SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Good morning, shopping friends. I was to have worked today but the roads have been turned into skating rinks with wrecks all over from the unexpected icing in early morning hours. I was looking forward to today as the assignment was good, plus the fact I would have gotten my paycheck today. This is the one I don't do direct deposit on as I like to have some cash on hand without going to an ATM to get the money. I usually split it into part deposit and part cash back.

I've been up since 5 am so it will be a long day. We are expecting another snow to hit Sunday into Monday. I have specialists’ appointments in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday which will require me to travel over less than desirable roads. I live in an area of serpentine roads where you meet yourself in turns. I'm considering calling and rescheduling even if it means I can't get an appointment until Spring. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll wait until Monday to make the decision but I don't want to wait later than that and have to pay the fee for a missed appointment. The negative about this is that both appointments were very important at this time.

I've seen the TSV presented. I have the shrug version of it, and despite liking it, I have yet to wear it. I got it to keep warm in the house if needed but I keep using a 35Degrees Below Shawl as it is great and doesn't have the fringes. I got the shawl version of the TSV from the "as is" category and there is nothing wrong with it. I guess it sounded better than it was for me despite the great reviews.

This will be another super long day. I'm not really in the mood to work around the house. I've got the winter blahs so motivation is lacking right now. I guess I'll finish a book I'm reading on the Kindle and then force myself to do something. Since I've lost a day of pay because of school closing, I definitely won't be shopping.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Jean, I'm sorry you got up early & there is no school today. It is stressful to have appointments & not know if you can make them. It is sunny today. We might get a little snow on Sunday. No shopping today for me except groceries. A young couple from our church had a baby last Saturday. DH & I are getting a special made pizza for them for dinner tonight. They live about 15 miles away, so we will have dinner at one of the local cafes. Nothing else going on today either. Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Good morning Ladies.....sorry about the school closing today Jean. maybe you won't get the snow predicted for Sunday and the roads will be ok for your appointments. We were supposed to only get a "dusting" overnight but it's been coming down at a pretty good clip for hours....I think the schools had regular hours. We are supposed to be getting a bigger storm Sunday into Monday.....the temps will be going down to single numbers next few days. We just started to get mail delivery yesterday...none M-W...whatever happened to the Rain, sleet, snow etc from the postal system.....our mailbox area is cleared so no problems with his little mail truck getting to our box.

Nice of you Twinny in having a pizza made for that couple. I am sure they will appreciate it!

Not much here...I had plans on going out this morning but with the snow coming down now I doubt it. Everyone knows if a flake falls on the road I don't drive! Guess I Am a big chicken but it scares me . have a nice day everyone........Marijane

PS Arlene....how did your cake come out?

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Sorry about your lack of work, and delay in paycheck Jean. Hope those medical appointments work out, but I can certainly understand. I can also relate to your comments about driving in the snow and ice Marijane. I really dreaded driving in those conditions. Nice to avoid that here in southern Arizona.

I had purchased a previous version of the shrug via eBay, and I have worn it a few times. The last time I did, a lady complimented me on it. I don't think I'd like dealing with the fringe in the house since I seem to always be doing something like cooking, cleaning, etc., but wearing it out has worked well. However, the TSV today is not calling my name -- thank goodness. I like it, but it isn't difficult to talk myself out of it since it is so not needed.

Very kind of you to get that pizza, twinny, and I'm sure the couple will appreciate it very much. Enjoy your dinner.

Hi Marijane -- that is bad about the lack of mail delivery. Even if it is just bills and throw away stuff, I like to have regular deliveries. I try to mail cards, etc., early since mail delivery has slowed around here -- first class mail takes at least two days now since they closed down the local sorting center, etc. I really don't like birthday cards, etc., to reach the recipient after the day.

I am curious about that cake as well -- how did it go Arlene?

Waves to Kathleen, Arlene, Rosa, Susan, LindaR, Karen, and all of our posters and readers.

DH and I have a free movie to attend this afternoon -- "Jersey Boys", and I plan to go to Curves this morning. We are having rain today and they are predicting more rain for tomorrow. And, our temperatures are cooler (highs of 60 degrees or so), but I'm not complaining.

DGD has her first Spanish class at the community college (for home schooled kids) this afternoon -- hope the weather doesn't interfere, and she enjoys it. DD said that no used books were available at the community college for middle DGS -- not good, but..... At least he has his books now.

