Good morning, shopping friends. I had one of my length posts about ready to go when said computer decided there was a problem with the web page and closed the tab and then reopened it. I'll not re-create all I had written.
We were on a two-hour delay today and I was called to work a half day. I just wasn't in the mood to venture out in this weather for a half day. In addition, I was in the midst of doing a task which needed to be completed.
I received an email today from Amazon which offered "easy pays" with no interest on selected tablets and e-readers. I've been interested in the Kindle Voyage, so I was very, very tempted. My Kindle is three years old, and I like the features of this version. In the end, I decided that I could save each month the amount of what would have been the monthly payment and then buy it in the summer. Should my current Kindle die, I do have two tablets with the Kindle app, one a 7 inch and one a 10.1 inch, both of which are Samsung Galaxy Tabs which I prefer. The 7 inch is two years old, and the 10.1 is new as it was purchased late last Fall based upon reviews. I absolutely love it! As a result, I can hold off and resist temptation of the Voyage. I am one of those who prefers to read books on an e-reader instead of a tablet.
I just finished having my morning snack of Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt and an apple. I've been trying to be good this week.
Congratulations to Kathleen's daughter on her enlistment in the Navy. The services have many great benefits. For those wanting college in their future, this is a good way to take care of part of those costs. Our special education director's daughter went directly into the Marines upon graduation from high school instead of going directly to college. She is still in the Marines, but has earned two-years of college credit to day and is earning educational benefits to use should she choose to leave the service and attend college. She will be one who will not have a lot of college debt to face later on. I always recommended the service as an option to consider.
Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Jean, what is an e-reader? Are you saying you prefer the actual Kindle to the tablet? Just curious. Thank you for starting us. DD called me so excited this morning. She is leaving in Feb, much sooner than the May date they had originally discussed. We will move her home tomorrow, and she will stay at Mom's and work for a few days or a week, depending on how badly they need her. They have known her plan from the beginning.
I don't have much else to write. Trying to keep up with you ladies. I woke up at 4am hot (left the heat up too high) and came in to work at 6am. Trying to get ahead and leave them in good shape.

Good Morning! Thanks for getting us started Jean. Good job in resisting a purchase that can wait or even be avoided. I am always pleased when I can make those types of choices. I have been listening to the Dave Ramsey radio program from time-to-time, and he certainly makes a great argument for being debt-free and budgeting wisely.
Sorry your weather isn't nice, and you won't be able to work today, but I certainly can understand why you chose not to venture out in the cold just for a few hours. Hope you get your task completed, and good luck with your wise eating campaign. I know you will be successful. Reading your food consumption yesterday I thought it is a good thing I'm not watching my weight. LOL I do try to eat nutritious foods, and avoid junk, etc., but I don't think I could eat soup for lunch without a piece of bread and maybe some cheese or something. Also, I am not big on snacks, even nutritious snacks. I was raised not to eat between meals, and that has stuck with me. I am trying to have an afternoon snack to help with increasing my protein intake and my weight at the same level.
That is interesting about the daughter of your special education director. I know that my second DGS is happy with his decision to join the Army Reserves. I think that many young people are starting to re-think taking on large amounts of debt for college. And, college loan debt seems to be necessary for many whose parents are unable to pay and still provide for themselves and the rest of the family.
Hi Kathleen -- congratulations again to your DD -- what an adventure for her! I am sure you will miss having her nearby, but you are very proud of her. Waves to Arlene (glad your pipes are okay now), twinny (the cost for your Mexico trip sound very reasonable), LindaR, Marijane, Susan, Karen, Rosa, Gayle, and our new and returning posters. Hope you continue to post with our no-bash thread.
The Curves party was fun yesterday, and today I have a potluck luncheon to attend. I will go to Curves later this afternoon. Our weather wasn't very nice yesterday -- rainy and cool (for us), but this is morning it is sunny. And, it should get up to the 60's today, rather than the 50's. I'm happy to see the sun, and I like it warm/hot rather than cool/cold.
I ordered the Sketcher's clogs TSV (after they were a TSV) on waitlist for DD, and she received them yesterday. She really loved them, especially since it was very cold in Maryland. I think they are due for more cold weather today.
Hope everyone has a nice day!
Hugs,
Linda
ETA -- I know you are busy Kathleen. Good for you trying to keep your office in good shape. I tried to do the same when I retired.

