I just let it pass. Prices are getting higher which is also a motivation for resisting any impulse purchases. If I hadn't seen that top, I would not have considered the possibility of buying, so visual stimulation in itself is not sufficient reason to buy.

I have no idea what the TSV might be as I haven't checked the Q or read my email. Instead, I'm watching a golden oldie TV program that remains as good today as yesterday.  This says something about the quality of older TV programs conpared to the majority of tv programs today.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Good Morning Jean, thanks for starting the thread for today.

I am really sorry to read that your friend has a detached retina.  What a blessing that you were available to take her to the appointment yesterday and are able to take her to the upcoming appointment tomorrow.  I hope the specialist will be able to do something favorable for your friend's eye.

Medical appointments sure can wear a person out.  You have to drive to get there, fill out paperwork and then repeat yourself to the nurse and the doctor.  To me, if I wrote the answer down on the form, why must I repeat myself?

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Good morning to all, and thanks @KonaKat, for starting off this morning. So sorry about your friend's vision problem. Wow, that is kind of a scary thing to have happen. One just never knows what lies in our future. You have certainly been busy with many appts, that's for sure. I bet a nice relaxing day will be wonderful for you. I also have not checked to see what is on Q today. I have been doing a lot of online browsing at various sites, but am thinking I really don't need anything more right now. I am still working on reducing my closet, so decided this morning that unless I need something specific, to just not place any additional orders from anywhere. Although I have to admit I am tempted, lol

@Bird mama, I agree with you about all the forms and then answering those same questions to both the nurse and then the doctor, lol. And doctor visits do tend to wear me out also. I will be seeing my RA doc in a few weeks so that will be interesting (she had set up a neurologist appt for me which I then cancelled, so she probably is not going to be happy with me,lol).

I was just on my mail order prescription's website portal to re-start a script that I had put on hold almost a year ago due to them doubling up on my order, so much so that I am just now needing it again (usually get a 3 month supply at a time). I sent them a message, but will have to keep checking as I am not sure enough that it will be taken care of, in order for me to have the refill within 2 weeks which is when I will need it. I did get an automated response that I should hear from them within 2 business days though. I actually raked up some leaves left from blowing, etc., yesterday, had to wait till nearly dusk to burn them due to winds. Today is very nice temp-wise, but even more windy. My little dog and I were both tired from the outdoor exercise last night, lol. Nothing going on so far today. Hope all are well. Waves...

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Good Morning!  Thanks for getting us started Jean.  I was worried when we didn't hear from you.  So sorry about your friend.  It is very nice that you could help her get to the doctor yesterday and will do so tomorrow.  I know just what you mean about not thinking about something until I see it promoted or mentioned on-line.  I love my Bose radio/CD player, and the price today is better than what I paid many years ago.  If my radio ever breaks, I'm sure that I'll want to purchase one like the TSV, but it isn't broken.  I should add that we listen to the radio a lot -- more than we watch TV.  So, it isn't as frivolous as it might seem.

Wishing you the best of luck with your medical appointments.  Yesterday, I received a notice from my insurance company about a new claim, and then today I received one about new things added to my record.  This was surprising since I haven't gone to the doctor in a while.  Long story short, they had paid a claim from my accident (June 2014), and added information about the medical care I received as a result of my accident.  Wow -- that took some time.

Hi Bernie.  I agree with what you said about filling out forms, etc.  I seem to do a whole lot of that for DH.  Really need to memorize some of his numbers (Social Security, etc.)

I hope you get your medication on time snicks.  I have had some problems with that lately for DH -- very frustrating.  I will need to call again tomorrow for a couple of his prescriptions that need to be refilled ASAP.  I need to clean out my closets for sure.  That is a one day at a time thing.

Need to get ready for church now.  DH got up several times last night, so I'm a bit tired.

Waves to Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, Susan, Marijane, spix, Rosa, Charlene, LindaR, Barbara, Gayle, Karen, pinky ann, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Bernie--Medical appointments definitely can wear you out. The suspense of waiting, waiting, etc. for one to be called back can get old and tiring in itself. I have a file on my computer which has all the essential medical info as well as drug info. I make copies of this, one of which is in my handbag at all times, plus one to give to the doctor's office. On  the form, I just write "see enclosed printout." I see no reason to keep repeating myself. I've actually not had a nurse or doctor repeat those questions unless it is to see if there has been a change in effectiveness, etc.

Snicks--I do hope your can get your prescription restarted without any problems. It does pay to keep on top of prescriptions, etc. I agree that today is a beautiful day, temperature wise. Can't beat 70 in February. I hear that the winds are going to be bad, however.

Linda--I don't consider the Bose replacement a frivolous purchase. When one really enjoys an item that finally dies, the first thing we want to do is replace it. I consider that a cost effective purchase because you get your money's worth out of it....a great investment.

Random thought - I need to go grocery shopping and I don't really want to, lol.

Bernie--Do you really need to go grocery shopping? Sometimes, it is hard to get motivated to shop if the cupboards have food. Do you make a list? Is the list long enough to motivate you out of the house? I hate grocery shopping.

@KonaKat

Jean, I shop from a list.  I got off of dead center and went to the store.  I needed to go, however I was feeling lazy.  Now that I'm home and cleaned off the patio to boot, I'm glad I did both.

Bernie--Sometimes I find getting motivated or ready to go is sthe worst phase; once I get started, I am fine. I just need to ignore some of my self talk and just do it....and get it over with.

I cleaned the trunk of the car out. Sometimes, I use the trunk as temporary storage until I am ready to do something. I'm also doing odds and ends around the house while watching "Happy Valley," a British series made for Netflix.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SUNDAY, FEB. 28)

Hi girls!

It's  an absolutely gorgeous day out there - 70° and sunny. I don't "have" to go anywhere, but it's too nice to not take advantage of the day, so I guess I'll just take the dogs for a ride.

Got my quiz done last night in just over half the alloted time; I'm not finding this class at all challenging; hopefully the program will get better as I go along. More and more I appreciate the education I got from my mentors many years ago - it's far better than anything I could learn in school.

Wow, Jean, I'm surprised your friend let a problem with her eye go on for so long; vision is precious. Good thing you were there for her.

LindaL, I've often thought of getting a Bose, but I don't listen to music all lthat often; maybe I would if I had a nice system. Last two shelf-top stereos I got didn't last very long; seems like nothing is good quality anymore. I remember my parents having a radio from the time I was a little girl (as far back as I can remember), and it was still going strong when I moved out.  People used to get things that didn't work repaired; now they just toss them...and talk about "saving the planet."  SMH...

I really enjoy food shopping; I like to see what's new and exciting, although I'm getting more and more away from processed food. One thing I like to do when traveling is check out local supermarkets to see what they have that's different from what I can get at home.

Snicks, I'm working on reducing things as well; I think it's time to part with a lot of clothes that I like, but have had for a long time.  They're classics, but as long as I have too much I can't justify buying anything new and besides, I have a lot of clothes that still have tags on that I've never worn because I wear the old favorites over and over.  Right now the only "shopping" that interests me is coloring supplies - I'm really getting into it, and learning about the different mediums, how to do shading, etc.

Well, I guess I should get dressed and get out while there's still daylight. You're absolutely right, Jean - the worst phase is getting ready to go, especially if I don't have someplace I "have" to go to. I did get my trunk mostly cleaned out last week; I need to get the car washed and take it to the shop for repairs from the accident - right now the windows are covered in "nose art" and the inside is furry...

Hi to everyone - have a blessed day!
