Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

[ Edited ]

Sorry you can't make it to the wedding, Claudia.  But, I certainly understand.  My longest friend's son had a "destination" wedding around New Year's Eve one year, and I just could not justify spending the $$$.  We certainly enjoyed her DD's wedding a few years before, but it was in Maryland.

Hope your weather was nice today.  It has been cloudy and cool all day here -- high only in the mid 60's.  There is even a chance of showers.  Really different than in your area, Barbara. It is supposed to make it up to 80 degrees tomorrow.

Hope you enjoyed the sun and pool.  Glad PT is helping so much.  It is a shame V won't try it, but at least V and R agreed to get the COVID vaccine.  It seems like more men than women have decided not to get it -- not macho or whatever.  Perhaps that is more common among younger men.

Like you, I am concerned about Jean's health.  Yesterday, she said that subbing was good, but exhausting, and she was concerned that her gastric reflux disease was returning.  I know her Alaska trip is coming up fairly soon, and I hope she is feeling okay by then.

The contractor DD contacted a couple of weeks ago has not come by the house yet, so she found another possible contractor who came by this morning.  He promised to come back with "numbers" by early next week (I think).  She needs a door replaced (basement door) plus some painting done.  Not sure what else.  Meanwhile, she has an electrician coming on Friday to replace one of her ceiling fans that is "sizzling".  She is concerned there is an electrical problem.  Anyway, she bought a new fan, and he will put it in.  He may also replace a light that isn't working.

DGD saw the nutritionist/dietitian, and they were headed out to buy a personal blender and some ingredients since she is having trouble keeping her food down.

I didn't realize it, but DGD's side gig (restoring stuffed animals and dolls, etc.) is non-profit since she just covers expenses and gives the rest to St. Judes.  That is nice of her to do.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

Barbara, I'm glad your walking has improved. I drove R to the local bike/hike trail early afternoon and dropped him off where it was in the open (Where it begins is along the creek and wooded. Lately there have been reports of drugs and possible assaults).  I picked him up about a mile further near a former train station now restaurant. He said he only had to stop once.

We had a storm warning but so far we only had rain late afternoon.

If we haven't heard back from the 3rd contractor by tomorrow we'll go with the Amish one and maybe put the roof off till next spring.

Btw when I went with R to the range yesterday we drove by his buddy's house. The roof is definitely a deep green and is only over the house not the attached 3 bay garage.

If numbers weren't limited we'd attend my nephew's wedding, Linda. R was willing to get the vaccine but says it's silly he still needs to wear a mask.

I hope Jean can enjoy her trip and not have to deal with gastric reflux. I know how miserable that can be. R is still having problems being off his one medication and only taking pelvic. Next week he has his yearly checkup at the clinic and I plan to ask if he might be able to go back on it even though the vascular surgeon took him off it when he prescribed the circulatory med.

Replacing the ceiling fan sounds like a good idea. Like your DD I wouldn't like the "sizzling" sound. I'm sorry your DGD is having trouble keeping food down. It's good of her to donate to St. Jude.

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

It is almost noon. I have my iron infusion this afternoon. It should be the last one, I hope.

I practiced walking on the rocks with my cane. I have to be careful, but it went fine. My pt gave me some suggestions on how to maneuver rocks.

Yikes..this font is big. And I could.

M found Pepper chewing on a dead squirrel this morning.she called her vet and said that it was probably dropped by a bird of prey.,arghhh

Linda..dd is smart to get that fan fixed.I listened to them2 singers that yiu like the other day and they were very entertaining. I will watch them again.

Claudia..meant to mention that I understand about choice in not going to your nieces wedding. We passed n a destination wedding for the same reason..hope all is well with you.,

have a good day.🌵🌵

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

I am happy R was able to walk with not too much trouble, Claudia.  Hope your weather is okay.

Glad you are finishing up on those iron infusions, Barbara.  Good that you think you can handle walking on the stones.  That is great that you listened to Diane and Lisa.  I find them very entertaining, and the timing is good for me -- usually while I'm having lunch.  I don't usually sit through the whole concert looking at the screen, but I put it on my tablet so that I can hear it while I walk around and do other things.  They are such nice people and thrilled to have an audience.

That is yucky about Pepper and the dead squirrel.  Louis had a story about his dogs getting tangled with a ground hog or something.  What a mess -- there was a lot of blood involved, but apparently it wasn't from his dogs.

I am back from the grocery stores and my hospice deliveries.  I think I will take a walk before working on the letters.  My audiologist left a voice message, and I have an appointment to pick up my hearing aid next Wednesday.

It sounds like the nutritionist/dietitian DGD saw was very good.  She gave her all sorts of advice on what and when to eat, and DD said that so far she was able to keep her food down.  While the nutritionist doesn't think she has IBS, the diet is one that is often used for those patients.  Fingers crossed that it helps.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

Yay, it's the final iron infusion, Barbara. I'm glad you practiced walking on the stones with your cane and got some tips on doing it.

Pepper probably thought the squirrel a gift from the heavens. I'm glad M could get her away from it.

