SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Good morning, shopping friends. A friend and I are off to the city, where I will unload a car trunk load of things for donation plus get my nails done.

I've looked at the TSV.  D&C sizing, other than the original waist pants, has been iffy for me so I think I will pass on these. I don't need any jeans right now in the colors they are showing.

I'm out the door. Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.

Jean - Thank you for starting us today, have fun in the city.

Not much going on today, I am going to make some soup later and I think I will go to TJMaxx after lunch today,  Feel the need to browse, I do need to find a crewneck sweater for a vacation we are going on, so I need to get busy on that.  If I feel the love, I may even try to do a little decluttering here.

Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Hi Jean and Susan (so far).  I don't have much planned for today.  My DS is going back to college.  My DD said she will help me get programs set up on our new desktop computer.  Plus I need to finish taking down Christmas decorations.  At least I got the tree ornaments all packed away.

Yesterday my DD gave me a calendar that's published by the vet school every year.  Students contribute photos of their pets, and our young goat Cleo is featured in May.  She's a calendar girl!  lol.  I'm going to keep that calendar on the nightstand, and will use it to keep track of health and shopping info.  (If I buy something that's a "want", that day gets a black dot stuck onto it).  The good news is that I spent less on clothing in 2015 than I did in 2014, so I'm heading in the right direction, but there's room for improvement.

Improving health and less shopping and my goals for the year.  Not looking for "perfect"...just improvement.  Hope you all have a pleasant day!  ~  Charlene

[ Edited ]

Good morning all, thanks KK, for starting the thread, hope you enjoy your trip to the city. You are so good at finding things for donations, I will be getting back to that in a few days. I don't trust that the TSV would be anything like the ones they used to have (and that I loved) so am passing also, plus I like the bootcut better than straight leg anyway.

PAlady, soup sounds good as it is cold here today. Hope you enjoy browsing TJMaxx, you never know what you might find there.

Edited to add: cerb, we were posting at the same time, lol. Sounds like perfect goals to me. Kind of what I have in mind for myself for the new year also. Good luck to both of us on this.

We are going to spend some time this afternoon at the casino, we had talked about it throughout the holidays, but never went, so, thinking that most of the holiday crowds will have thinned out by now, decided to go today. I have taken my shower and got ready, hubby is showering now, so will be leaving shortly. Wish me luck, lol. Hope everyone has a nice day. Waves.....

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Good Morning!  Have fun in the city, Jean.  Good for you with the donations.  I have already filled two bags of clothes and linens for donation, and I'm working on a third.  In fact, I went through my linen closet this morning, and found several items.  I don't know why I kept things that I don't use much or really like, but at least the light bulb has switched on now.  I am not sure about the TSV either, and I don't need jeans.  So, I'll be passing as well.

Hi Susan -- good luck at TJ Maxx.  I really wish they had a store nearby or at least at the shopping plaza about 20 miles away.  Although I often came out empty-handed, I found some great bargains there when I lived in Maryland.  I'm planning to make soup as well.  I bought a rotisserie chicken from COSTCO, and this will be the third meal based on that one chicken.  Neither DH nor I are big meat/chicken eaters, so a little goes a long way.

Good goals for this year, Charlene.  That calendar sounds very nice, and happy Cleo is a calendar girl.

Hope you do well at the casino, snicks.

Waves to Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, Bernie, spix, Marijane, LindaR, Rosa, Karen, Barbara, pinky ann, Gayle, and all of our posters and readers.

Just had a call from the thrift shop -- they will pick up the old bar stools and desk chair on Tuesday morning.  I could have tried to take them there, but I was afraid of hurting my shoulder which is already sore.

DH's son called yesterday to wish us a Happy New Year, which was nice.  It also gave me an opportunity to talk to him about the hospice care, etc.  He is supportive.

Nothing exciting planned for the day, but I have a lot of chores to accomplish.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Hello all, thanks for staring us off Jean, have fun in the city.

Snicks, good luck at the casino.

I watched most of AM Style, chatted with the AM Stylers (lol) and then hit the ground running after the show was over.

I went to the dry cleaners and dropped off two coats.  I then dropped off my donation to the Salvation Army.  I made a trip to the recycling center and dropped off paper, plastic, carboard, glass and metal.  Glass and metal are new additions to my recycling routine as the center is only a few miles from the house.  Really makes a difference in what I place at the curb weekly.

