SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th

I am moving Glenda's post from earlier today to a new thread since our old one was running on for a few pages. --

From Glenda

Linda L, I am glad that your dgd's scan was normal.   How nice to be able to get a nice birthday cake for your hospice patient.  It's in the 80's again today, but I was able to sit out on the front porch until Noon.  Wonderful 70's tomorrow and lasting for at least a week or so.

Fressa,  we have missed all of the storm threats, but the Capitol City has gotten all of them.  We are going to be there tomorrow and Tuesday as I have appts. there.

Bird Mama, I do take extra strength Acetaminophen, but it's not a big help.  Of course, my ds & ddil are concerned & give me suggestions.  Yesterday, they suggested Miralax and Colace gel caps to make going to the bathroom easier.  At 6:00 a.m. this morning we went to Wal-Mart.  I am not fond of the powder that comes in a bottle that I have to mix with 8 oz of liquid.  I don't mind the gel caps  so I hope that they work.   The thing is,  I have a blockage which makes it so painful for me.   I had a rough night last night.

For the first two weeks all I ate was hot milk/3 saltines.  No pain, but as soon as I try to eat something else, I have horrible pain.  Yesterday, we had a good breakfast/lunch out.  I am back on hot milk/saltines again today.

I am so looking forward to seeing my gynecologist/surgeon on Tuesday at the UW-Carbone Clinic.  Yesterday, I got 8 pages of info  in the mail to fill out & give it to my Dr. on Tuesday.    Yikes!

I dusted the house yesterday and just got done steam mopping the floors.  They are two easy jobs and my dh vacuums.    Now I have nothing to do when I get back home.

Prayers are much needed as we go down a different difficult path. We are faithful in the Lord and know that our ways are not always His ways.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th

First, I want to let Glenda know that you are in my prayers.  I can't even imagine what you have been going through in terms of pain.  Like you and your DH, I am a believer in prayer.  Glad you and your DH were able to do some cleaning before your doctor's appointments next week.

I have found that the amount of paperwork required before doctor's visits to be overwhelming.  I have been able to fill out most of mine on-line, but it certainly takes me a long time.  I guess privacy laws prevent them from sharing, but....

Hope there are no bad storms when you are in the Capitol City.

All is quiet with our weather today -- just hot.  Fortunately, not as humid and the air quality is okay.

After church today, some of us put together bags of food to deliver to people who need it.  I enjoyed meeting some new people and talking to those who I know.

Jean told me that she is home but very tired.  A physical therapist may come to her house this week.

Usual Sunday plans for this afternoon -- gym, cooking, cleaning and ironing.

Waves to Glenda, Fressa, Bernie, Barbara, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone has a nice evening.

Hugs,

Glenda @twinny70   I remember that you buy sugar free treats and I thought it was more for your husband than you.  If your overall health can accommodate it, may I suggest Ensure Extra Protein Shakes or Carnation Breakfast Shakes - High Protein.  I can't lie - the Carnation ready to drink breakfast shakes are less expensive than Ensure's.

You're facing alot of unknown right now.  Some clarity will come from the appointment with the surgeon.  In the meantime, solid food causes you pain and you need to consume something a bit more nutritional than milk and saltines.  I'm a big advocate of saltines and I've been know to snack on oyster crackers while watching TV.

You are in my prayers and I hope that your IVIG appointment goes well tomorrow.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Linda @LindaLatte it was kind of you and the small group to bag groceries for those who are not as blessed.    I'm glad that Jean is home and not surprised that she's very tired.

Bird Mama, we are both diabetics so we eat mostly the same things.  Thanks for your recommendation.  I thought about those drinks as we bought them for my dmil when she was in an assisted living place and she liked them.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th

Good afternoon..it is a cool rainy day...no temps higher than low 70's.

Syd and I are going to Minnesota on Weds.  M, who is having big issues with mental wellness does not want her back until the weekend.  I am not going into detail but anyone who deals with it in a family member will understand.

Glenda..you are in my prayers. I drink atkins high protein and I know there are all kind of sugar free option. Your angel has her wings around you to guide you through this journey.

linda..I am going to try to be more social after I get back from Mn.  I am playing bridge tomorrow.

Glad your dgd is ok. It's too bad she has so many medical issues.
I am going to look for volunteer opportunities that do not require a lot of standing.

Fressa...I need to find a ferments market for some fresh produce. My son brought a jar of refrigerator pickles that were yummy. Have you had good luck with your garden.

hope your day has gone well.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME, SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th

Good Afternoon!  Another hot day here -- no surprise.  I had a very good visit with my hospice patient this morning.  She was awake, and we enjoyed watching the Olympics together.  When she was younger, she was an athlete and likes many different sports.

Then, I met with one of my fellow hospice volunteers to pick out a cake for our former patient who is turning 90.  Turned out that the printer used by the bakery at the grocery store recommended by the assisted living facility was broken.  We did pick out a cake from their book, and she will go ahead and order it from the other Safeway in town.

Our local Big Lots is closing, and she is most unhappy since she has found some items there that are not available or more expensive than other stores.  I don't shop there often, but I liked some of those items as well.  This is the second store in our area closing.

I know that Glenda is having an infusion today and going to an appointment tomorrow.  Sending hugs and prayers.

Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Glenda, Barbara, Susan, and all of our posters and readers.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda
