Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Hope it went okay with the cats today, Claudia.  Also hope you got some rest last night.

Glad your weather is good, Barbara.  It is a shame about your brothers not going to Oregon, but it is understandable.  That is something about the water -- glad it wasn't the sewer.  Good that  M's co-workers have a sense of humor.

Very hot here, and no rain expected.  It is supposed to be even hotter this weekend with no rain.

As you may have read on the other thread, DGD's ENT doctor doesn't think her problems are due to ear issues, but some sort of neurological problem.  She isn't doing great, but I guess no worse.  DD said her arm is hurting, but she is dealing with it and the infection okay.  The pharmacist told her that she and my SIL should have shingles shots, and she went ahead and scheduled them for next week (first of two).  I certainly hope they don't have the reaction I did, but they will not be having the flu shot at the same time like I did (that may have caused my problem).  She said she really wants to avoid shingles after one of her grandmothers suffered with them (my MIL).

Very quiet again here.  I continue to experiment with meals, which is fun.  I think I have lost a little weight due to trying to cut back on fat, cholesterol, and sugar.  Not too much, but I hope that I can stay within the "range" I have set for myself.

Hope both of you, your husbands and furbabies have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

I managed to sleep better last night and loaded up the 2 cats as planned. Rusty has lost 4 pounds in the last year and had a thyroid test done. He was 15 pounds and is now 11. I get the results tomorrow when we bring Tippy in for her bordatella shot. He's 13. Toby who is 14 lost 2 pounds and is down to 9.

R had me go to Wal-Mart to get a cleaning item he needed for his equipment. What a madhouse. Most people did have masks but I had forgotten it was Wednesday the day of the week when Social Security payments arrive.  I usually avoid shopping on Wednesdays.

R's buddy is going to help him vent his wood stove through the garage roof instead of out a window this weekend. Smh. What could possibly go wrong?

I just finished mowing in back. R tried but his hip didn't cooperate. Today was cooler which was nice. It looked !ike rain a couple times but we didn't get any.

Barbara, I'm glad the water leak was an easy fix.  I didn't know your brothers and V had thought of flying to Oregon.

Linda, I hope your DGD follows up with a neurologist. It's good you have set a weight range and are enjoying experimenting with meals.

I can just imagine that tornado siren going off.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

Good afternoon..this s a do nothing day...I have cleaned a little but my knee is bothering me. I could not go the audiologist because I could not maneuver down the slope to the car.lol. I feel very confined .

Claudia..we were going to take 3 days to drive tonOregon, but my brothers need to fly. I am still waiting to hear from my youngest brother.i thinker will be happy when he gets his hip done. I am thinking my knee may have to be sooner rather than later. Hope your kitties are ok.

Syd made dance line. The ring doorbell went off about 10 and there was a congratulary sign for Syd on the door. She is reluctant, but I think she will like it.

Linda..hope your day is going well. We have less than a month left here before we head back.

definitely nothing exciting here.

havea good day.💝💝

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

Are you concerned about the weight loss of your cats, Claudia?  I wonder if you give them special foods or whatever.  Hope they are doing okay.  Sorry you had a mess at Wal Mart.  I went there today, and it was pretty crowded.  Everyone had masks, but they certainly were not making sure to stay six feet apart, etc.   I may go back to ordering on-line to avoid the crowds.

Sorry about R's hip   DGD goes to the neurologist tomorrow.  DD had another laser treatment and massage -- still has shoulder pain.  She said the UTI is getting better.

As you may read on the other thread, my nephew Steve is in the hospital with pneumonia.  He is the one who is undergoing chemo.  Fortunately, he does not have the virus.

Sorry your knee is such a problem, Barbara.  Were you going to the audiologist with V or for yourself?  I sure hope it cools down a bit before you return.  Of course, you will probably be spending a lot of time at home in the AC, but.....  September is usually not a cool month, but perhaps slightly cooler than August.  We are surely missing the rain.

What did V say about driving to Oregon?  I know it is beautiful there, but....

What is dance line?  I'm not surprised Syd made it, and I hope she enjoys it.

Hope both of you, your husbands and furbabies have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

I'm glad your DD's uti is improving, Linda. I still have occasional shoulder pain but figure it's too be expected. I know R feels bad I do all the mowing but I think it helps my arm and shoulder movement. At least your nephew doesn't have the virus. I hope he recovers soon from pneumonia and can resume chemo.

Tippy now has her Bordatella (kennel cough) shot. I also have a 3 month supply of the dogs flea medicine. Rusty cat will be getting some thyroid medicine. A pharmacy will compound it so I can put it in some canned food. Typically cats as they age  tend to lose some weight but Rusty's was more pronounced. Over the past several years Tigger's weight has dwindled but consider she'll be 18 in September. Pippen has his special food and then I use Purina One sensitive systems as the other dry food plus a bit of moist food in the evening.