Hi Ladies!!! Jean, I like to read on the Kindle as opposed to my Ipad, although I'm not sure why...lol. I enjoy the Progresso soups for lunch, too. They fill me up and are quite satisfying, and the bonus is the calorie count. I would have loved to stay home today...our temps are bone-chilling, not to mention the snow this morning. Snow seems to bring out the worst in drivers.
Kathleen, congrats to you and DD...how exciting!!! My dad is retired from the navy. He was a medic. Loved your red dress. I'm sure you will wear it well!!!
LindaL, I am very envious of your temps, although I do enjoy a little snow!! I enjoyed your photos on FB.
Arlene, I hope you and your furbaby are feeling better.
Twinny, that vacation sounds like a great buy...I love having a trip to look forward to.
Not much going on in my world...my mom is back in rehab (different facility) and doing ok with PT. Hopefully, they will be able to get her back up and walking. She has to see a specialist to try to figure out why she is getting the UTIs. They really mess with her mental status, as well as leaving her very weak. The back and forth is exhausting, but until she is totally settled, I feel like I need to be there. If you could continue to keep her in your prayers...that would be great. Meanwhile, work is getting busy...so, I'd better get moving!!! Enjoy the day.

Kathleen--an e-reader is something like the original Kindle (electronic reader) before it entered the tablet market. E-readers are more specialized, easier to handle and easier on the eyes. You can do things with them that you can't do with a tablet for those that are really into reading big time. Most people who are into reading big time have the Kindle e-reader...examples are the Kindle Paperwhite or Voyage...in addition to a tablet. I have two tablets of different sizes but I enjoy reading my regular Kindle more for a book. You can store far more books on a regular Kindle. The less desired books go to the "cloud." In addition, a regular Kindle can last far longer without being charged.
Linda--I have mixed feelings about Dave Ramsey. He certainly leaned from his personal bankruptcies and poor spending and turned it around. He uses his persona to give information easily found elsewhere. He has made big bucks from FPU which is his right, and if it inspires someone to turn things around, then he has served a purpose. What bothers me is that people don't realize the info he gives is available free instead of FPU, his books, etc. I call him the Financial version of Anthony Robbins. It would be interesting to see him and Suze Orman debate things.
Karen--Those Progresso soups are fabulous and I eat the Light version. A whole can of soup is two servings but at 90 calories a serving I eat the whole can for 180 calories. They are very satisfying. I do hope your mother benefits from the physical therapy in rehab. It is so difficult as an adult child to see a parent struggle. Prayers, indeed!
I've been pulling things out of a big storage bench to see what should go. Out of sight, out of mind, I often forget what I tucked away.

Good afternoon Ladies....the sun is out nice and strong now and about 25 degrees....a big warm up from the past few days......we had about 2 inches of snow this morning which I was surprised to see. I do not read books from my IPad ...I like to hold them in my hand....I think I would get distracted if I heard a ""beep"" or noise from the iPad alerting me to a message and I'd have to go look ....LOL.
Hope the Drs can figure out the problem as to why your Mom keeps getting those infections Karen....I am still keeping all of you in my prayers. I know your busy season is coming up so you must be exhausted too.
Kathleen so happy for your DD and her plans. You must be very excited in all the changes in the coming weeks. The red dress is very nice...is there a special occasion coming up or is it a just in case ... I have something to wear dress.
Twinny your trip sounds great...I did not realize the resort was in Cancun ......we have been there twice in past years...but not to that place.
. not much else going on.....pizza tonight. My cough has just about left me so am thankful for that. We may be in for some more snow in a few days... When is spring??
Have a nice day everyone.......Marijane

Marijane--Isn't it great when the sun decides to grace us with its presence? It make the cold and/or snow more bearable. Pizza sounds great, and it is good that you are getting over the cough. The dress Kathleen selected is very nice; red is one of my favorite colors. I no longer have a dress for "just in case." What I had was too big so I let it go. On the other hand, I can't think of anytime I would need a fancy dress.
As soon as I finish streaming this episode of "Dexter," I'll be enjoying my Kindle time with Midnight cuddling up beside me.
I was just looking at some tour costs compared to last year. Ouch! There have been some hefty increases in price. I think it is good that I'm considering "home on the range."

