Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

It's rained most of the day. It's just a light steady rain for now. R and his buddy went to the shoot only to find no one there. It must have been cancelled when the flood warning was posted.

Your bracelets sound lovely, Barbara. Fresh pineapple is so good.

Nothing exciting here either.

It looks like Hurricane Florence may be hitting Fran's part of the country. I hope your tropical storm/hurricane stays away from your area.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Good Evening!  Sounds like a nice day there, Barbara.  Hope you don't have problems with the storm.  The pictures you posted of the resort on FB are lovely.  Those bracelets must be beautiful.

Sorry R's shoot was canceled, Claudia.  Your weather doesn't sound nice.  Hope you don't have bad storms and Fran doesn't either.

I'm in CA, and so far all is well.  I have had TSA pre-check the past several times, but not today.  And, they added new machines at the airport.  They took me aside for "pat down" screening -- my shoulders of all things.  Perhaps they were so bony they thought they were metal.  LOL. By the time I got to the hotel it was a bit late for lunch, but there is a Starbucks as part of the complex, and I had one of their overpriced, but good sandwiches.  I did a bunch of walking around -- there is a beautiful park right across the street from the hotel (capital park?). I tried to find an ice cream store, but was unsuccessful.  I normally don't like ice cream, but ......   It is quite warm here in Sacramento, but not as hot as in AZ.  The hotel is very nice.

The group is meeting for a "wine social", dinner, and introductions in a little while.   I hadn't looked at the schedule for a while, so I was pretty happy to see what is in store.

Hope both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Too bad you didn't get TSA recheck this time, Linda. Isn't that off they patted down your shoulders?

I hope you're enjoying yourself.

We're home from the VA. Long day. We had a steady light rain most of the day. As we got about 15 miles there was a stop light for construction. However traffic wasn't moving either way. I have no idea why. After 15 minutes I turned around (luckily I was able to do so) drove back 3 miles and took an alternate route. It's a good thing we allow extra time and that we weren't further along. If we had been it would have taken longer to drive back to the alternate route.

When we got to the VA as saw the building was being added into and the entrance was fenced off. We had to go around to a side entrance.

When we got home there was a phone message to call the VA. They need to schedule him for more testing re: his back. If we'd only known as could have schedule while we were up there. One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

It only reached 62° here. It should warm back up later this week but thunderstorms are expected then. I see evacuations have been ordered for both coastal NC and SC. I'm not sure if that includes Fran. Probably as she's near Folly Beach.

Fingers crossed you have good weather, Barbara.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

We just back from a trip to find a few things for the other grands. There was a pizza place with nice outdoor seating so we shared a small one. There was an aciident on the only road on the island so it took us over an hour to get back lol Kauai has less people than the other islands and there is one 2 lane highway around 3/4 of the island. The rest of it, the NaPali coast can only be seen from the water or air. We have done that a few times.

Linda..I hope you enjoy your trip..the area you are in can be pretty hot..

but it will get cooler as you head north. Relax and enjoy.

Claudia..hope your day has gone ok..

we are in line for the fringe of the hurricane on weds/ Thursday.

Sleep well.🌴🌴

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Good Morning!  Sounds like you had quite a tiring day yesterday, Claudia.  I'm almost positive Fran would have been evacuated.  Seems like many areas will be having a horrible storm.  Praying everyone will be safe.

Sorry you had trouble getting back from your shopping and pizza, Barbara.

So far so good with my trip.   I think the change of scenery plus lots to keep me busy is really helping.   I also enjoy meeting new people, and there are always interesting people on these trips.  One newly retired lady came without her husband because he desperately needs knee replacement and could not walk, etc.  He had to have weight reduction surgery, and he lost 80 pounds from the surgery.  Now he is waiting for the knee surgery.

Among other things, we toured the State Capitol yesterday, and at one point the governor walked by on his way to a press conference or something.  The guide was telling us not to touch the bear statue in front of the governor's office, and he said that it was full of germs.  I guess all the kids who come by touch the statue which causes the germ problem.  The Californians in our group were pretty surprised, but I really didn't get a good look at him.  He was surrounded with lots of State highway patrol officers, and I was looking at them instead.  LOL

We went to a fabulous railroad museum, and today we will be taking the train.  I'm pretty excited.

Hope both of you have.a nice day and stay safe.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Aloha morning. We have a luau scheduled for this evening...it does not look like the rain is going to hit until tomorrow evening. I am planning on enjoying the sun today.

Claudia, Ithink we posted at the same time yesterday...you had a very exhausting day yesterday...hope you have time to decompress today.

Linda, your trip sounds lovely...it should help to reduce some of the stress you have been under. I always find travel is good for the soul. I hope you like Lake Tahoe as much as I do.

enjoy your day 🌴🌴😍

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Enjoy the luau, Barbara.

Friday we go back to the VA. R has an appointment with rehab. Tuesday it's back to Erie again as the VA is sending him to a dental specialist. In between I need to schedule grooming for the dogs. My dental appointment was moved up to tomorrow because the assistant will be out of town next week.

I'm the next few days people will be coming to measure the kitchen. I told R he has to help me pick up. Much of the clutter is his. He said he'd clean the half bath. I told him only after he gets other things done. I remember too well when his great aunt passed away. I had to work and R said he'd clean while the kids were at school and daycare. He had time off because she had helped raise him. His uncle , the bank president and his son the stockbroker came to town for the funeral and came to our house. R cleaned the kitchen. It was spotless. Never touched the living room or dining room which definitely looked very lived in. They never saw the kitchen.

The railroad museum must have been interesting. I hope you enjoyed the ride today, Linda.

I just donated 4 bags of kitchen items that I won't use. It's just the 2 of us. It's amazing what ends up in the back of cupboards.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Aloha..our time is winding down..we really have not done that much but it is so beautiful here that just sitting outside and gazing at the ocean is good.

The luau was wonderful. The performance told the story of how the islands were discovered through music, dance and story telling. It had all the components of the other luaus we have seen but I liked the presentation very much. It was a circulR stage and we were iat a front table.

V is really having mobility problems here..all of his constant sitting for the past couple of years has made things much worse. I know her realizes it but has a hard time accepting the fact that if he does not start moving, he will not be able to. His balance issues, neuropathy and bad back do not help.

Linda..hoe you are enjoying your trip.

Claudia. Good luck on getting the cluytter cleared..you know how I feel about it.

Enjoy your day...we are predicted to have a lot Fe rain later today.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of September 9

Saturday my brother and gf will be near Erie starting a tour of breweries and wineries. We'll meet for lunch along with my sister and nephew and cousin and his wife.

I checked about the kitchen measuring. Saturday had been a possibility. Luckily it no longer is. We settled on next Thursday (more time to pick up).

Dogs are scheduled for grooming next week and I picked up TT's medication refills this afternoon.

Barbara, sometimes it's good to just relax. I'm glad the luau was so enjoyable. Poor V. R I think has similar problems. There always seems to be mobility problems. His balance is pretty good though. I wonder if some of might help with balance. The local or office that R has been to offers supervision and use of exercise equipment along with a personally tailored program the cost is modest. I've mentioned it to R several times thinking it would be better than going to the YMCA on his own.

Linda, I'm looking forward to hearing more on your trip.
