REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good afternoon..it is chilly here..I just took Pepper out and I definitely was not dressed warmly enough. I will make sure that happens when she goes out again.

it took a long time to get home from church this morning...the annual local marathon uses part of the highway that is the only way to get there and traffic was bumper to bumper for over 4 miles. This only happens once a year.

i am going homghrough my closet when I get back from la a...i need to donate things I have not worn this season.

Hope you have a good day.🎈🎈🎈

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good Afternoon/Evening and thanks for getting us started, Barbara.  It has been chilly here as well, and they are predicting highs in the 40's on Tuesday and some other day days (lows below freezing) this week.  Plus we are supposed to be having rain tomorrow.  I'm ready for "regular" Arizona sunny and warm weather to return.

Sorry you had a long trip back from church.  When are you going to LA?  Sorry I forgot.

Hope all is going well with TIppy and your other furbabies, Claudia.  Also hope you and  R are doing okay.

The gym and grief group were fine.   DD called me this morning because DGD suddenly found she needed to register (and pay) for the next quarter at college today.  Of course, I could not contact the broker today (for the 529 money), and tomorrow is a holiday.  DGD used her money to pay for one class and DD paid for the other.  I transferred some money from my account, and I'll try to contact the broker on Tuesday or Wednesday.  I'd like to be able to get the money for all three of them in one call because it takes time.  DD said she will try to get the information on how much they need as soon as possible.

Oldest DGS got home from Philadelphia later than expected since he was hiring people to staff a store up there, and there were slim pickings in terms of potential employees.  I guess it is not a great time to hire people for entry level jobs -- just too many options for good employees.  One was even a registered sex offender (not hired, but....)

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Too bad there's only one way home from church, Barbara. At least it's only once a year.

I need to find time to go through clothes. Some that I'm not wearing is due to a certain puppy. Those I will keep.

Linda, you and Barbara are certainly having chilly weather. It's a good thing you were able to help out with the money suddenly needed for your DGD. It would happen in a 3 day weekend with banks closed Monday. I hope eldest gs can find some good employees.

We have a storm watch. So far it's just a coating of snow. I hope we don't get ice. R put the corner cupboard on the county wide garage sale site. It's sold and should be picked up Monday. It's twin is in the upstairs bathroom. Once we get that room remodeled we'll sell that. Right now I need the storage in the bathroom.

The back part of the driveway is on a slight slope. I had Tip chasing a ball up and down the slope.

We had enough dishes tonight that we decided to use the dishwasher for the first time. My how they've changed since 1986. There we were pouring over the instructions trying to figure what button to press. Good grief it even starts itself without having to push a lever to lock it.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good morning..I just put on my one fleece top I have here and turned the heat up one degree. As I have said our house is not well insulated for cool weather..it is good when it is hot, however.

i got my airport ride booked for tomorrow..I have to haul 2 suitcases..m left one here that she wants to bring home.. either is huge so that is good.

Linda..Glad you got the money figured out for dgd..your grandchildren are fortunate that you help them. Stay warm

Claudia..when it is just the 2 of us inrun the dishwasher every 2nd day. Sometimes I like to wash them by hand. Sounds as if you are having fun with Tip.

i am going to have to take my lightweight winter jacket with..I had just wanted to bring one of my bd cardigans but m said it is chilly in la.

enjoy your day.🥶🥶

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

As Barbara said, it sounds like you are having fun with Tip, Claudia.  I know puppies are a lot of work, but they sure are cute.  DD said they are expecting a bad storm on Wednesday (snow and then ice).  Hope your area doesn't get hit too badly.  Also hope R and you are doing okay.

It sure is chilly here, Barbara.  And, the wind is just plain nasty.  I had strong bones class this morning and thought about taking a walk after that, but no way.  Like you, I turned up the heat a little and put on another layer of clothing.  Not nice weather here so far this year.  Hope your trip to LA goes okay.  I'm sure you will need a jacket.

One of the ladies in "strong bones" was telling us that one of her cousins died unexpectedly on the operating table, and she just doesn't want to go to Chicago for the funeral.  She only has a light jacket and can't take the cold.  But, she ended up making many calls to her family in Greece yesterday evening/night, and was much worse for the wear.  Another lady said she had been babysitting her grands in Alberta, and had purchased warm clothes from the thrift store before she went.  Even so, she spent most of the time indoors except to take care of the dog.  Just too cold.

Nothing exciting going on here.  I will probably do some indoor "power walking", more cleaning and reading plus study some more Italian.  I'm past the "intermediate" section, and now they are having me record my voice and hear it played back.  (This is Babbel).  I sure didn't think that I sounded like that -- not good.  LOL

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

After the corner cupboard was picked up I went out on errands. I picked up several toys for Tippy plus extras as I know Griff will steal them. He seems mostly attracted to stuffed toys as a puppy he ignored them. Of course he had Bo and TT to play with. Tippy has been much better since I gave her the toys. I also froze a wet washcloth for her to chew. Griff stole it thinking it was a bone.

