Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny day but we have frost advisories in effect for tomorrow.
The month is coming to a close, and it is a time to evaluate how well we did with our purchasig goals for the month. I know I definitely came in far below that of April 2017. May is looming, so it is also a time to set purchasing goals for May.
I have a goal of finding 10 things today to find a new home. 10 things doesn't sound like much but if that was accomplished each day, at the end of a 365 day year, then 3650 items would hav left the house. How is that for living a more minimal lifestyle?
I've been watching AM Style but haven't purchased anything. I keep askig myself the question of "Is it a need or is it a want?" Part of the items to find a new home were likely "wants" that didn't materialize into long term "loves."
Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Good morning ladies, hope all is well.
Jean - Thank you for starting us today. Glad you are having a sunny day, ours is cloudy with some rain this morning. I think the sun is coming out later, but the temps. are dropping. We just can win around here. Good job on the decluttering, I need to get enthused here and do a few things today.
Not much going on here today, I do need to do some cleaning, I start then lose my train of thought on it. Well off to do something constructive around here. I hope everyone has a great morning.

Good Morning Jean @KonaKat and Susan @PAlady
It's overcast here and much cooler this morning. I thought we were supposed to get rain starting last night. The more technology we give our weather forecasters, the less accurate they are ![]()
I went to a couple of Walmarts yesterday looking for a particular special edition magazine (heard on facebook that Walmart was carrying it). I never found the magazine but I did finally find a borderless frame in size 11x14.
One of the retirement gifts I received involved coworkers contributing to a Michigan based wildlife rehabilitation center that took in animals, particularly birds that other rehab centers don't. For example - sparrows, pigeons, starlings and considered invasive species and a dime a dozen by many rehabbers. I learned this first hand many years ago.
To make a long story short (as, if, ha ha), the team signed the matte that framed the certificate and the frame that all of this was in was thick and obstructed the writing from my coworkers.
I don't often shop Walmart - don't know why, however they had what I was looking for in a frame for $3 and I was pleased. I also spotted the cutest t shirt in a purple ditsy flower pattern. I had it in my cart and browsed the cotton bandanas. I spotted the same pattern in a bandana and put the bandana in the cart ($1) and put the tshirt ($7) back. The pattern was similar to something I have in navy. I was able to get the frame and 3 bandanas (one was 25 cents
) for what I would have paid for the t shirt alone.

Hi everyone - I'm checking in at 7:30 west coast time. That's early for me! Bernie - sounds like you got some great deals at Walmart. I buy things there sometimes, including my favorite jeans. I'm hoping to shop there soon and look for something like pedal-pushers.
FASHION - my DD went shopping for some clothes yesterday. She wanted some new items for an upcoming trip to Puerto Rico. (Her vet school roommate is employed by the USDA and is assigned to Puerto Rico.) Anyway, my DD is almost 30 years old and she was complaining about the styles. She said that the H&M and Charlotte Russe-type stores were too young and trendy, and Macy's seemed too old. She also complained about way too many cold shoulder, off-the-shoulder, and peasant top looks. (I love certain peasant tops, but my DD, not so much.) For one thing - she's always dressed modestly and she doesn't like frilly overly feminine items. I found it interesting that she's finding herself in an in-between stage at her age. I'm hoping that as a Mother's Day gift to me, we can have a shopping day together, and maybe I can help her find some appropriate things. She's not into shopping that much, lol.
Yesterday I spent several hours doing yard work (our green waste can was empty again). My DH and I are about to go outside and resume work. The good news is, that even though there's still a lot more to do, I can see that a lot of progress has been made, especially in the most visible areas of our yard. We've realized that the late freeze we received damaged plants more than we had originally thought, so our shrubs need much more pruning back than anticipated.
Hoping to get some errands run this weekend too. We have a coupon for Tractor Supply that I want to use before it expires.
Well everybody - hope that your weekend is productive or relaxing - whichever you need. Waves to all ~ Charlene

Hello Ladies...a nice sunny day here too although I think we are to have some rain overnight. HAd to laugh about your DD and her shopping and not finding anything Charlene....I don't have any cold shoulder tops myself....Macy's "too old" ? WE had a dump truck full of mulch dumped in our driveway this morning....not sure if the lawn guys will spread it this afternoon or this coming week.
Bernie I don't have a Wallmart near me and I don't think I have been in one since moving here in '97. IN fact the funny thing is when I first started reading this thread was the first time I found out that they sold food items etc in there....there was one up in Maine I would go to once and awhile but they didn't sell food and that time.
I had gone out to the store earlier and now home getting ready to do something......there's plenty I can do but will I? I bought the making for stir fried chicken and noodles for tonight so I guess that will keep me busy for awhile. THat's about all....have a nice day everyone......Marijane