Hope everyone has a nice day and stays safe if the weather is bad.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Good morning! Freezing cold with high winds, not pleasant.

Our boss is in Jamaca for 2 weeks but mailed the office staff a gift card to Panera Bread, we had breakfast from there this morning. A nice surprise!

Not too much going on today, just trying to stay warm.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Jean - Thank you for starting us today, sorry about no school, we had a 2 or 3 hour delay today. I was just out on the roads and they are good here, they have done a wonderful job in our area with the roads. Hope you can get to your appt. next week. I was watching the news and we are supposed to hit 50 in early February. I hope so, my car needs washed something terrible.

I need to get my decluttering motivation going also, maybe I will find it this afternoon.

Twinny - That is nice of you and DH getting the couple a pizza, I am sure they will appreciate it.

Mari Jane - Glad you are getting the mail back, I don't think ours has cancelled service before, not sure about the storm of 93, I was too busy shoveling then.

LindaL - Jersey Boys is a good movie, I think you and DH will enjoy it. The music is very good.

Not much going on here today, yesterday was above freezing and no wind, today is 20's with a nice wind chill factor, I think I am ready for Spring to arrive. I ordered two flowers from Cottage Gardens, I usually order their sun patients for my flower containers by the pool, this year I am trying the self dead heading petunias, they were in the most beautiful read colors. We will see how that goes this year.

Well off to get some caffeine and try to do something constructive, I am down to my last load of wash and that will be done. Have a good afternoon everyone, stay warm.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Twinny--I was one of 17 cars involved in a black ice pile up once, so I get very uncomfortable about driving in these conditions. There was no steering yourself out of the situation as there were cars all over. It also happened without much warning as we can have perfectly fine areas but a few miles away, it can be a different story.

Rosa--It was nice of your boss to think of his staff and treat you to Panera Bread thanks to a gift card.

Linda--Enjoy "Jersey Boys." I wanted to see it when it was in the theater but was unable to do so. I do hope the weather doesn't interfere with your DGD's class. Yes, you are in a great area where you don't have to worry about the problems of winter driving, but there may be another negative....but I'm having problems thinking of one.

Marijane--I know exactly how you feel about driving in snow. You can control what you do most of the time but you can't control the actions of others combined with the problems of slick roads. Sorry you aren't getting your mail. I have to go to town to get mine as we don't have house delivery in town, so whatever is there can sit there until the driving is more safe.

I finished a book I was reading and talked with a friend in the city. Several streets have been closed there because of conditions and wrecks.

I just had lunch and am watching SG on the Noon show after checking the news and weather. I like A260349, the cardigan and square neck tank set. I do wish some of these sets had short sleeves instead of a tank as I can't wear a tank by itself.

Not looking good for Susan with possibility of 6 inches. It is bad when the weather forecast for other areas near you show up in your FB news feed.

I'm now watching a Netflix presentation. I am very determined to end this month without a 'want"" purchase. I haven't set foot in WalMart for groceries since December 31.I need some caffeine free soda but I will endure until next month. It is a habit that can be modified.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Hello friends! I miss all my buddies. My job is a lot more paperwork and a lot less dispatching than I expected but I am acclimating. I caught a nasty cold so have been a bit miserable at night and irritated with DH (poor guy). A little lonesome for being around people who love me. I guess all part of change. I've been slowly changing and documenting all our passwords, and addresses, and in the process locked myself out of email. So if you are expecting an email from me, it will likely take a while! DDs are headed to the coat together so we are alone this weekend. It is supposed to be cold and rainy tomorrow. The weather has been absolutely perfect and I've loved wearing my dresses everyday except today is jeans day. Whooohooo! That's all for now, will try to check in more from home with the laptop, no patience for that or posting with my phone. Pthttttt! Hugs to all!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/30)

Marijane, better to be safe than sorry. I don't mind snow so much, but ice scares me. Then again we live in town. LL, have fun at the movie today. I hope your DGD likes her Spanish class. Rosa, how nice of your boss. Jamaica is fun. Susan, I have never tried CG flowers, but they always look so nice. RC, sorry you are under the weather. Our weather has been so nice, but we might get snow on Sunday. Then cold weather as February comes along.