My decluttering will continue through the better part of January.  My big job for 2016 will be the garage, Janey Mack, the stuff in there is overwhelming.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Today, if my head was not connected to my body via my neck, I'd swear I'd forget it.  When I forgot to go to home depot the first time out this morning, I attributed it to being on the phone with my sister the whole time.  I told her I was running errands and would put the phone down at the cleaners and Salvation Army because I don't like to be rude to the business people with which I am interacting.

Once I got home and realized I missed a stop, I did my month end/year end budget spreadsheets.  I used my wallet and change purse as I keep two spreadsheets - household and petty cash.

Maybe I should not have bought a dark green change purse, lol.  I remembered to put the red wallet into my purse and left the change purse, which of course had the home depot credit card in it.

I use the HD credit card once in a while so they don't cancel my account :-)

It wasn't until I got to the home depot that I realized I left the change purse on the kitchen table.  No problem, used my debit card.

I also forgot what the package of the phillip's LED 60 watt bulbs looked like so I wouldn't buy a box at the store.  Those LED bulbs really do last a long time -I use them for my yard lightpost with the magic eye thing that automatically turns the yard light on.  I also forgot the small piece of clear tubing I use from the humidifier to the drain (geez, louise).  I just used the last of it the other day and like to have a new roll on hand.

Never mind that I have the same humidifier for 14 years, I wasn't sure about the diameter of the darn tubing, so I didn't buy that either, lol.

Aside from the tubing (sample on the kitchen counter) and light bulbs (no memory of what the box design looked like), I did pick up everything else on my list and got out of there under $40.  I didn't even stop to smell the lumber today, rofl.

I told myself, Bernie, you have not had a pizza in 2 weeks, that's your problem :-)  I made a quick dash to Little Caesars, grabbed a $5 hot and ready round pizza and came home.

I am drinking a coca cola from over a Christmas ago.  The expiration date on the bottom of the can is August 2015.  Tastes okay to me.  Do you think pop really expires.

If I don't post for a few days, you'll know it is a very baaaddddd thing to drink expired coca cola, ha ha ha ha.

Bernie - Pop goes flat after awhile, but I don't know if it spoils.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Hi girls!   Well, yesterday's post got eaten up by the board; it told me there were too many characters, and then it disappeared. Cat Mad

On New Year's Eve I decided to make a quick trip to the local Walmart; I really, really, really hate that one (always crowded, never enough cashiers, dumb employees, etc.), but when I had been there the day before to pick up some cleaner I saw that they had a nice selection of the fleece shirts like the ones I had gotten myself, and I wanted to get one for my BFF (who is more like a sister) for her Valentine's Day present. To my surprise they had a really good selection of Christmas items on clearance - 75% off - so I was able to get good candy (Hershey's Kisses & Hugs, M&Ms, etc.) for the soldiers' Valentine's Day goody bags at a big savings.  They also had some really nice, large scented candles in jars (70¢), so I got the last three, and they had some Kong-like dog toys on clearance.  Since dogs are color blind, I don't think they care that their toys are red and green Cat Wink, and 70¢ for something that has been really holding up is a great deal.

So, I went to pay for my purchases, and chose a line that had only three people in front of me. Now mind you, there are some very nice people who work at Walmart because no other jobs are available, and then you get the ones like the cashier I got...

While I waited I perused the reading material that Walmart so kindly provides at the checkout stands. (I also noticed that - like Publix - they had a number of adult coloring books for sale, so they must be really popular.)  I learned that Elvis had 7 love children, Queen Elizabeth has passed over Charles in favor of William, Camilla is an alcoholic, Cher is dying of some mysterious disease...and much, much, MUCH more! Cat LOL

