I just watched the HBO documentary Very Ralph, free on Comcast this weekend. It goes into so much detail about his life and his work, very well done.

One of the people interviewed talks about how Ralph loves contradiction in fashion and styling outfits. As an example she mentions this ad with Naomi Campbell. A RL safari jacket over a RL gold gown. I had to look it up online, it was so pretty and eye catching.

Ralph Lauren used Naomi and Tyson Beckford in ads at the time.

That's the RL look.  Many have tried to imitate it but few have been successful.

@lavendar HBO is free on Comcast this weekend. If you have Comcast you can access it via the On Demand section. I live in the Northeast, I assume it's free throughout their entire service area but maybe not.

Re: Ralph Lauren Ad From 1997

Way back in the late 80's my DH and i met a seller at an outlet mall in a town about a half hour from where we live.  This man was able to buy a bunch of Ralph Lauren runway samples and I bought from him the most beautiful brown velvet evening dress worn on the runway.  It was entirely handmade and I wore it once to an event.  I cherish that dress to this day.  It was in an ad and I still have it somewhere.  Back then, I really loved Ralph Lauren and the late Perry Ellis clothing.  There was a wonderful store here named Montaldo's and I bought lots of things there back then, sadly they are no more.

Wowza! Naomi looks beautiful. Love Ralph Lauren and own many "career" dresses from his label. All classic, and all fit me without needing tailoring. They are a little bit more expensive (though not excessively) but its worth it to know I'll wear them for years.

What a gorgeous look and it would be so "In" right now!

Naomi was some beauty (and still is).

Stunning.

I figured out how to get free HBO on demand. I watched the Ralph Lauen documentary. What a great story about truly recognizing the American dream.

I also binge watched all day. Can you recommend any other HBO On Demand programs?