I read Louis' story on his blog 4 sections I think. Scotties are very determined. Hopefully that ground hog will keep well away from the property. It's good he had an emergency vet nearby.

Linda, I'm glad your DGD has been able to keep food down. You'll certainly be happy to pick up the hearing aid next week.

I talked it over with R. We (gulp) decided to go with the Amish contractor even though it's costly. The porches especially must be done. We want a quality job and not one done with cheap materials. We're looking at it being started in September. I just hope prices don't increase further.

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

Goox afternoon..I am not too dizzy. I plan on going to the pool a little later this afternoon. It is pretty warm, but I just stay I. The pool .  I

I have started a new knitting project. .it looks pretty easy with a lace inset in the middle.

Linda..I hope the nutrtionist's plan works for dgd. I did not realize that she was having digestive issues. I hope the new way of eating works for her. She surely has had her share of problems.

Claudia..the Amish do such beautiful work. I am sure that the porches will be exquisite.Hope R is doing well today. V has been more active the past few days.

enjoy the rest of the day.🌵🌵

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

I am glad you and R have decided on the contractor, Claudia.  It might be expensive, but it is worth it to pay more if the quality of materials and work is better.

DD had the electrician come today, and he replaced the fan (she is very happy with the new one), and repaired an outside light that wasn't working (apparently there was a short in the wire).  She asked if he knew any handymen who might be able to replace the door and paint the trim on the house.  His helper spoke up to say that he does that type of work.

Anyway, he is an older man, and only works for people he likes, etc.  And, the electrician said he does great work for a reasonable price.  He quoted a very good price for replacing the basement door, and said he would give her a price for the painting once he got back from visiting his DGD who is in St. Jude's this weekend.  What a coincidence.  Anyway, DD will buy the door, lock set, and paint for the door (he will do the painting).  She is thrilled.

Meanwhile, DGD is still doing okay, which is great news.  Although she is stubborn about losing weight, I think this diet will result in some weight loss (no junk).

Oldest DGS and his wife are coming down for a visit this evening (not sure if I mentioned it, but they are driving down with the little dog.)  They are staying at a hotel nearby, and will spend time with DD and family, her family, and their friends.  And, tomorrow middle DGS is moving to his new condo.

Hope you enjoy/enjoyed the pool, Barbara.

As you may have seen on the other thread or FB, Jean has postponed her Alaska trip until June since she isn't feeling well.

DH's older DGD has decided to go to Cal Poly and major in biology.  I know she was thinking of going to an East Coast college, but things were very complicated due to the pandemic -- like visiting schools, etc.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

What a chilly day we had. First more rain then wind. The wind was so strong at one point I nearly knocked me off balance when I went from the house to the garage.

Your new project sounds lovely, Barbara. I hope you enjoyed the pool.

R has always put our ceiling fans up. I'm not sure he's able to do it now if one needs replaced. It's great your DD found someone to do it and now has someone lined up to replace the door. It sounds like a busy weekend for her family. I'm glad your DGD is doing ok.

Jamie graduates next month and I saw my sister posted on FB that he has a scholarship to a nearby college (hoping for more scholarships) and will major in music (no surprise) and minor in theater. If the dorms aren't open he'll live at home and commute.

R's muzzleloader friend too R that his son who has been working for the contractor with the very low bid is moving on to another job and that he couldn't see how that contractor could fulfill all his commitments. Everyone is advertising for help it seems. That made our choice of contractor easy (though expensive).

I hope Jean feels much better by June and enjoys her trip. That's one of the places I wanted to visit.

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Hope your weather was better today, Claudia.  DD said that DGS and his wife had a rough drive down from New Hampshire due to the wind. But, they are okay.  His wife will be going out with friends or family today, and DGS will be spending time with his Dad.  Youngest DGS is helping his brother with the move.  DD said that she and DGD may go shopping while the guys are out.

As you may have read on the other thread, Jean's niece could not get the time off in June, so now she doesn't know when it will happen.  I also mentioned Bev's diagnosis and decision to skip chemotherapy.

Hope you and R had a nice day.

Also hope you and V are doing well, Barbara.  Did the swimsuit arrive yet?  I saw one review that it was great.

DD ordered flowers for my Mother's Day gift, and they have already arrived.  Very pretty, but they may well not last until the day.  Oh well.....

It is comfortable in the house, but hot outdoors -- now they are saying it may get to 95 degrees.  Glad my AC is working.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: Reformed shopaholics week of April 25

I'm glad your eldest DGS and wife arrived safely in spite of the wind, Linda. That was a lovely photo of you and your DH. I'm sorry to hear about your friend Bev.  That's a tough diagnosis to hear.

I hope a date works out for Jean's niece so they can take the tour. A former classmate and his wife live in Alaska and posted photos on FB today. At their elevation t was around 40°.

This afternoon I mowed the back yard. It was hard work with the push mower. Due to all the rain the grass really grew in the past week and was quite thick. Tomorrow if the weather is good I'll mow out front. It took me much longer than expected so I didn't get everything done that I wanted to.

I bet your flowers are lovely.

I hope you and V have had a good day, Barbara.
