Or white thread adhering any tag to dark colored clothing!

Yes, scarf tags can be the pits. I try to fold and arrange scarves so the tag is hidden. If I can't do that, I snip them out very close to the hem with nail scissors. I'd rather not take them out, because sometimes the tags tell who the scarf's designer/maker is, what the fabric is, how to care for it, etc.

My suggestion is to wear a pair of magnifying glasses and use a lamp with a magnifying glass so that you can easily see the stitches that you want to use your seam ripper on. I recently broke my lamp so I will need to go to Michaels craft store or another crafting place to replace it (mine was a clamp on lamp and the clamp end broke).
You could also buy those magnifying glasses used to do close up embroidery work as those would also help you see clearly the threads you want to use your seam ripper to cut the threads to remove the label.

I don't want tags on anything!

I like the idea of the magnifying glass with lamp, I will go look at those. I don't have embroidery scissors, I will go look at those too. I have baby fingernail scissors but ended up putting a hole in the fabric anyway. And they don't even have a pointy end. So I either made the hole with the seam ripper or did it when I pulled the thread I don't know.
I just don't see the need for tags that are sewn in so tightly into the fabric, you know they should be able to do it in a way that it can easily be snipped out. I have seen scarves that are like this, I can't remember whose they were, Isaac Mizrahi's or Joan's, I don't remember but I have bought a few that had loose type labels that you can just snip off and there is no damage.
So why do most scarves you buy out in retail have these tags just sewn into them so tightly that it is even hard to get a seam ripper under the thread. I just don't see the need to do this. Yes fine put the tag in but give us some easy way to get it off when we want to wear it. Tops too, you would think they could figure this out. All the companies that make clothing and scarves and they can not do this simple thing for customers. Oy.
