Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JULY 4)

Happy Independence Day!  Jean - I couldn't agree more regarding outrageous prices being charged for certain items.  I'm happy to pass them by.  Macy's has a couple of brands: Style & Co, and their Everyday Value line, that are good quality and less expensive than most of what the Q offers, so I buy those lines sometimes.  Bernie - your story of the pressure washing cracked me up too!  Twinny - hope that your DH recovers from his baseball mishap soon.

We might be going to my SIL's house this afternoon for a 4th of July get-together.  I need to find out the details and what I can bring food-wise.  Gatherings with my in-laws are awkward at best, but it seems rude to turn down the offer.  Hopefully we won't have to stay too long.  No fireworks for us this year, even though there is a very nice display put on by the local recreation department.  (Personal fireworks are illegal in our county and pretty much every county around us, but people still get them.  We live in a high-fire area, so I always worry.  Sorry about fireworks bothering your birds Bernie.)

I'm managing to milk the goats alright.  My hand starts to cramp up, but I think I'm managing to prevent any catastrophies at least!

My DC seem to be doing fine in London.  They went to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London yesterday.  Today they're going to see Wesetminster Abby, Churchill War Rooms, outside of Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, and the National Gallery.  They already texted me photos of Westminster Abby and the National Gallery, so I know they've been there.  In addition, a  young gal at their youth hostel took a group photo of the kids in their room and posted it on facebook - they look like the nicest group and that they're having fun.  So happy for them.

I also gave them them a heads-up, that the 4th of July might be OUR Independence Day, but in Britain, it's the day they lost a civil war.  Be sensitive!   ~   Charlene

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JULY 4)

Good Morning/Afternoon and Happy Independence Day!  I just lost my post, so I'll try again.

It is cloudy and a bit windy here, so I am not sure that I'll be grilling hamburgers as planned.  I may end up using my George Foreman grill instead.  Oh well.....

Sorry some of you aren't having good weather and have noisy neighbors who set up fireworks to scare your pets.  I don't think that is much of a problem in this retirement community, but it certainly happened quite a bit in Maryland.  Fortunately, my dogs didn't seem to be frightened.

I finally looked at the Clarisonic TSV, and I think those of you who ordered got a very good deal.  As Jean and others have said -- no need for special cleaners.  I mostly use the drugstore stuff, and the product they sell didn't seem to be any better.  I really do love mine -- I tried using a different brush (less expensive), but it just wasn't like my Clarisonic.

The church picnic was nice, if crowded.  They ran out of baked beans when I went through the line, but I have plenty at home.

Waves to Jean, snicks, Bernie, pinky ann, Barbara, twinny (hope your DH will be okay), Kathleen, Arlene, Charlene, Marijane, Susan, LindaR, Gayle, Rosa, Karen, and all of our posters and readers.

There aren't any local fireworks except at the casino up the road.  No way that I'll be going there, so we will probably do the usual -- watch fireworks on TV.  Having spent most of my life in the Washington, DC area, I love watching the fireworks there.  It is funny, but I think I only went to the fireworks on the Mall two times.  Once was when I was little, and one of my Uncles got us tickets so we could have seats and see the ground displays.  It really made an impression on me, especially since we were celebrating Alaska's joining the union (1959).  Yes, I'm old, very old.  LOL

We had a nice walk this morning, and I'll be starting laundry soon.  Weekly financial review to follow.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Barbara--I am  so glad that you are feeling good after the infusion and are able to fully enjoy time with the family.

Twinny--Sorry that DH had a problem and refused to acknowledge it but continued to play. Sometimes, at that moment, it seems like a good decision but the long range consequences can be a problem. I tend to downplay incidents myself.

I went outside thanks to incentive provided by Snicks and did some outside work that had gone neglected while working and dealing with the doctors. Sometimes, when I am exhausted from all that I put on a happy face but when home, I will postpone things. This is a picture of some of my favorite daylilies purchased from Cottage Farms. I used my itty bitty Kindle Fire HD to take the pic.

[ Edited ]

Linda--I agree that no special cleansers are needed with the Clarisonic  Its website just had a BOGO special on the brushes of buy 2 get 2 free, and sometimes the Q will feature the 4 brush heads for a special price usually in conjunction with a Mia push. I checked this time but think because they were including so many with the TSV that this little deal wasn't offered this time. Linda, one of the problems of using a Kindle tablet to take a pic is that it is so hard to see the picture before snapping, so I'm surprised that one turned out so well.

