SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, AUG 2)

Good morning, shopping friends. It is a beautiful sunny day, one I am enjoying after a good night's badly needed sleep

I have been watchig the Pre-season all event and did see some things I might have considered if I was not already well supplied. I am definitely using the "need" versus "want" concept as the items air.

I  have been reading all these apocalyptic novels which feature modern man's attempts to survive without conveniences and easily available food. I can remember a Costco mailer which once featured a huge survival supply of food that was shelf stable.

Do you have an emergency plan? Do you have the type of food, water, meds, and clothing appropriate for type of emergency?

In a February several years ago, an ice storm statewide took out electric lines, telephone lines, cell towers, etc. I went a week without heat, or being able to contact anyone other than in the neighborhood. Fortunately, I did have shelf stable food. Some went two weeks, but one week was enough. At that time, this was rarely a problem but many bought  generators afterwards for emergency use.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, AUG 2)

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Jean.  Glad you got some sleep last night.  I slept well, but decided to read a bit before going on my morning walk.  And, it was pretty hot on my walk -- humid and warm/hot.  I should probably wait until I get back from my walk before reading in the future.

I haven't seen any "needs" so far duirng the special programing and like you I am well supplied.  In answer to your question, yes, I have plenty of food , etc. in the house for at least a short-term emergency.  But, I certainly don't like having to go through periods without all the modern conveniences like water, heat/cooling, refrigeration, etc.  I had some experiences with losing power in Maryland -- in the very cold and in the very hot days.  Even after a day, I was extremely stressed, but there were times when it lasted for four or five days.  Fortunately, not a week like in your area.

Yesterdays caregiver activities were good, but went late.  And, then I went to the gym.  I got so hot that I needed another shower when I got home.  The great news is that I got the name of another local company that makes security screen doors.  Some of the ladies said that their prices were good, which would  be great.  So, now I have two more estimates scheduled for next week (Wednesday and Thursday).  If the price is low enough, I may go back to ordering two doors, but we will see.

Nothing exiting planned for the day, but I will definitely be going to the grocery store(s).  I would like to have my hair cut, but I have no idea if my stylist is available.

That was a terrible story about the drunk driver, twinny.  So sad.

Waves to all of our posters and readers.  Hope everyone has a nice day.

Hugs,

Linda

Hello Jean @KonaKat   It's a beautiful day here too.  I cut the front yard and have had my break so I'm off to do the backyard.  I would say that I was really prepared for Y2K Woman Very Happy  These days, not so much.

Oh Linda @LindaLatte   I'm so glad that you are getting referrals to potential door companies.  Word of mouth is sometimes the best way to go.

Linda--You are doing well getting estimates for the door; I am sure that you will make the best decision as to the one that best meets your needs plus is cost effective over the long term.

Bernie--I had forgotten about the fears of Y2K.  Most computers were updated to be compliant, and those souls who went into retreats fearing the end found their fears unwarranted.

[ Edited ]

Here's the funny part Jean @KonaKat   I worked in IT at the time of Y2K.  I might have become concerned about Y2K when I saw the issues that the Y2K team was having with my companies programming. Woman EmbarassedWoman Very Happy

I just made sure I had a few shelves of bottled water (gallons), my car was tanked up and the gas can in the garage was tanked up and that I had cash on hand in case there were a few kinks along the way.  I never felt the world was going to end.

Bernie--Other than the concern about the computers, the thing I remember most were the spectacular displays of fireworks, etc. televised from each time zone as each entered the new year. I also had the car filled with gas but living in a rural area, that is something I try to do most of the time. There isn't 24/7 service with gas locally.