Jean, for some reason I cannot post today. I don't blame you for not going to school for 1/2 a day. It is cold here today but all schools are two hours late & not closed again. Yhey have been closed for 2 days. We are only allowed 1 snow day, so the rest need to be made up in June.
LoriMI, I forgot about the park 'n fly. We did it 5 years ago & it worked well. Twice we paid the airport fees as our flights were mid morning & we didn't want to kill time in a motel. RKD is so wonderful for us as it is only an hour drive for us & non stop 2 1/2 hours. Hopefully we can all tolerate that short of a flight.
RC, what exciting news about your DD. I hope your new job works out well for you also. You have lots of fun things going on now in your lives.
LL, I am glad that the Curves party yesterday was fun & hope you have fun at your potluck today. Yes, the price is good for our trip. I am looking forward to pampering myself & this resort does well in that category. I can't believe it will be our 45th wedding anniv. The last 13 years have been a true adventure for both of us so we are looking forward to a fun time with some dear friends.
Karen, Yes snow does bring out the worst in drives around here too. It is cold but sunny so the house is warm inside. DH & I did venture out to the hot tub today. It was nice |& we missed going in for the last 2 days. We got 2" of snow yesterday, but DH said there was a drift of about a foot on one side of the hot tub. Nothing on the lid though. Prayers for your mom & you. It is exhausting running back & forth.
Marijane, I think our snow is done with for a few days. It is cold but the sun feels nice. Tomorrow we start our warmup. They say January thaw by next weekend. I like cold weather & snow, but not the bitterly cold temps of late.
DH & I did venture out for groceries this morning. Our good friends are coming this afternoon & we are all heading to the travel agent to take care of our vacation plans for March. Then dinner somewhere nice & cards.

Ordered a pair of Jambu's and they came today! Yay!!!! I love them! I might love them enough to sleep with them on, or maybe next to my pillow. I might have to take them everywhere with me, and not even wear them.

Hi girls! I can't believe it's Friday already, but there are only two more days before the weather is supposed to get back into the 40-50s, and only 70 days until Spring!
My knee is still aching, so I'm trying to not overdo - I'm just doing minor things around the house here and there, but as soon as I'm recovered I'll have to do a big cleaning. (sigh) Jellybean isn't falling over anymore, but he's become quite the snuggler - he's lying atop me right now, and doesn't want to be put down. Well, until the weather warms up a bit, I have no intention of going anywhere.
Jean, I looked at the new Kindle you mentioned, but I'm very happy with my Fire HD. I don't read as much as I probably should on my Kindle, probably because I'm always finding good books at the library, although I do have hundreds of books on the Kindle that I got for free.
I had another run-in with the post office yesterday, and filed another complaint against them. The local PO is so bad that I pay for a PO Box in the next town so I don't have to deal with them. Well, I had ordered something from an Amazon seller, and when I went to look at the tracking saw they had used USPS....and supposedly delivery was attempted twice yesterday. Oh really? When I'm on the laptop I'm on the couch and about three feet from the front door; not only did no one come to the door with a package, but the dogs didn't bark to alert me that the mail truck stopped....and there was no notice in the mailbox amid all the junk mail there. I called the PO and was told they had no record of that tracking number, so I called the USPS number and complained. I spoke to a very nice woman there, and she said the tracking number showed "secure drop-off location not available." She asked if the box was on a rural toad, I told her it not only wasn't, but I've clearly been home, and the carrier could have seen my car in the driveway, but more likely he was too lazy to get out of his warm truck and walk to the door. I finally got the package today; I wish they'd close that PO down - it's one of the worst I've ever dealt with. (Tied with Kailua-Kona for first place.) It's not surprising the USPS is losing business; when they get lazy, incompetent employees it's almost impossible to get rid of them because of the union.
Jean, I haven't heard about any Easy Pays from Amazon, but do see that a number of products are being listed at a far lower price that normal as a special for Prime members. For example, certain flavors of the Stevia soda that I drink are $11 vs. $21, and when I was looking at baby gates to keep the dogs from going upstairs, they had the top selling one for only $10 for Prime members.
Hope your mom improves, Karen - I know it's not easy on you either.
LindaL, hope your potluck was fun. I really enjoy them, but my church isn't the type that does things like that. I'm looking for a Wednesday night fellowship that does; there are two I want to try - one that my pool guy goes to (and I really do enjoy my theological discussions with him), and one where the internet technician is a deacon. Both are into Bible prophecy, so who knows - I may end up alternating between them.
Well, guess I'll get back to snuggling up with my critters and books and trying to stay warm. Have a blessed day, everyone!
