SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Good afternoon, shopping friends. It is a beautiful, sunny day and a great one to be out and about, a fact I briefly considered but decided to stay home and just rest. Perhaps later, I'll decide to do something but so far, it is just been a relaxing morning.

I turned on the tv in time to see the TSV presented with a caller stating she had bought 4 of the TSV boots. I could see buying 1 or 2 but 4? Supposedly, they were to enable her to color match her outfits. Actually, if I had been buying, one pair would be sufficient but that is just me. Boots are difficult to fit for me, so things like that re best tried on in the store. I still have a pair I bought new last year in a sale which have not been worn but will see action this year.

I subbed two days last week and am booked for four days next week. Things are getting back to normal but it is an adjustment.

I'm about to have a late lunch of Progresso Light soup, followed by some Kindle time. No shopping temptations here. If I don't need an item, the "want" will require me to really justify it based upon how much I would have to work to pay for it or give up something else elsewhere in the budget.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Good morning Jean and all who follow. I love bits, and have considered buying more pairs of the same style. Had I known my fave pair would get so much use last year i would have bought more. Hindsight. Better than being and then being left with excess to try to figure out what to do. I have a huge pile of what to do in the piano room.

I had breakfast with my best friend and now I'm chopping and preparing food. I have to make a serious effort to get it done. I am praying myself with the rv.

So many comments i wanted to respond to but logging on is so tedious. I hope you all have a great day!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Glad your weather is so nice.   I can't imagine buying four of any one shoe/clothing item at one time.  And, I agree with you about boots -- I really need to try them on.  All that being said, the TSV boots appeal to me, but given that our boot wearing season is so very short, I will not be buying.  Good news about work, but please don't push yourself too hard.

Thinking of you Kathleen.  Glad you had breakfast with your friend.   Iknow moving and deciding what to keep  or let go is very difficult.  Praying for you.

Waves to Arlene, twinny, Bernie, snicks, Marijane, Susan, LindaR, Charlene, Barbara, Karen, Rosa, pinky ann, Gayle, and our new posters and readers.  Welcome to all of you.

I ended up gong to the pool yesterday afternoon (late), and I ran into a few of my friends.  While I ended up treading in the water and light swimming rather than doing laps (due to conversations), I enjoyed myself.  One of my friends has a brother with dementia who stayed with her and her husband for two weeks after his wife died.  And, she said two weeks felt like a very long time.  They ended up driving him back to California and trying to arrange for help from the VA.  Another sad, sad story, but it was good to share with someone who has been there..

We had a nice walk this morning, but I have to admit that I "slept in" until 6:30 since I work up during the night and couldn't stop my mind from going.  Anyway, it was already pretty warm by the time we started our walk, and definitely by the time I finished.

I am not sure if I mentioned it, but I ordered the new shower head from Amazon, and it should be delivered today.  After I have it, I will call to see if my handyman can install it as well as grab bars for the shower.  I told DH about the grab bars, and he seemed to be happy about the idea.

Laundry is going, and I'll go my weekly financial review later.  I like doing my "strong bones" workout at home on Saturday, so that is in the mix.  Not sure what else will be doing.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

JEAN, It is a beautiful sunny breezy day in S. WI with a high predicted to be 80 degrees. we might get thunder storms tonight & tomorrow morning, but we could use some more rain. Then several days of 70's. The TSV look like they would be too tall for me & I like to try them on to see if they are comfy or not. I like short fur lined boos just for warmth but ones that are under my knees for when I get to trudge around in the snow. DH & I did take the mopeds downtown to the farmer's market this morning. Then I did my walk. It is getting somewhat better for me after 10 days. RC, It is nice that you got breakfast out with a friend. Hopefully this weekend you & your DH will be able to get some rest from your hectic schedules. Right now we are getting quite a few tomatoes so we had BLT's & corn on the cob for lunch. Our corn boil/fish fry last evening was very good. The fish, corn & all of the side dishes were completely gone. We had a good turn out so it was worth the effort for those frying the fish & the guy cooking the corn. I am doing some house cleaning today as I want to come home to a clean house next Thursday. We are leaving Monday morning & staying in a nice B & B Monday night. The owner has made arrangements for us to take a horse & buggy ride Monday night with the Amish farmer that lives across the street. It will be nice to see the back roads that aren't usually traveled on by tourists. This will be a do as we like trip as we don't have anything else structured at this time except Monday lunch will be at a very nice Amish restaurant. I should be able to get in some good walks too. Hot tub time.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Hi ladies,

Thanks for starting us KK. Glad you are enjoying a restful day. I saw, briefly, the TSV during AMS this morning, I have 3-4 pairs of boots that really don't get that much use, so no temptation for me to buy more. Good that you feel you are getting back to normal, work wise, don't push yourself to do more than you can, though.

RC, nice that you could have breakfast with a friend this morning. I too, have things I need to get back to deciding whether to keep or donate, although I am not moving, just still have more than I need, in just about any category. Hope you get everything done and get the move over, so you can begin to adjust.

LL, glad to hear you have a handyman who can install the new shower head and grab bars for you and hope they do come today. I am happy that while enjoying yourself at the pool you ran into someone who can relate to what you are going through. Hopefully you can keep in touch with her, as well as the support group. That has to help, just having someone who is also or has been where you are.

twinny, glad that your walks are getting easier for you. Hope you really have a fun time on your upcoming trip.

