SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Good morning, shopping friends. I awakened to a temperature of one below when the State sent a text notifying me our school system was closed because of the cold. Because so many students have to stand out waiting for busses, it is not a good situation for them. We have to make up all days missed, so I'd rather work when the weather is good than the way it is now.

I did like the Travelon bag shown this morning for casual and travel use. I don't really need it, however. I do like the TSV but I have enough cosmetics. The bottom line is that not buying gets as habit forming as buying. I can still shop and use what I have out of my current collection until I need to replenish, or to size down with some tops.

We have a weekend that is to be a repeat of last night's and this morning's early temperatures, with Sunday night predicted to be lower. I have to leave early Monday morning for the city for a CAT scan in the morning, followed by cardiologist appointment in the afternoon. I'm really looking forward to drinking that barium stuff.

I'll likely start another book today and rotate relaxing with it with that of getting another container ready for donation when I go to the city on Monday. I was going to weigh in this morning but forgot and had breakfast, so I'll try to remember to do the official weigh in on Sunday.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Good morning Ladies.....cold here too..wind chill brings it down to10 below..sunny out though. We are expecting several inches of snow tomorrow afternoon into Sunday. Our schools had the day off Jean not sure why but I think it's to give them a long weekend because they have Monday off too. They used to get the whole week for winter break but the past few years they have been using so many snow days and going until the end of June to make it up they decided to just cut the winter break. I know a lot of people aren't happy about that but...

I have no plans today except to run over to the store to pick up a few things.Yesterday I filled 2 bags for Goodwill with winter clothes I have yet to wear this year and I figure I won't so out they go. I will drop them off on the way to the store.

. I also have enough make-up and brushes so no need for the SV. That's all from here...have a nice day everyone....stay warm.! Hope you are feeling better Kathleen! Marijane .

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Marijane--Good job on getting those items ready for donation. I have some in the trunk of the car, and am starting another big container. I use the containers in which dozens of eggs are shipped as they have cut outs on the side to grip which makes it easier to carry.

We also have to make up any days missed. We started school the first week of August to help get all the days in. Right now, we have a week out of the school calendar for Spring break. If they don't change that, we will be going into June.

I'm streaming stuff from Netflix as I go through more paperwork. That 15 minutes of task dedication works well for me as I loose my motivation fast if I have to spend an hour on mundane things.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Good Morning! Those temperatures sound dreadful to me Jean and Marijane. Hope everyone in the cold zone stay safe. It is a bit cool this morning, but probably warmer than your high temperatures for the day (in the 40's when I woke up.) It shouldn't be as windy here today, which is a good thing. Yesterday, flowers and leaves from the trees were blowing into the senior center where I had "classes". I spent some time sweeping up the mess, but everytime the door open my work was undone. Oh well.... My classes were good by the way.

In answer to Arlene -- my classes are through something called Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (which we call OLLI). There are OLLI classes all over the country, and all are associated with a college or university (in my case the University of Arizona). Not sure if they have any OLLI classes in your area, and each OLLI works a bit differently. Mine does not have a "campus", so we have our "classes" at a lot of different locations. Some are at the senior center, others at banks, churches, etc. You need to be over 50 to belong to OLLI. Of course, that is no problem for me. LOL In Maryland, I took "adult education" classes through the county, and there were no age restrictions.

Hope you don't have any problems with getting to your tests on Monday Jean, and drinking that barium stuff isn't too difficult. I am sure it is not pleasant, but..... Good for you with wise shopping, and continuing with your de-cluttering, etc. Also good for you Marijane. Hope going to the store is okay -- do bundle up as my DH would say. It was so windy on our walk yesterday that he was complaining.

Waves to Kathleen (hope you are feeling better today), Arlene, twinny (I have fallen due to uneven sidewalks as well -- what a mess I was after that. Hope your DH is doing better), Rosa, pinky ann, Susan, LindaR, Karen, and all of our posters and readers.

DD's car repairs ended up being $800 plus -- not good, but.....

No big plans here, but I will be going for a walk and to Curves. I am on a big floor-cleaning kick right now, and I took up the dining room rug. I am thinking about taking it out and replacing it with a smaller rug in the storage room or even just doing without a rug. Decisions, decisions.

Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Good Morning Ladies!

I'm glad I haven't been sitting around much today, as it seems everyone is keeping busy. We're in the same frigid cold as everyone else, but only expect 1-3 inches of snow. We got an inch last time, so I hope that forecast is right.

I don't know how to post a link, but thought this letter to "Stuff", was so neat, I wanted to post the info so you could read it if you'd like. Very enjoyable! Here's the link info, http://onmymind.areavoices.com/2010/10/goodbye-stuff/

I feel we are " just right" or " right sized" now, so aside from the things set aside and ready to go in the fall, nothing much else is going anywhere. I looked at hampers in the store as well as online yesterday, and was inspired. I had seen a lot with an open lid, and some looking like just a large basket. You know where this is going.....

I had a great sized, lined basket from Pier One for many years now, that was used as storage. I decided to use that as a clothes hamper, as it will be out of sight, can be easily carried with two sturdy handles, and is the perfect size for where it will be used, and how much it can hold. I think this is going to work well, and I'm thrilled not to bring "stuff" in, that isn't necessary. I'm definitely open to purchases. But I don't want to be spending on things that I can work with that we already have, and it let's me keep the house feeling light. Just the way I like it! pinky

Pinky--That letter is excellent. Thank you for sharing. I shared it to Facebook. Your Pier One basket sounds like a winner, being able to serve you well throughout the years.

Linda--I think the weather will be acceptable but just extremely cold. At least, it doesn't seem to have snow associated with it. I'll manage the barium stuff as it has to be done.

As soon as I finish my lunch and coffee, I'll be departing for the usual Kindle break.

Jean, I'm glad you liked the letter and were able to share it. I think it really will speak to lots of folks wanting to pare down. Have fun with the Kindle. It's my rest time too, but I'll be watching whatever I dvr'd from tv last night. If I read and lie down, I'll be asleep! lol pinky

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Hi girls! It's a bright sunny day, but COLD - only 30° out. I got my vacuum cleaner put back together and did a quick vacuuming a little while ago; I'll do a more thorough job later, but just couldn't stand looking at the fur and stuff in the living room any longer. I'm leaving in a bit to take my car in for an oil change and have the vibration checked - I suspect the wheels are out of alignment. Last night I made some red velvet cupcakes for my mechanic and also the friend who does the odd jobs for me; the latter is also getting some sugar free whoopie pies for his wife, who is diabetic. My leg is back to hurting; I guess several hours of standing while I baked - on top of making a half dozen trips up and down the stairs - was too much, too soon.

I just about bought out what was left of the cat food that's on sale at Tractor Supply, but they're getting a truck in on Tuesday, so I want to get a few more cases. The dogs were very, very, VERY bad yesterday, so I'll be happy to go out without them today - since the guys will be working on my car, I can't leave them in there. When I went into the post office Angelica found the bag of Beggin Strips that I had hidden, and ate the entire thing. I took her into Tractor Supply with me, where she peed on the floor, then I got back to the car to find that Autumn had torn her leash to bits, so she didn't get a pig ear treat and was yelled at all the way home - that leash hadn't been used more than 2-3 times! {#emotions_dlg.mad} I made a quick trip into the library, and while I was in there Angelica found the pig ear that I set aside and - since she's obviously being starved to death (as evidenced by the fact that she's starting to get chubby and needs to be put on a diet) - decided to chew thorough the package to get at it. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} Honeybun was the only one behaving; I need a break from them. I ordered another chain leash - that's one that they won't be able to destroy.

LindaL, I'll have to look into that program. The local community college lets people over a certain age take classes for free if there are any spaces available (you never know for sure until the day that classes actually start), but I think I'm too young to participate.

Jean, I did do a search on Amazon and got two free books, thanks.

Guess I'd better get going; I need to be home from the mechanic before Victor comes by to pick up his goodies; I'm hoping he's in the mood to fix my super-duper heavy duty pet vacuum cleaner which has been sitting in the garage. Someone from church had "fixed" it, but it's not picking up like it should. I had to get up and move the car to the end of the driveway before I let the dogs out earlier; otherwise they jump in the second the door is open. I know as I drive off I'll get the, "Mom! Come back - you forgot us!" look as they bark at me to let me know I have to take them with me, but, that's the breaks! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

Good afternoon, looking out my window it sunny outsside though it is freezing. Looks can be decieving. Saturday we may have light snow, next week though for Tues and Wed wintery mix. We tend to get more ice here than snow as a rule. I do not like either one.

When I get home I need to pack as M is picking me up at 8am for breakfast and to start our little trip. Can't wait! I love to pack, I hate to unpack and will put it off. In my mind unpacking means the fun is over, but it must be done. That is why I love to pack, fun is ahead!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (FRIDAY, 1/13)

I just lost my post. Jean, I am sorry you had another snow day, but it will be more fun driving when the weather gets warmer. Good luck with the barium=YUCK, but a necessary thing in life sometimes. Your 15 minute decluttering job sounds like it has been working fine for you. I am always amazed at what I can accomplish when a TV ad is on.

LL, I am glad that your classes were good yesterday. It sounds funny to hear people talk about sweeping up flowers this time of the year that blew in the door. I usually wash the kitchen floor each week as I make a mess cooking & eating.

pinky ann, my favorite basket is one that I bought in Branson at least 10 years ago. It is nice wicker & I use it for my laundry basket. Our home is "right size" too. We are all one level with a full basement though.

Marijane, It sounds like you are getting cold weather too, but not too much snow. It is a good time to declutter though. It sounds like you have been doing a good job with it.

FHG, Yes, your dogs were naughty yesterday. It sounds like you did get a good bargain on their food though. Hopefully your car repair isn't too expensive, & I am sure the mechanic will enjoy the goodies. Today when DH & I were in the grocery store, I saw those donuts that you mentioned the other day. They were 6 for $4.00 & 4 flavors, but now I can't remember the name of them as they have a weird name. We can't eat them so I don't usually look at the sweets but they were right out in plain sight.

Rosa, Have a fun weekend. I like packing too, but not the unpacking as we always bring more things home than we took with us.

Part two will follow.
