SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, MAY 21)

Greetings, shopping friends. I was up early going through odds and ends, determining what should go---a never ending process here. We will be nearing the upper 80s today, something I enjoy very much.

It just dawned upon me that we are nearing the anniversary of this thread. I don't remember te exact year but I do know it was a year before I went to Austsralia for the first time, and the savings I made in that year following the suggestions in the thread enabled me to enjoy Australia very much. We are looking at about 12 or 13 years of this thread. At that time, it was very much an emphasis on making wise shopping decisions and saving money by recognizing trigger woreds to make a purchase, or personal weaknesses that led to unneccessary buying.

Now, we are more of a social thread. None participating are true shopaholics but we do enjoy shopping and talking about our daily lives, and it is that discussion of daily lives that  has led some to be concerned that it might lead to identification and identify theft, etc.

I remember one of my first fashion purchases was from the line Fashion Formulas, which was excellent. I belileve it was replaced by a more casual Denim & Co. and an upscale Dialogue perfect for business or dressier life. I remember lines like Koos which were "statement" lines in that you stood out if wearing it but in a subtle way. Lines have come and gone and no one knows what lies ahead.

I remember when CVN merged with QVC, and brought to QVC hosts such as Mary Beth and Rick. Change is a part of business, so change will continue.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely..

I just installed one of those Azlett outdoor mats to replace one I had used for years. They were supposed to be the same size but it was too wide. I took one of those shears the Q sells that is supposed to cut everything. It did the trick, so I now have  a new mat installed.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, MAY 21)

Good Morning and thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Lots of memories about the thread.  I know that it had started before I joined, but I remember it was before your first Australia trip.  I thought (of course my memory isn't the best) that you were the one who talked about Sparkpeople, and I joined that back in August 2007.  This is the first on-line "group" that I joined, and remains one of very few.

I remember the brands you mentioned, and I really enjoy our "social" thread.  Despite not meeting you and others in person, I feel very close to you.

I have tried to be somewhat careful in what I post due to the identity theft issue.  But, ID theft is a concern, and the thieves are very good at getting information from innocent postings/sources.

Unfortunately, so many of my accounts have been "compromised" that I have multiple checks going on since several organizations/companies have offered this as a free service due to their error.  This includes my government pension, several stores, health care companies, etc.  I also pay for ID theft monitoring.

I don't remember my first fashion purchase, but I remember buying Fashion Formulas, Denim & Co., etc.  I also purchased a lot of Susan Graver when she first started here.  Long story short, that lead to a wonderful friendship with a lady at work who also purchased her clothing.

My friend Bev has decided to have chemo treatment starting next week.  There is no cure for her cancer, but the doctor said the chemo would provide a 40% chance of longer life.  She will lose her hair and have other symptoms for sure, but hopes that there will not be too many adverse reactions.  Meanwhile, she has found a group of others with cancer, and a source of free wigs/hair coverings when that becomes necessary.  Thanks for all of your prayers and good wishes for Bev.

I had received a Culver's gift certificate (for hospice volunteering) more than a year ago, and Bev and I will use it (plus a little extra) this afternoon.  Perhaps an early dinner or snack.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Have a nice day.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, MAY 21)

Hi Everyone!

It's hot and sunny today with a high of 90 expected! UGH!!!! Yesterday was a tease in the low 80's. I don't fair well in the heat but I know many people enjoy it.

My migraines and colitis have been active this week so I haven't been very productive.  i finally did do the banking yesterday and today hope to get a few groceries. I'm thinking I will just pick up the produce and dairy items and get the other items next week.

I had no idea that this thread had been here as long as it has. I enjoy it and find everyone's information, advice and experiences helpful. I still think we talk ourselves out of more purchases than we make and that's a good thing.

I did order that Bell & Howell light that has the panels on it. (it looks like a mini fan) The hubby saw and was interested. It arrived and was installed in the work room. It's amazing because it lights the entire room. So nice to be able to see in the corners. We're thinking about one for the garage and maybe the attic. I guess we just get acustom to limited lighting in these work type spaces and don't think about it.

Our grandson got engaged yesterday. We'll so happy for the both of them. They've been together for over 5 years. They wanted to focus on getting their jobs/careers established and saving some $.

Have a good afternoon/evening.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, MAY 21)

Good morning almost afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Jean - Thank you for starting us today.  Hope you are feeling well.  Hard to believe about the anniversary of this thread.  I have to admit, I "talk" to you ladies more than I do my "in person friends".   When do you have your Alaska trip planned?  I have to admit Alaska is my favorite place to visit - It is a beautiful place.

Linda - I am keeping your friend Bev in my thoughts, I wish her the best.  How is the weather your way?  We almost hit 90 yesterday, of course it was the day we did all the planting in the yard.

Fressa - Hope you are feeling better soon. Congratulations to your GS.

Off to make some lunch, have a good afternoon everyone.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, MAY 21)

We are having a rare, cloudy day here, Susan.  Yesterday, it was in the 90's, but they are predicting a high of 85 degrees today.  Hope your weather is better today.
