SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Good morning friends!! I love the Christmas season but it seems that no matter what happens, people find a reason to complain. I like to have a party at work but I always have to ask myself "is it worth it" because each different thing we try, there are always complaints. It kind of steals the joy out of it for me.

Last night we had a good time at the party. One of DH's guys is pretty funny and we sat with him and I giggled through dinner. DH's boss and wife were also at our table so I'm glad I had some comic relief. They were very nice but it was a little uncomfortable. He referred to us as the people who "live in a camper". {#emotions_dlg.laugh} I guess it's true, right. If the shoe fits! The other woman at our table had organized the party.

They gave away some fantastic gifts and we won a couple great DVD's. Then we all got game cards, and played a couple games. DH and I sat at the bar and I got my dessert, cheesecake, and then we had fun picking out who to give our mostly unused game card to before we left.

I was an hour late to work because I missed my toll road exit, and quickly realized that Austin rush hour traffic was too much for me. I got off the interstate and made a beeline for the toll road and we were back on track.

There is much to do at work today. Jean I hope your tests all come out well. Linda I'm glad you are getting some DD and Gkid time. Hope the weather isn't too cold and yuck for you. Rosa I wish I could stop by for dinner! Smiley Happy Susan I'm glad you have some meds to help with pain. I do understand about not liking them. I always wonder how the Pioneer folks did it, guess they were just in pain. and died, right?

What is everyone up to? What is for supper?

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Rosa: Your Christmas Eve sounds lovely. Growing up the tradition was we would go to services and come home to open our gifts. Never up early on Christmas Day---in my family---although we did go to services on Christmas Day.

Kathleen: Oh the couple that lives in the camper!!!! Nothing wrong with that!!

Oh LOL about the complainers. I find that everywhere--some folks just complaiin! Others just jump in and work. Last night it was the ladies group turn to host for soup supper before Advent services. I brought the bread---I had said I would---and the lady who was to bring the crackers forgot. I happened to have some in the vehicle---so I went out to get them. Another snafu with the drinks---but that was resolved. Speaking of complaining---I complained a bit last night--folks just sitting there---with their dirty dishes and we were trying to wipe the tables down. Made a number of trips to the trash can. But I also noticed that when the men are in charge things don't get done---unless the ladies step in---tables aren't wiped down, etc. Last week we had the ladies/men's group event. The men were responsible for the ham. I walked in to see one of the fellas sitting in a chair in front of the oven. When I got closer I saw another fella also watching the ham in the oven---Well, they sliced the ham and left the dirty slicer for the ladies to clean up---they had vanished into thin air. The men do fish fry fundraisers from time to time. Without the ladies doing the bulk of the work (not frying the fish) but everything else---it would be a bust. Okay time to get off my soap box.

Susan: I don't like to take meds unless absolutely necessary either--hope you are getting some relief.

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Good afternoon, cold but sunny here.

Pretty busy here today.

Lots of people coming in to take care of buisness before the Holidays'.

I still need to wrap presents, tonight I have Zumba maybe after I will finish up.

Not much to report, my friend is going to change the oil in my car this weekend and I will fix dinner. We may go look at Christmas lights but other than that I do not have any big plans.

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

RC, Your party last night sounded like fun. Your "camper" story reminds me of when DH & I purchased our previous vehicle & DH said it had to be 6' from the front seat to the rear of the Kia as we would be sleeping it. The salesman said "What, are you two a couple of gypsies?" Then he apologized to us. Yes, there is always somebody that has to complain about something. It is usually the person that does NOTHING.

Linda R, Watching the ham in the oven is funny. We have a very small church so when we do have potluck dinners each month, usually the youth take care of dishes & cleanup so the adults can visit. Most of them come from large families, so apparently they are used to helping like that at home.

Rosa, Your Christmas Eve dinner sounds lovely. I am sure you are busy with year end insurance needs too. I just ordered all of the meds that I can get before our new drug insurance takes over next month. One only hopes that things don't change for the worst. It is nice that your friend can change the oil for you. One less thing to take the car in for.

Today is kind of a bittersweet day for me. My dad passed away 23 years ago today. At the time I didn't think 70 was young as I was only 43. Now it seems very young to me. It came very unexpectedly & I was a nervous wreck as both of our DC were at the U of WI & had to go back for final exams the night of his funeral.

Today I finished decorating the house & DH & I are setting the tree up so we can decorate it tomorrow. I like to set it up one day & decorate it the next day. The tree is 13 y/o & it was my first purchase from QVC. David V. sold it to me. Christmas Eve lunch will be here so I have lots of things to do in a short amount of time.

DH & I went to our other DGS's band concert on Tuesday night. It was nice for a beginning concert. We stayed overnight. I did finish my Christmas shopping yesterday so that makes me very happy. Now I just need to wrap things & get a couple of gift cards. The hard part is over. I bought a pair of cute boots & also slippers at DSW. Needed the slippers but not the boots, but with a $20 coupon & a few $$$ on my gift card yet, I couldn't resist. I am having fun right now. It makes up for the 9 weeks of eye drop struggles. Mom still cannot see anything except she can recognize faces. No reading or TV yet. Hopefully things will improve some more for her.

It is sunny today & should be upper 40's by Saturday into next week. Yesterday was cloudy all day.

The oil man came this morning, so hopefully we will be good for another year. Oil is very cheap now so we had it filled up earlier than usual.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Hi girls!

Well, after the technician from the ISP was here for several hours and replaced the router, moving it to the living room where I usually use the laptop, I'm back to being totally frustrated and have to call them again - like I have nothing else to do but sit around the house and wait for a service person! Last night I was watching a show on my Kindle, and it kept buffering; when I went to use the laptop it had "limited" connectivity, and my speed - which is supposed to be between 50-100 Mbps-was down to 7 Mbps. I am NOT a happy camper! {#emotions_dlg.mad} Basically, I'm paying a premium rate for dial-up speed! My only other option is Comcast, but I got rid of them because of major problems. (Linda's not the only one on a soapbox today, lol!)

It's bright and sunny out; I never did make it to the PO yesterday, but need to go today. My BFF's brother's memorial service is today, and I know she'll need cheering up, so I have to get a package I have for her in the mail. I also have to pick up a few things from Aldi that they were out of last time. The money sure does go fast, doesn't it? {#emotions_dlg.crying} Last night I went to Publix, as they have a few things I can't find elsewhere and also a couple of sale items I wanted, and I was astonished to see how high some prices have gotten: $13 for a pound of roast beef? Not gonna happen... I spent $70, and have little to show for it.

Angelica has been anything but angelic...yesterday she chewed up the orthopedic dog bed. I told her that's fine - she can now sleep on the hard floor! That's the second dog bed she's ruined.

Twinny - look at the bright side: not everyone has a father whose memory they cherish; you're blessed to have had a good dad. Think about all the good memories - and being with him again some day.

Well, I guess I'd better get moving - time has a way of getting away from from. Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Hello All,

I have missed posting on a more regular basis. I think of getting on this thread kind of like my morning coffee...it feels off when it is skipped.

Almost everyone in my life whether it be family or close friend is either dealing with a medical issue and/or crisis. That has put everything front burner and the holiday requirements are more or less pushed to the side. We had already simplified our holiday celebrating and now I am really grateful for that.

Last spring I signed up for an American Greetings account so I could send e cards. The cost was minimal, you can attach a gift card if you so choose etc. I wasn't sure if it was a service I would enjoy using but many of my friends/family have enjoyed it and it saves on postage plus the fact that I am not spending money on a traditional card. I am sending a few Christmas cards that was as well.

Not much new here. I did finish buying my husband a few stocking stuffers. My mother quiltidc me a nice Christmas table topper and I put a Christmas throw on the sofa. Those 2 things may be the extent of my decorating, still deciding.

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Gayle, it is nice to cut back when things aren't so "happy". I know my friends tell me how happy DH and I look in our pictures, and we are, we just really miss each other when we are not together. It has been wearing me thin.

I have to admit, I don't know what I'm going to write in the Holiday letter this year. I looked for some good family photos and couldn't find any with all of us in them. It has not been a storybook year this year. And I'm not one to gloss things over too much.

I am getting tired now, and really wanted to get to the grocery store tonight. I don't think it is going to happen.

Twinny, I bought my purple cowboy boots today on Amazon. We'll see if I can get them on, and if they are keepers I will have to tell DH to wrap them, or something. I'm glad you had a good time at the concert. How is Mom passing the time with no reading or TV?

Linda that is hilarious, watching the ham. We joke when our guys brought food it was all meat, and when we brought food it was all desserts. lol

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

Gosh, I just lost my post. User error as usual. I find it very cool/cold here, but I know it really isn't that bad. I got very little sleep last night, and I was cold. I will ask for another blanket for tonight. I am meeting my SIL, nephew, and his wife for dinner tonight, and DD and I went out for lunch. It was very nice. DD has shown me a number of things on the cell phone, and it is very interesting. I think I picked the wrong phone plan, and I may contact Verizon to see if I can change it before the two years are up. I have lots of data, but don't use much. And, I have no texting and limited calling. Oh well..... Waves to Kathleen -- glad you made it to work, despite the traffic, and had a pretty nice time at the party. Nice that your friend can change the oil in your car Rosa. Enjoy Zumba. It is a pretty funny image --- men watching the ham cook LindaR. Sorry you and the other ladies ended up with all the clean-up work. Also sorry about the dog bed, and your internet issues Arlene. I am very sensitive to grocery store price increases -- not fun. Wave to Jean, Susan, Marijane, Gayle, Karen, and all of our posters and readers. I still need to pick up a few more gifts, but I have some in hand and others on order from Amazon. Sleep well everyone! Hugs, Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLIC FRIENDS THURS ODAT!

FHG, Yes I am lucky to have great childhood memories as was my DH. I know mom really wanted to go meet dad when she had such serious eye issues, but the Lord has other ideas for her. Christmas time is always sad for her.

RC, My new boots are not real tall & they are black. They have a side zipper with a few sparkles. My DGD (9 y/o) has a similar pair & really liked them. Mom keeps busy with the radio mostly. We take her out a little, but it is difficult when she can't see where she is going & doesn't like to use her cane. Next week I will be taking her to several eye appts.

LL, It sounds like you are having fun with your DD. Hopefully the weather will be good as I know you like the warm weather. My Christmas gifts are all bought so now the wrapping must soon begin.

Gayle, I don't do a lot of decorating either but I do like the snow owls that I bought from QVC last year. I dress them up with clear lights & a white feather boa. Prayers for your family & friends dealing with issues right now. I changed my Christmas decorating theme last year so now I have a nice white owl as my tree topper & smaller owls peeking out etc. I got tired of the same old same old for probably 20 years. That Christmas table topper sounds very pretty. I always think about doing that with my dining room table, but so far it is just a thought. It always looks like simple elegance.