I spoke to the vet about the young feral and she said if I can get him into a carrier to call and tell the receptionist it's a feral and I can bring him right in and they'll neuter and vaccinate that day. So that's good news. All I have to do is get him in the carrier. I left one of the cat carriers outside on the porch thinking that way he'd get used to it but who did I find sleeping in it but Jinx from next door!  I think this young feral is too smart for a live trap. Someone live trapped most of the ferals in the area and dumped them off in the countryside or so I was told after the fact. There is no local trap, neuter, vaccinate, release locally. When he shows up for food I can pet him and even slightly lift him as he winds around my feet.

I am sorry you are not able to get to the car, Barbara. That must be so frustrating. I hope Sydnie enjoys dance line more than she expects to.

I trimmed between the driveway edge and the fence this afternoon. The weed trimmer is too heavy for me. We have a lighter weight trimmer but it just doesn't cut well so I've used grass shears.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

good afternoon..it rained a bit this morning..m has a lot of pretty plantings in the yard but she is not tuned into watering or maintenance.i am trying to teach her how to..SYD May be a better choice..lol.

Linda..the audiologist was for v...my hearing is fine. He decided to purchase the hearing aids..He did not get the most expensive ones. It makes my life much easier.  The dance line or dance team is a group that performs at football and basketball games. The better ones also compete.  She was asked to be part of that group also.. She was pretty reluctant, but she enjoyed it once she got intio it.

Claudia..hope you can capture the feral cat. You take such good care of animals.

Not anything exciting here.

Have a good day,😬😬

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

[ Edited ]

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Another hot day here.  You certainly do a lot of yard work, Claudia.  I tried to keep up my yard in Maryland, but I was not that good at trimming, etc.  I didn't mind mowing when I was in town except that it always seemed to rain right before I wanted to mow.  My stone yard out here doesn't require a lot of work other than weeding.   Good luck with that feral cat.  Thanks for the explanation about cats and weight.  I guess it makes sense that they would lose weight.

Glad R decided to get the hearing aids, Barbara.  I'm sure the ones he picked will be fine.  And, it will make your life easier.  Probably a good idea to teach Syd about yard maintenance if M is overwhelmed.  I guess the dance line serves somewhat the same purpose as the Poms did back in the day, correct?  Of course, the dance lines are probably more interesting to watch.  DD was a cheerleader for a while, but back in those days there were not too many moves, and a lot of cheering.  Now it is more athletic "sport".

Happy to report that they were able to get Steve's fever down, and he will be sent home this evening rather than tomorrow.  Unfortunately, the cause of DGD's problems are still a mystery.  She needs to go to three specialists and have more testing done at the hospital (outpatient).  So far, they have only been able to make appointments with the neurologist and the neurological ophthalmologist. They are hoping she can have the tests done next week.  Not sure about the third specialist.

I have been busy with my hospice work plus Anglo Saxon history class, but I hope to get some stuff done around the house.

Hope both of you, your husbands and furbabies sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

ETA -- Just learned that my nephew David died today.  His Dad was there and so was his sister who flew in from Texas this morning.  So tragic.  He would have turned 54 later this month.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

Linda, I'm very sorry to read about your nephew. It sounds like it was unexpected since earlier they were planning to send him home.

How frustrating for your DGD. I hope she gets some answers soon.

I worked some more in the yard. I started mowing out front but got side tracked pulling some weeds and trimming the forsythia. Jinx was busy supervising me. He's at our house as much as he is next door. It took longer weeding than I expected. R came looking for me but didn't realize I was on the far side of the house.

The compounding pharmacy called about Rusty's medicine. They are near Wegmans so I'll pick it up Tuesday after Griff is dropped off for grooming. Monday is out since R has the imex test with exercise at the VA. Wednesday Tippy will be groomed.

I think I will try to get the young feral Thursday. I don't think he would take kindly to riding up with one of the dogs if I caught him Tuesday or Wednesday. The groomer is a few blocks from the vet.

Barbara, I'm glad V decided to get the hearing aids. I hope it makes things easier. It's a good idea to teach Sydnie about yard maintenance.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

You have been busy again, Claudia.  David was my other nephew who was under hospice care.  He was the one who had been an alcoholic who had a stroke and was under hospice care at his brother's house in New Jersey.  Nevertheless, his death came much earlier than expected since his brother told me that hospice thought he would live three to six months.

Fortunately, my other nephew Steve (who had testicular cancer) did get better and was supposed to be re;eased from the hospital this evening.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 2

Glad to hear Steve is doing better, Linda. All the yard work muddled my brain. Not used to the yard work but someone has to do it.