At last it was my turn. The cashier scanned the first bag of candy, which was coming up at only 50% off.  I pointed out the mistake, telling her that it was supposed to be 75% off. She said, "Well, maybe that's not everything." Really? They why were there signs saying "75% OFF ALL CHRISTMAS MERCHANDISE" everywhere you looked?  She tried to correct it, didn't know how, and went looking for someone to help her out. She returned after a few minutes with someone whose badge said "Assistant Manager," and who took over a minute to figure out how to put the key in the register.  After she walked away the genius cashier scanned 9 more bags of candy, one after the other...why, I can't imagine...then seemed surprised that the wrong price came up.  She called the Assistant Manager back again, who removed all my items from the bags, voided the sale, and told the cashier to start all over again.  Cashier rang up a box of chocolates; once again I pointed out that the price was wrong, to which she replied, "Well, I just rang up the same candy for another customer and that's the price that came up."  And her point - besides the fact that a customer was just overcharged - was?  On and on it went...my favorite was when she rang up the three identical dog toys:  Scan one, put it in the bag. Scan the second, put it in the bag.  When she got to the third she gave me a puzzled look and said, "This one doesn't have a price on it!"  DUH!  I had to really, really, really control myself to say in a normal voice (and not scream), "It's the same price as the two just like it that you just scanned!"  (I'm proud of myself for not adding, "You silly twit!") I kid you not - waiting time aside, it took her the better part of half an hour to check out my order; I kept waiting for Bill Engvall to appear and say, "Here's your sign!"  When I got  home I checked my receipt; the ditz managed to make multiple errors (like not remove an item that rang up wrong,so I was charged both the correct price AND the wrong one), so I was overcharbed by almost $11.  You can be sure Walmart's corporate offices are getting a call from me this week; the manager of that store is an idiot, which is why when I need more than one or two things from Walmart I drive to one that's about 10 miles away.

Anyway, by the  time I got out of there I was hungry and was craving pizza, so I went to Sam's, since I needed kitty litter anyway.  It was a mob scene and I didn't realize they were closing earlier than usual, so by the time I looked around and got my purchases it was 10 minutes to closing and the food court had nothing left.  I didn't feel like cooking so went to Publix to pick something up for dinner, and - since I was in the general area - checked Earth Fare to see if they had my Stevia sweetened soda on sale (they did); by the time I got  home it was almost 9  p.m.

So, I had my dinner, got washed up and settled in with a book. (I'm still using water heated on the store as there are still a few inches in the basement; the water is probably low enough to turn the pilot light back on, but I don't expect Victor to have to go slogging through standing water. And BTW, Bird, thanks for the tip about the gas company.)  Traditionally I have a date with the Lord on New Year's Eve, so spent some time with Him reading my Bible, then communion at midnight...best way to start a year!  Cat Happy

OK, I don't trust this board, so let me post this and continue....

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, JAN. 2)

Bird, I love my stuffed animals and couldn't imagine giving any way; I also never turn away orphans, so you can always toss them my way! Cat Tongue  I don't drink Coke anymore; the only soda I buy is Stevia sweetened, since all the others have either HFCS or aspartame, both of which are damaging to the body...not to mention artificial colors. I don't think soda goes bad, but I've noticed that although the cans stay good indefinitely, the bottles tend to go flat.

LindaL, you can buy me a new used car too, and I'll show my appreciation with home made cookies every month!  Cat LOL  Seriously, I'm praying about a newer car - which will take some intervention on the Lord's behalf - and have decided on a Subaru Outback.  So, we shall see...  By the way, did you ever noticed that "Subaru" backwards spells "U R A BUS?"  Cat LOL

Oh, I did pick up two cute tops when I was at Sam's (birthday gift from my favorite bear), but when I tried them on and I found myself trying to decide if I liked how they looked on me or not, I reminded myself that if I don't like something at first glance, I'll never like it, so back they go...

I got a large box from my cousin with both Christmas and birthday gifts. One of the Christmas gifts was a pet candle that was on my Amazon wish list, but even though she packed it well when I took it out of the box and took off the lid, shards of glass fell everywhere.  I do have one in a different fragrance, and noticed that - unlike the one I bought - the one she sent had some clear tape with a tag wrapped around it; I suspect maybe they were trying to cover up a hairline crack. I have to let her know it's broken; if she emails me the label from Amazon I can return it from here. She also sent a tote bag and a couple of unusual wire baskets that can be formed into different shapes; I was good and didn't open the birthday presents yet.

Charlene, the picture in my avatar is Ziggy, and it's the same picture that won him a place as "Mr. January" on the calendar from the low-cost spay/neuter clinic, along with some prizes.

Twinny, I pray for you often.

I think it's going to be a lazy weekend; I'll finish the Deaver novel tonight, and do have to get my office/library tidied up again - I have all the clearance stuff to put away into a box until it's time to prepare the bags.

Hi to everyone - have a peaceful evening and a blessed New Year!