Good Morning and thanks for getting us started, Jean. You certainly did a great job with wise shopping this month. I did pretty well, but there is always room for improvement. I saw a couple "wants" in AM Style (saw a little on-air and the rest on-line), but managed to hold off on purchasing. Some are on my wish list now, but none are coming to me yet. I can't even imagine finding 10 things to donate per day every day. Actually, I can't imagine finding one thing per day since I usually find more than one or more often, none. I guess I am not ready to be a minimalist, but I am trying to de-clutter. .
Our weather is supposed to be hot and windy today and tomorrow, but cooler next week. It will be quite different if we do indeed have highs in the 70's after several days with highs in the 90's. DH's DD is coming for a short visit Thursday evening, and I think it should be back in the 80's by then. I finally broke down and turned on the AC yesterday evening -- I have difficulty sleeping if it is too hot. Anyway, the AC was not on for long, but it did help cool things down.
Hi Susan -- I hope I get some chores done as well. I know I will get the laundry and financial review done, but not sure about anything else.
You did well at Wal-Mart, Bernie. I have to admit that Wal-Mart is my go-to store since it is nearby and has so many "needs". Some things, such as wipes for DH are very reasonable there, as well as some grocery items. I try not to go too often (more than once a week, if possible) since I usually find something extra to buy.
That is funny about your DD and clothes shopping, Charlene. My DD and DGD inherited my love of shopping. Fortunately, they are more restrained than I used to be. Hope your DD finds some "age appropriate" clothes to wear. Good for you doing all the outdoor work.
Hi Marijane. I was a relative latecomer to Wal Mart since there were not many near where I lived in Maryland for most of my youth/early middle age. Then, my DD moved to the outer suburbs, and she went to a store there. The rest is history as they say. LOL Hope your lawn people take care of that mulch soon. I have my salsa chicken in the crockpot, so chicken will be on the menu for a few nights.
I will be visiting DH soon. Yesterday, he was leaning a little, but in very good spirits. I am considering buying him some "Ensure" shakes to help with his weight loss/lack of eating. Not sure that it will do any good, but the caregivers think it is a good idea.
Have a nice day everyone!
Hugs,
Linda

Linda @LindaLatte I used to drink Ensure high protein drinks all the time until they cut the bottle size down, but not the price. If the cost of Ensure gets cost prohibitive, I can highly recommend carnation high protein drinks, especially in the rich chocolate flavor.
Wow, this pic is from Walmart. I never knew they sold the 12 pack of bottles. hmm, I think I need to visit Walmart more and explore :-)

@Genny1- yes, you are allowed to laugh at my DD finding Macy's "too old". They do have a junior's department there, but my DD's picky I guess. I happen to love Macy's myself. We have about a 40 minute drive to get to the closest one. One of my favorite brands there is called Style & Co. It's more reasonably priced than QVC items. Since I know how the Style & Co clothing fits, I will look for them on ebay, and have gotten good deals there.
My DH and I made great progress in the yard. We have neat piles of branches here and there, waiting for when we can dispose of them, and a big pile of leaves near the compost area. I thinned out a big clump of Fortnight Lilies, and transplanted some iris from one place to another. We also transplanted a "volunteer" bush to a place where a previous bush had died. By volunteer I mean, we once had a Desert Cassia bush growing in the yard which fell over in a big storm, but not before depositing it's seeds all around. We noticed last year that baby cassia bushes were starting to grow. Today we dug up the biggest of the lot and moved it to it's new permanent home. Hope it'll be happy there. Just because I like to garden overall, doesn't mean that everything I grow is successful, lol.
It's a beautiful day outside, by the way, just a perfect day for gardening!

Linda--Pemier Protein shake has 30g of protein, 160 cal, 1g of sugar and has 24 vitamins and minerals. I get it at WalMart. The package contains 4 shakes at 11 oz. each.
Bernie--WalMart has an amazing supply of diverse items. You might find some of the things sold by the Q.
Charlene--Good job on the lawn work. I don't have the energy for it right now.
Marijane--WalMart is my primary stop for groceries. We have two WalMarts in the city. I have affectionately given them nicknames. One is the "red neck" which carries the basic food items plus foods that appeal to those who love coutry cooking. The other one, which I prefer, carries basic foods but also gourmet food items, so I call it the "gourmet" WalMart. It is the one frequented by higher socio-economic shoppers as it has a better selection than the regular supermarket in the area.
I was making a joke about the ten items a day. I could easily do that with the junk mail that comes in and takes time for shredding, etc. I did get ten items collected but I don't see myself doing that everyday. It comes in almost as fast or faster than it goes out.
Midnight spent much of the afternoon curled up beside me while I read. He is definitely feeling better.
