SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, JULY 8)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a very cloudy day with storms forecast for the afternoon and evening.  I'm not going anywhere, so Mama Nature can rain and, in some places, flood. This is very old!!

Tomorrow, I go to the city for a doctor's appointment. I have spent 4 hours and 50 minutes going through things, deciding what should go, etc. In doing so, I found thank you notes from students dating back over 20 years. I took a pic of the really special ones and disposed of them. The reality is that I rarely looked at them and I know whoever goes through stuff when I check out could care less. I found an apron that belonged to my grandmother which my mother kept. Get the idea? We keep physical proof of memories.

I'm watching Denim & Co. I have no problem with the line except for the escalating prices. I'm wearing a top from Kohls right now which I got on sale and looks good. I will say, however, it is not the quality of the Denim & Co, so it won't last more than one year. That is fine if the price paid was so low that buying again isn't an issue when it needs to be replaced. On the other hand, the cost per wearing enters into the picture. Is the disposable one-year top as cost effective as the one that can be worn two or three years?

I will say that I liked the last QF set of two tops that was a Big Deal so well that I went and purchased another set. The price was right, the quality was there, and the fit was great. Adding to it, the accents were subtle which made it a very wearable top for multiple events.

I'm off to fix lunch, and then will take a break reading "The Last War," a book I downloaded free to the Kindle. If you like reading apocalyptic things, the book is excellent.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, JULY 8)

@KonaKat  It's a beautiful day here in NE Ohio, a repeat of yesterday. We are having a two day break from the intense heat and humidity, but it will be back tomorrow.  I really don't mind the heat, as I'm much more tolerant than most people.  I've yet to use my A/C.  In my condos, all window are closed and A/C's are running constantly.  It's funny because there's one other woman like me who lives almost directly across the courtyard.  I look over to see if her windows are open, and I know she does the same with mine.  It's kind of a contest to see who will succumb and turn on their A/C first (so far I'm winning)!

On Wednesday I have an appt. with my retina specialist.  I've been having inflamation problems with my left eye ever since my cataract surgery two years ago.  I've had three shots in it, and also had a detachment last November.  I wasn't scheduled to see him again until the end of August, but I called them because my vision is getting bad again.  Thank goodness the other eye has been OK, or I wouldn't be typing this right now!

I'd say paying less for clothes is probably the right idea because I tend to tire of them and want some new items in a year or two anyway.  My taste changes frequently as well.

Heading off to my lunchtime workout in a few minutes!

Hello Ladies...sorta suny /cloudy dayhere....we are suppose to get storms later today too.    I guess I didn't realize AM style is on Monday mornings too....I caught some of it with Leah today.  I had ordered 2 denim crop pants from LL bean over the weekend... I have their  MasterCard c so always get free shipping plus I had Bean cash that I used..they were also on sale.

Hope your eye 2blonde will be ok.....good luck at the drs Wednesday.

We are having 3 trees cut down today..I noticed them this spring after all the trees were in bloom but these weren't.  Guys are here going up in a bucket since they are really tall ones....they won't be missed since we have a lot of them all over.My DH  and son will eventually split the wood....which will be a lot,and when they are aged will use them in the wood stove next few years.......we already have wood stacked for burning for this coming winter from trees down last year.

Sounds like you had a nice weekend with your family Twinny and happy that your DH  apt with the neurologist went well and that your  infusion  did too.

Thats about all from here....have a nice day everyone.....Marijane

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, JULY 8)

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Jean.  You certainly have spent a lot of time going through things -- good for you.  DD said the weather in Maryland is not good with flooding in some areas.  It doesn't help that she has a migraine today (nasty thing she inherited from me.)

I have not purchased Denim & Co. lately -- mostly due to the prices, but also the lack of need.  I saw the thread about the quality going down, but I cannot speak to that happening since I haven't purchased anything new in quite a while..  I am more adventurous with Wal Mart, TJ Maxx, and other discount stores.  The cost of the items are usually quite a bit less, so I don't mind so much if I change my mind after the purchase.  Glad you enjoyed the QF tops so much.

Hi 2blonde -- hope things go okay with your eye.  I have "laxy eye" (left eye) so I basically rely on one eye which makes me very nervous about cataract surgery, etc.  Funny story about the AC/windows open.  Not sure if I could handle the weather in your area without AC, but it is hard to tell.  I do wait as long as I can before turning on the AC, but I just can't handle sleeping in the heat.  In southern Arizona, we do get the heat.

At least you still have plenty of other trees and can use the wood for fires, Marijane.  I'm sure it isn't all that inexpensive to have the trees taken down, but...... We are having mostly sunny weather here with highs in the upper 90's, but it was nice and cool when I started my walk this morning.

I had my "strong bones" class this morning, and I have my hospice grief group this afternoon.  One of my buddies cannot attend since she has started a part-time job, but two others may be there.  I will go out for coffee (or maybe ice cream) with one of them if she attends.

The widows group was not good yesterday, and I have pretty much decided to discontinue going to the meetings.  I have been bothered in the past with a bit of "cliquishness" among some of the widows -- some of them widows and church members there for many years.  They end up discussing the sermon and other church-related subjects, and I do not belong to that church (where it is given).  But, yesterday was really not good in that more than half (much more) of the meeting ended up being about issues having nothing to do with coping with grief, etc. -- mostly political discussion.  Not helpful for me.  I plan to stick with the grief and caregivers meetings, at least for a while.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice day!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, JULY 8)

Linda--Time is valuable so if the widows group is frequently off task and not meeting your needs then perhaps it is a good idea not to return. You have other activities to help you as you help others.   As to "going through things," I should do that on a daily basis. I haven't looked in those drawers in that room for several months so I had forgotten what was hidden in some of the boxes in the drawers. It takes time for me to decide what to do with things, so I probably take more time than most.

2blonde--I like buying new things also so with the rising prices at the Q, I've been looking elsewhere except when there is a really good deal at the Q. Just to glance at them, the IM crop jeans on clearance for $44+ just looks like less expensive jeans from WalMart. Some of the things sold on the Q can be found at Kohls; for example, Mally cosmetics. Good luck at the doctor's appointment.

Marijane--If those trees didn't bloom or leaf and you have plenty more then it makes sense to cut them down and use them for future firewood. Enjoy your  crop pants from LLBean.

If the weather ever improves and my deck gets painted and treated, I'm debating getting some new deck furniture while on sale. I hate to buy it now because it seems as if the weather is never going to cooperate. I decided against getting Bernie's converta-bench. I decided I would rather have two chairs and a matching table. The Q does have a Bliss set on sale which matches the Bliss gravity free rocking chair I have.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (MONDAY, JULY 8)

Hello, hello, hello Smiley Happy  My next door neighbor's grandkids were over yesterday replacing the cedar mulch that she has in the bed in the front of her house.  The property on the side of my house that borders her driveway is technically part hers and part mine.  She has this patch of dirt that she has had nothing planted in for over 15 years.  Honestly since it's not on my side of the property line I don't care what she does with it.

Just this side of the property line, I have an evergreen shrub.

This woman is hardheaded.  Every year she piles up the mulch on her empty patch of dirt and insists on piling mulch under my shrub all the way to my foundation.

Every year I go out with a rake and clean that mess out.  The cedar mulch attracts ants and I don't want ants.  You would think she would notice that I remove it every year, sigh.

Her car wasn't in the driveway when I was cutting the grass in the front yard so I had an opportunity to clear out 90% of the mulch on my property.   I'll clear the rest out later this week.  Woman Frustrated

I'm glad I was able to mow the front and back yard while the temperature was nice this morning/early afternoon.

But none quite like the element of surprise

Hello All:

@KonaKat:  Safe travels to your appt., hope all goes well

@LindaLatle :  I can understand your frustration re: the support group

Quiet day today, yard man hired and I am hanging up that duty among others.  Thanks for all your comments and support on the string yesterday, I could relate to them all.

Gayle--With your current responsibilities, having someone else do the lawn frees up some time for you and lessens the pressure.

Bernie--I think your neighbor isn't very observant...or is stubborn and thinks more belongs to her than what is appropriate. I use rubber mulch close to the house. It lasts much longer and doesn't attract critters especially those that love dampness, wood, and even a house.
