Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, MAY 19)

Hi girls!

Good to "see" you Rosa; you've been in my prayers and thoughts. Hope you enjoy the new job - it's good to have something to keep you occupied and your mind busy. Please make sure you send me your new email addy.

It's finally gotten a bit warmer out, but nowhere near where it was a week or so ago. I'm holding off on getting the pool open until it looks like summer is here to stay; I sure hope it's not another "summer that wasn't" like last year! {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown} Yesterday we went to the really big park and ended up walking for a couple of miles since the sun made an appearance and it was pretty cool - I was OK with a sweatshirt. The rain started again last night, though - this is getting really old.

The TSV would be cute for golfing, but I have no need of clothing at all - I'm trying to pare down on what I've got. There are some things I've had for over 20 years - they're classics, and especially in the case of my old Liz Claiborne things that I got in Bloomie's or L&T when it was still a good quality brand I'll hang onto them. I'm aiming for a more classic, elegant look; I'm getting away from jeans and T-shirts, except for around the house.

Jean, I guess the Cheddars - like all chain restaurants - vary by location. Ours opened shortly before Christmas and there's never a day I've passed by that the parking lot wasn't full, and the food was some of the best I've ever had. I'm starting to think that if I want to go again any time soon I'll have to go alone on a Monday or Tuesday, somewhere between lunch and dinner, as that's probably when they'd be the least crowded. I see a new restaurant opened in the same shopping area - Firebird. Have any of you ever gone to one? That's one thing about this area - there are very few independent restaurants, apart from "dives" (not a bad thing - think Guy Fiori); almost every real "restaurant" is a chain. A gourmet's delight it's not. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

Guess I'll get my website updated then take the girls out for a long walk - I'm taking the day off from homework. Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, MAY 19)

Jean, the casserole was delicious. I made it in a 9" x 9" pan as there are only two of us. I plan to reheat it in the oven tomorrow night as we didn't eat all of it today.

Susan, I live in S. WI. Only 7 miles from the IL border. How far from Lancaster, PA do you live? I know there is a QVC Outlet Store there. I have been there many times in the last few years.

I am still sitting on the fence when it comes to ordering the TSV. I think it may be too long for me as I am only 5' tall.

RC, Have fun while the boss is away & enjoy yourself. After your busy weekend, it will probably be a calm day for you. What kind of shoes did you just get?

Rosa, My thoughts & prayers are still with you. I am glad you did get a job in a field you know lots about. Yes, it would be sad closing down the other office.

Linda R, I am like you. Too many fashion shows, too many beauty days, cooking shows, beds & the list goes on & on.

Gayle--Having jeans too big is a good problem to have except it means spending money to replace the items, but that is also good. Exercise is really paying off for you.

Rosa--It is so good to see you posting. It is good that you are transitioning to a new life. DH would not want you to wither away. Instead, he would want you to be as active as possible and if that includes changing insurance firms then it is a positive move. Yes, transitioning from the old to the new will be a challenge but it is a challenge that you will meet.

Arlene--I've never heard of a Firebird restaurant. I agree that chain restaurants can vary from location to location. Paring down what we have is a challenge. I'm putting all my black tops together, pink together, etc., and see which one of each color group can go.

LindaR--Other than it being 24 hours of clothing and accessories, I really don't consider it a Fashion Day. I always considered that to be when the new and returning seasonal clothes were introduced.

Rosa, so happy to see your post. I'm glad that you have felt the Lord holding you and carrying you. I'm sure DH will give you a hard time about it once you get together again! lol

Twinny I was kind of down this morning, and wanted to go shopping. I posted on FB that "only shoes could make me happy" and I learned how to make a little shoe icon. I dont think it will post right here. At lunch I went to Sam's and bought my coworker a birthday cake. The person I had asked to make his cake (I knew I would be tired when I came home) forgot. I felt bad, and told him I hoped he would forgive me for buying my favorite cake! Smiley Very Happy

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, MAY 19)

Good Afternoon! Great to see you posting Rosa. You have certainly been in my thoughts and prayers, and I'm very happy you have found a new job to keep you busy. I know it has been a sad and difficult time for you, but I also know your DH would want you to be happy and active, even if it is a different insurance company.

Glad you had a nice time yesterday Jean. I know that I should go through my clothes again -- don't know why I have "clothing insecurity" since I have so many more than I need. I have had many of my clothes for ages since I'm still the same size, and I'm not hard on my clothes either. No TSV for me since I don't know where I would wear it either. Not bad looking, but.... I read some comments about the fan yesterday, and several people said it was worth the money, etc., but I still did not crumble.

Hi Twinny -- glad you enjoyed that Taco casserole. I prefer Fritos myself, and I love Lay's potato chips. They are one of my worse vices (in terms of food). Oh well.... Most of my diet is healthy.

Happy the first Communions went well Susan. It is funny how you need to "make up" for things you didn't get done over the weekend isn't it? Sometimes I can get a little stressed when I don't do things like laundry "on schedule". It really doesn't make much difference when you are retired, but....

Good for you with the jogging Gayle. I tried it many years ago, but I really, really didn't enjoy it. Fortunately, I can handle other types of exercise. Sorry that you are "in between" sizes. But, good that you have lost some weight.

Hope you have a nice day at work Kathleen. I guess it will be strange to have both girls out from the nest, but sounds like you are having fun with your weekends away with your DH.

Waves to LindaR, Arlene, Marijane, Sonya, Karen, Nancy, Kathy, Val, and all of our posters and readers.

DH had an appointment with the neurologist this morning, and now he will have another medicine to take.

We had a nice walk this morning, and I will go to Curves this afternoon.

Nothing else to report.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, MAY 19)

Linda--I never thought about "clothing insecurity." I just know that when I was very young, we were limited about what we could buy. When it was time for school to begin, we would make the trip to the city to buy shoes and limited number of clothes. The next clothing expedition was in Spring. I think we did fine with the clothes we had. Now, temptation is all around and we feel it is our duty to buy. I just heard something on Dr. Oz that said that many people who could not postpone purchases and make impulse decisions, purchases, etc. could have ADHD symptoms are present elsewhere.

I know I have a thing about deodorant. I will never run out - always have at least 1 extra in my stash. In college I ran out and didn't have any. It was probably only for a couple days but I never forgot it.

Jean, do you remember what day you posted that recipe? I meant to copy it right away but didn't, and now I've been looking for it and can't find it! {#emotions_dlg.crying}

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, MAY 19)

I just made reservations for activities in Nashville but leaving time for spur of the moment decisions. I'm a bear about having time managed so that there is little wasted time. Too often people waste time trying to decide what to do once they get there, and sometimes find some activities are booked full.

LindaR--The procedure for which my niece is a candidate is a relatively new procedure. Thanks you for the good wishes.

Arlene-- Here you go for the recipe:

Taco Casserole

1 7oz. bag Nacho Cheese Doritos, crushed...
1 lb. hamburger, browned
1 pkg. taco seasoning, mixed according to directions
1 (8 oz.) pkg. shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (8 oz.) pkg. shredded Mozzarella cheese
Shredded Lettuce
Sliced tomato

Layer ingredients in 9 x 13 pan as listed - crushed chips, meat and seasonings, 2/3 of cheese, lettuce, tomato, and remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