Charlene--It sounds as if the DC are having a great time and you will treasure each step via the pictures they send.  I do hope you enjoy the get together at SIL. I don't know about milking goats but I tried milking a cow once and it is harder than it looks. This is not one of my few successes.

I decided to update my Garmin this afternoon, so that is done should I ever need it. I don't really need it unless I go out of state. I've been streaming "Breaking Bad" with no Kindle breaks for reading. I've become hooked on a psychological thriller/detective series and am in the midst of reading the 6th novel in the series.

I'll be going to the city tomorrow to have dinner with my niece and a friend. I do think I have some items ready to go for donation.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JULY 4)

That is funny, Jean.  I had checked to see if they had that special on brushes as well. Please let me know when it returns, since it is a very good deal on brushes.

Have a nice time tomorrow.

I saw some pictures on Katheen's FB page, and it looks like they are having a great celebration.

Someone (maybe Bernie?) was asking why the dollar stores didn't have the holiday decorations she wanted.  I forgot to say that I have found that they get things quite early (long before I am ready to buy), and often not much is left near to the actual holiday time.  At least that is true at my favorite dollar store.

Still pretty cloudy here, and we had a few drops of rain.  Looks more and more like the George Foreman grill.  Oh well.....

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JULY 4)

Hi girls - Happy Independence Day!  It's another overcast day with thunderstorms predicted through Monday. Usually there's a fireworks display at the amusement park a couple of miles down the road but that was cancelled; the Chattanooga symphony has an annual "Pops in the Park" concert followed by a fireworks show that's scheudled for tonight, but seeing as there are flash flood warnings it'll probably be cancelled as well - I don't care for large crowds anyway, so don't really care to go, although I have a few times in the past.

One good thing about the bad weather is it's greatly reduced the noise from fireworks - I've heard hardly any at all.  Funny thing is, they're illegal in my town...but we have four fireworks stores!

I got my last paper finished and submitted just a few minutes after midnight, so now I'm free for the next seven weeks. I'm planning on a lazy weekend, then it'll be back to getting the house cleaned up starting on Monday - it never ends!

Bird, my dogs get a combination heartworm/flea pill, but I got the extra capsules for Autumn because her problem is so bad. I wouldn't use the Frontline or any of the others topical prodoucts because she swims several times a week, and takes a dip in the fish pond at least once a day as well, so it wouldn't last long. She seemed somewhat better last night - I only picked two fleas off her and they seemed rather "dazed" - maybe the solution is two of the capsules.

Jean, at one time paying $80 for a shirt wouldn't have fazed me, but not only have I gotten spoiled by such stores as Marshall's and Ross, but my priorities have changed.  I also like to have a diverse wardrobe and not wear the same things often. It's been a long time since I purchased any clothing from Q - or anything, for that matter. There's nothing that I can't get for less locally, and not have to pay S&H.

Charlene, how are the kids doing?

Beautiful flowers, Jean - I wish I didn't have a black thumb!

Gosh, I hate this new board - it's a pain to bounce  between screens, and of course with only ten posts per page....

Well, I guess I'm better give some thought as to what to do with my day.  Autumn is sitting in the car, wanting to go for a ride, so maybe I'll go to Walmart for dog kibble and doggie ice cream, then have dinner at the little Italian restaurant - I'm in the  mood for a meatball parm hero.  Hopefully it'll stay quite; this is my first Independence Day with Angelica, so I don't know if she'd be afraid of the fireworks or not.

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Jean, I was curious and looked at that shirt.  Are they out of their minds?  It's not even anything special!

Charlene, your DC might come across posters like this:

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JULY 4)

Hi Ladies, I'm back with just a quick post.. We had a really nice cookout/eat inside, and everyone was full and happy when they left. My sister helped me with the grill, a good thing, as DH isn't usually up to it anymore. We had rain until nearly mid afternoon, and the high was 65 degrees. I remember a few years back when we had the fireplace on for the 4th. Today came close! lol

Bernie, Hope you and your sister had a good visit.

Jean, Have a good time in the city tomorrow. Great flowers!

Linda, No official fireworks here. The folks by the lake may do a few, but so far it's been very quiet.

Twinny, I hope DH is okay. You're so lucky that he's feeling well enough to be active. Happy 4th my friend!

cerb, Hope your kids have wonderful  memories of where they've been for a long time to come.

Arlene, Enjoy your break from school. Hope you have a good evening!

sydsgma, I"m glad you're infusion is working so well. Have a fun evening with the grandkids. pinky