I did some cleaning this morning and have a last load of laundry to fold and put away, got lunch over with, and balanced my checkbook. Don't know what else I may do today. If hubby gets the new part put on the mower I may mow the lawn, if not, maybe I'll do some weeding. We did have thunderstorms early this morning that were more thunder than rain, so it is not too wet outdoors. The storms did seem to affect my computer for a little while, it went "crazy" then settled back down after the storms passed. Weird.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

LL, How nice that you could get a swim with some of your friends. It is good to be able to talk with people that are traveling or have traveled down our paths. I use a transport shower bench each day & have a very nice hand held shower head. The safety bars are also a good idea. My brother installed them for my mom a few years ago when we were struggling with some issues with her. The thing that I miss the most (other than my recliner) when we are traveling is my shower bench as bath tubs can be very slippery. I have been busy trying to find a 100th birthday card. I found where they should be in 2 stores, but they were all gone. A friend of my DH's family will be turning 100 next week. Her party at her retirement home is next Saturday, the same day that my BIL is having his yearly pool party at which time we are celebrating my MIL's 90th birthday. I don't think we can do both birthday's as there is about 1 1/2 hour travel time to get back to our hometown before 5:00. Just washed all of the floors, so need to take a little nap. I seem to be more tired this time around. The infusion before this last one was the best one that I think that I have ever had.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Had propane delivered this morning. Had to change out the regulator. Always something. It is a real puzzle to get the truck in.

I had managed to run out. Said the gauge sometimes stick. I checked once and had 40. Next time it was out! You have to get a pressure test when you are at zero. Always something

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

Hi girls! Oh, how I hate this new board - if it's not doing one bizarre thing it's another!  Cat Mad

Looks like the 90° temps are behind us, at least for now; I'm headed out to the pool to relax with a book while it's still warm enough to do so - it's just in the 80s.  I picked up a copy of  a Sue Grafton mystery in the free bins at the used bookstore; I had read it years ago, but forgot the entire story line.

LindaL, you may not have gotten to do laps, but it sounds like you got some good "exercise" for your mind; it's always good to talk to friends. On days I don't go somewhere I often don't get to talk to any humans - just my animals...although sometimes that's a good thing!  Cat Wink

Speaking of "friends," the sister of the former friend (the one who keeps standing me up and doesn't have the courtesy to respond to invitations) is really getting my goat - I'm about to block her from my FB.  She keeps posting how I have to forgive her sister, because Jesus forgave us.  Yeah, well...we do have to forgive those who hurt us, but we're not obligated or even expected to continue in relationships that are toxic and harmful to us; the word for that is "masochism."  She's getting really, really annoying - posting her silliness all over my wall.  Cat Mad  Sometimes I wish real life was more like FB, and you could just block out the people you don't like or who are ugly and nasty. Cat Wink

Twinny, Amazon has 100th birthday cards; have you looked there?

Jean, it takes a little while to get back into a routine; I can't imagine you not subbing, especially since you enjoy it this much.  Monday starts the first week of my classes; the first week is always a light one, so it's not too hard to ease back into it.

Nothing much else going on here; I just noticed last night that I got a text last week from a guy at the church I was going to - the one who was going to repair my air ducts.  I responded and said I just saw the message.  So...I'm not planning on going back there, but I'm wondering if I should take advantage of his willingness to come over?

The TSV boots don't appeal to me at all; in any case, I don't need any - I have quite a few pairs of boots, most never worn, as I don't go out often when it's cold.  I hope that woman who purchased four pair isn't running up a lot of credit card bills - I used to be stupid enough to do that!

I'm off to the pool, then I'll take the dogs out for a drive; maybe we'll go to Wendy's for chicken nuggets, although they're gone before I even pull away from the drive-in window!

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 22)

[ Edited ]

Kathleen--Have you found the ideal place for the RV to call home? There are so many decisions to be made in a move to your home away from  home.  Breakfast with a friend is a great way to start the day.

Linda--It is good that you found someone to share experiences with caring for someone with dementia. I'm sure the new showerhead will work out well, and it is good that DH likes the idea of grab bars. I really think all bathrooms should have them.

Twinny--It sounds as if your trip will be a relaxing one, and often a trip without too many built in plans can be the best as you have the flexibility to enjoy things that arise that you had not planned but are great experiences. Wisconsin is a beautiful state. I remember several years ago driving through it. I remember we stopped at the Dells.

Snicks--Balancing checkbooks must be contagious. I receivef a email that may monthly statement had posted, so I went online to check it versus my checkbook register. All is good as I'm certain yours was also. Good job on gettig te laundry done. Hopefully the weather cooperated so you could take care of the law.

LindaR--The Cheesecake Factory is one of my favorite places. The closest one is a little over 3 hours away but a group of us make the pilgrimage to it at least twice a year. I'm sorry about the added expense of a new regulator for the propane tank.

Arlene--The temperatures are more like Fall than Summer. The weather person was just discussing the lower than normal temperatures. I could handle this weather year round. Glad you were able to relax at the pool with a book. Yes, I enjoy subbing but the reality is that I will need to quit if not at the end of this year then next year. It all depends upon health and finances. I see nothing wrong with having the man check out your needed repairs despite your not planning to return to that church.

I've basically spent the afternoon reading, relaxing, and doing some minor things aroud the house. I lead such an exciting life. One of the highlighst is paying bills. I checked my new electric bill and can definitely tell that the cooler than normal temps this summer has resulted in a lower bill because the AC hasn't been used to the max.