We had some snow and a bit of ice overnight. I quickly shoveled late morning. I hope Wednesday weather isn't too bad. Griff is supposed to be groomed and I hope to stop at Wegmans. Thursday is the VA eye appointment. I told R if the weather is bad we'll need to reschedule because we can't take a chance of being stranded with a puppy at home. R has stopped putting her in her crate at bedtime so there have been accidents. I'll make sure I do it tonight.

I'm glad you're taking a jacket, Barbara. It's certainly been colder in AZ and CA. I hope all goes well on this trip.

Good idea to do your walking inside, Linda. The wind makes it feel much colder. Last time I checked it appears the nastiest weather will be south of us.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good Afternoon!  It is chilly again today, and tonight should be cold (20's).  DD's area is still expecting snow and ice tomorrow which just happens to be their anniversary.  Needless to say, they are not planning to go out for dinner to celebrate.

Hope your weather will be okay tomorrow and Thursday, Claudia.  Also hope your flight to LA went well, Barbara.

I'm back from the senior lunch program that went pretty well.  For a change, we had more people who wanted the hot meal (beef stew) than the salad bar.  I just barely had enough stew to go around.  There were only half as many salad bar people than had signed up.  They also had birthday cake (for February birthdays), and I know the participants were happy campers.

I'll be leaving for the gym soon, and I don't have any other big plans for the afternoon.  I found out that one of the participants is missing his bottom teeth and has no money to pay for dentures.  I may inquire if there is some sort of charity around here that will provide the service or at least give a discount.  He doesn't eat much, but I never knew this was the reason.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

I hope you had a good flight, Barbara.

Given the forecast its a good idea for your DD and SIL to stay home, Linda. I think we will not get the bad weather. Last forecast I saw showed we were on the outer edge.

If the man without lower dentures is a veteran the local VA rep for the county may be able to see if there's help available. There may also be low cost dental clinics.

I was expecting Pippen's special cat food to be delivered today by Fed Ex. Still waiting.

Griffyn and Tip seem to be playing more. Griffyn still steals some of her toys even though he doesn't play with his own.

I need to do a search for one of my checkbooks. I put it in a safe place when using a small purse and now I'm not sure which safe place. Smh.

Sleep well.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good afternoon..I took Sydnie to the Getyy museum...about a 45 minute drive..we took the back streets so had a pretty but windy and twisty drive. She really enjoyed it..her first time at a big museum. I know a fair amount about art..took several classes in college so I was able to point out some things for her.

we are in now for the day...it is to rain all day tomorrow so do not plan to go out.

M is in the middle of a big snow storm. She flew the red eye home and they closed the airport shortly after she arrived.  Yikes

i did not post yesterday because i did not have the time before m left.

linda , in Phoenix there are free dental clinics..I would assume there are some in Tucson.i am glad that you connected with your friend. Looks as is dd could have some nasty weather.

Claudia hopefully the storm is not affecting you too much.

have a great evening.🥶🥶

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of February 17

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Glad you made it to LA okay, and you had a chance to take Syd to the Getty Museum, Barbara.  Also glad you can stay in to avoid the nasty weather, and M made it home before the airport closed.

DD's area was having very bad weather today, and DGD decided she wanted to come home from work early.  Everyone else was home already, but her boss insisted that she come in.  Just crazy.  The three boys went off in the biggest SUV they have to bring her home.  Hopefully, she will not have any trouble from her boss.  My SIL was busy working at home, and I guess the boys were off work.

I looked it up on-line and there may be some free dental clinics in Tucson, and there is a "sliding scale" one locally.  I do not know the man that well, but I believe he may be a vet.  I might try suggesting things to a male volunteer who told me about his lack of teeth.  Really none of my business, but.....

My friend and I had a nice lunch.  She likes the senior apartments where she lives very much, but I guess she is concerned that she might need to go to a nursing home at some point (she is 93 years old).  I suggested she check out assisted living places (like where DH was) since the only true "nursing home" in our area is not nice at all.  She said she also might consider going back to New Jersey, but she did not think that she would like it there.

Glad the dogs are playing together more, Claudia.  I think it is that way with many dogs and even children.  They are only interested in their siblings toys.  Hope you found your checkbook, and you do avoid the bad weather.

I called the broker about getting money for the second half of the spring semester, and I asked if I could transfer money from one grand to another since Army DGS may not need much more money for school.  You would have thought that I asked for the moon.  The man told me that I should talk to a CPA, etc.  I decided to wait until Fall to make sure he doesn't need the money before I try again.  Unfortunately, I don't have enough money with this broker to make it worthwhile for them to give me experienced specialists.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda
