SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

Good Afternoon!  It is cloudy and considerably cooler here today --  may not even make it to 90 degrees!  They are predicting thunderstorms today, tomorrow, and even Monday.  We had thunderstorms again yesterday afternoon.  Certainly can use the rain.

Yesterday I spent a bunch of time with supply deliveries, filing, etc. at hospice, and then went to a "single women's" newcomers spaghetti dinner at a member's house.  She went all out, another lady brought great door prizes and one made pizzelle (Italian waffle cookies) for dessert.  There were far fewer participants this year than last, and it was cut a little short since a big storm was coming in, but it was fun.

One lady told a disturbing story about parking her car at a recreation center when she went on a day trip only to find the catalytic converter had been stolen from her car when she returned.  Fortunately, insurance covered much of the replacement cost, but....  Later she learned that the same thing had happened to another car in the same parking lot earlier in the day.  Yikes!

So far, it is a very quiet day here.  Took a nice long walk this morning, and laundry is still going.  I am still making decisions on what to take on my trip, but hope to finish tomorrow or Monday.

I heard from Barbara -- she is back in Arizona.

She is in pain and looking forward to her infusion next week and seeing several doctors in Arizona.  Hope she can get some pain relief soon.

After great consideration, she has decided to sell the Arizona house and move into an active retirement community near her son and younger daughter in North Dakota.  Sydnie is off to Michigan State, but will be able to visit Barbara when she is on breaks, etc. And, Barbara will be able to see her other grands activities.  I am glad she is at peace with her decision.

Waves to Fressa, Bernie, Glenda, Susan,, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice evening, and please post if you have a chance.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

Good evening ladies, hope all is well.

Linda - Thank you for starting us tonight.  Glad the temps are cooler for you.  We had a very nice and cool day today.  I should have done outside jobs, but I just did not feel like it.  Happy to hear your dinner was nice, sorry it was cut short.  The pizzelles sound good, I like them, but can not be bothered to make them.

Sorry to hear about you friend's car.  That is a problem around here also.

I hope Barbara gets her infusion quickly, being in pain is not fun.  I hope she finds the retirement community a good fit for her.  I am sure she will miss the warm weather in the winter.  I wish her the best on her decision.

We recieved our new couch for our family room, and we are happy with it.  We had our front door delivered on Friday, but can not get it hung until next Friday.  I am having second thoughts on the one we bought, so we will see.  We are now pretty much caught up on home projects.  We are considering new end tables for the new couch, but in no big hurry.  I need to measure and remeasure for the tables, I will keep you posted on them.

I hope everyone is having a good evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

LindaLatte--Thanks for getting us started. Your "single woman's " dinner sounded good. I ,make pizzelles every Christmas. I swear I could eat them like crackers but have to ration myself. LOL

Sounds like you were super busy again with your hospice duties.

That's a good reminder about the catalytic converter theft. You just never know.

Thanks for the update on Barbara. Hopefully the move will give her some easier options and being closer to family. You can never underestimate the distance connection. Hope she gets some relief soon.

We had a few degrees cooler the last two days and some rain at night. Today is a red day and breathing alert. Yesterday was as well. I always think that it should be a bit better when the heat isn't super high but that doesn't seem to enter into the mix any more.

I spent part of yesterday decluttering some old Halloween costumes and decorations. YIPPEE! I can now see the top shelf and found a lamp that I can donate.

Have a good afternoon.

PALady---Glad your sofa and door finally arrived. Good luck with the tables. I think the smaller the piece of furniture the easier it is to shop and select. I have to ration myself when it comes to those little pieces of furniture!!! I just love those for those corners. It's so dog safe and love to put a flameless candle on those.

Front door purchase is a big migraine, IMO I'm crossing my fingers for you. We have an older house so my deciding factor is always ---does it fit the space without having to do any extra install? Good luck.

Have a good afternoon.

Hello all, speaking of couches, I'm thinking of checking a local retailer and trying out a FlexSteel.  I'm not the kind of customer most stores want because I just want a couch - I don't need it motorized, I don't want any part of it to recline and I don't need cupholders, lol.  Just a couch.

My niece bought one of those LoveSac sectional things.  I don't know.... for the money they charge for a LoveSac I kind of expected more as far as the fabric and overall look.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

Linda L, I think it's going to be hotter here for a few days than in AZ or FL.  100° heat index tomorrow thru Thursday.  Your luncheon sounded very nice and I enjoy smaller turnouts  the older I get.  Thanks for the update on Barbara. I hope that your dgd is feeling better after her surgery.

Susan, I am glad that your couch is a winner.  Good luck with choosing your end tables, We don't have end tables, but we have my Mom's  cabinet which was hand made by her Dad in the early 50's.   It's in front of the picture window.   You are doing a good job at getting your to do list taken care of.

Bird Mama,  buying furniture is not my favorite thing to do either.  I have a power love seat recliner and my dh has a power couch.   I need to elevate my legs.   They are kind of a necessary luxury.  10 years old and still going strong (I hope).  Buying a new bed is worse

.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

We had a good time on our 3 day mini beach vacation.  Great weather so we were lucky.

We came back home on Thursday afternoon and stopped in to see my mil.  She had been sick all of Wednesday night.  A Dr. & nurse visited her  She said that the nurse told her that she had a few symptoms & couldn't remember what it was (we hope that it's not Covid19) so we left as soon as we could.    We are waiting to hear about what's going on.

My dh has an appt. tomorrow morning with his dermatologist for a 6 months checkup.

On Tuesday, I have labs, 6 months checkup with my rheumatologist/GP.   I am probably going to get a dreaded cortisone shot in my right knee.

Update on Declan.  He got his results back from all of the trial treatments and the tumor is a bit  smaller & so far there are no other tumors.  Thank you for all of your prayers as he is not out of the woods yet.

Yesterday, we went to the funeral for my 2nd  cousin's wife.  She has been sick with cancer for a long time.  It was in the Capitol City and the luncheon was a long way away.  Good thing we have a GPS .

[ Edited ]

Good Evening!  Waves to Susan, Fressa, Bernie, Glenda, and all of our posters and readers.

I am glad you like your new couch, Susan.  I bought a Lazy Boy leather couch years ago -- the most expensive piece of furniture I have ever purchased.  It is very comfortable, but really too large for my house.  However, I am not motivated enough to replace it.  I never heard of the type of couch you might like, Bernie.  I had a partially reclining couch in Maryland, but didn't care for it at all.  But, I know quite a few people like Glenda who absolutely need the reclining feature to keep their legs up.  If that happens to me, I will probably go for a chair rather than a couch.

Good work on your decluttering, Fressa.

Hope things are settling down for you, Bernie.

Your weather sounds bad, Glenda.  It is cloudy and humid here with thunderstorms predicted plus a high wind advisory.  It didn't quite make it to 90 degrees again today, which is well below normal.

I purchased gasoline last Wednesday when it cost $3.71 a gallon.  I was shocked when I saw the price on my way to church this morning -- $3.99 a gallon.

Hope everyone sleeps well.

Hugs,

Linda

ETA -- We were posting at the same time, Glenda.  Glad you had a nice mini vacation.  Hope your MIL is okay and didn't have a contagious disease.  Thanks for the update on Declan.  Good that you made it to your cousin's funeral despite it being pretty far away. Fingers crossed for your and your DH's medical appointments.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

Glenda @twinny70  Their is a running joke that it's hard for women to buy bathing suits and blue jeans.  Heck some women agonize over their wedding dresses. Well, I've purchased a wedding dress (didn't find it that hard), jeans and haven't worn a bathing suit in years.  Hands down, buying a mattress has been the worst thing I've ever had to shop for in my life, lol.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS ONE DAY AT A TIME (SATURDAY, AUGUST 19th)

Birdmama--So good to see y9ur post. We have a lov sac "bean bag" style chair/bed in a velour fabric. It's large enough to fit a queen size bed. It's very comfy but actully too large to use as a "chair". I have to admit that sectional caught my eye for the family room. The main reason being that it would be easy to get it through the door.

Buying furniture now seems to be an extra challenge. I just was window shopping for (2) bar stools that look more like a kitchen chair for the family room kitchenette. The price was as much as I paid for the living room furniture. LOL Guess I'm waiting on that purchase.
