Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Good Afternoon!  Hope R gets help with his pain, etc.  Also hope things are going okay with your furbabies, Claudia.

Another cute Syd picture on FB, Barbara.  How is is going in LA?  Are you seeing the smoke?

Very long story short, I gave up on the car dealer -- never called me back despite my leaving four voice mails.  Then I read on the internet that they have a very poor service department.  I googled it, and found a local independent garage, and they told me to bring the car in this morning.  They were wonderful, and I plan to use them as much as possible in the future.  The place I had taken the car for oil changes, etc., had messed up with the oil pan cap/gasket (not sure exactly), and they tightened it and told me to have it fixed during my next oil change.  They found a belt that goes to the AC that had cracked, so I had that belt and another one in front of it replaced.  They were fast and very reasonable.  They also took me out to the car to see things.  I know nothing about cars, but I was impressed that they didn't treat me like I was a nitwit or something.   Anyway, I am a happy camper regarding the car.

The handyman picket up the screen door only to find out that it did not include any of the accessories like the handle or frame, and there weren't even drilled holes or a pattern that showed how to drill the holes.  He took the door back up to Home Depot and now is having them make up a "door kit" that he can install.  Very nice man, and I'm glad that the job will probably get done regardless of this complication.

I slept very poorly again last night -- this time worrying about the financial stuff I need to work out on DH's estate.  I looked some stuff up on the internet -- still very complicated, as well as read a packet of information that they sent to me.  I think I might just take an outline/list of questions I have when I see the financial guy tomorrow.  I want to be able to explain things to his kids so that they know about their choices.  Yikes!

Not sure if I will accomplish much today, but hopefully I'll at least do some cleaning.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. Did you order any Linea today, Claudia?

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Sydnie and I had a not most excellent adventure today. I have forgotten that Hollywood etc. are very urban areas with smaller store like target thN we are used to. So I found a super target in north Hollywood and decided to go there for a few things we were missing.they had a underground parking garage , not huge but not small and I forgot to write down where we parked. All the spaces had numbers and letters.

So so syd And I did our shopping, checked out and we could not locate the car. We walked around for an hour...I was pressing the car alarm..NOTHING. SYD CALEED M WHO FREAKED OUT..I had already figured out a plan of action...called the police to see if it had been towed, call the car rental to see if they could ping it..finally located a security guard who helped us. If I had listened to syd, we would have it a lot sooner.

🤪🤪is all I will, say. Poor kid had nothing to eat..until we got back.  Ut she was very good.

That is enough drama for today....

Linda..hope the finance guy can help you...wonder if you need an estate lawyer. Glad you found someone good to fix the car..it did sound like an oil leak...my dad and v taught me what to look for..now I am a mechanical idiot but I know some stuff. Hope you can get your brain to settle down to sleep.

Claudia hope r gets his cast off and some help, for his back. M said pepper is very attached to v.

sleep well 😘

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

After 16 weeks R is finally without a cast! He does have a brace to wear as needed and goes back in 3 months.  Driving to the specialist (60+ miles) there were downpours. At times I could hardly see the road but we got there and back again.

Recycling was picked up. I put a lot out as the collection earlier this month (1st and 3rd full weeks) was when we were in Colorado.

Tomorrow hopefully the remotes will be working. First thing in the morning I need to vacuum and dust. Too tired tonight.

Linda, that's great the car problem was an easy fix and you found a reliable place to take the car. I hope all goes well tomorrow and try not to worry too much.

I can just picture you hunting for the rental car, Barbara. That happened to me before but not with a rental car.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Yikes, Barbara.  Glad you finally found the car.

I have an "elder attorney" who handles estates.  My appointment with her is next week.  She re-did my will, etc., and said she would help with DH's when the time came.  It was too late to change anything on his will or trust by the time I figured out that the other "attorney" was not what he said he was.  I have a written list of questions for the financial guy, and I will probably do the same for the lawyer.  Also wrote down my objectives, which is important.  Came up with this idea in the middle of the night.

The screen door project ended up being a much bigger deal than expected.  While the door is up, it is not finished.  Also, I will have him fill up some holes from the old door and do some painting.  Not sure when that will happen, but hopefully this weekend or early next week.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

I just saw your post from yesterday, Claudia.  Glad R is without a cast at last.

I'm a bit worried that I'll be in a downpour on my way up to meet the financial guy.  Fingers crossed that doesn't happen, but we just had a huge crash of thunder and it is raining very hard.  Possibly, this storm won't last long .  It is bad when you miss a re-cycling or trash day -- end up with a whole lot of stuff the next time.  Are the remotes repaired?

Last night's sleep was interrupted by worry about the screen door.  The truth is, I just hate it -- flimsy, cheap hardware, and didn't fit the door well.  Although the handyman was planning to work on it some more, I realized I would never be happy with such a flimsy door.  So, I got up at 4:00 a.m. and sent him an e-mail.  He did understand, and he has already e-mailed me back saying he will do whatever he can to fix things.  I do want a screen door, but I would rather do without than have one I hate.

DH's DD called yesterday evening, and I am a bit more comfortable about my meeting with the financial guy.

Hope you and Syd are having a better day today, Barbara, and both of you have a nice evening!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Linda, you're absolutely right in not accepting a door you hate. You will eventually find the right one. We had Lowe's install the door to the garage. The same person previously installed a kitchen storm door back when R's hip was replaced.

Speaking of which he's having pain. The pt person felt R's leg wasn't extending properly. I wonder if that flight down the stairs didn't do some damage. R doesn't think they x-rayed it at the time. He tried mowing and both back and hip bothered him. He's still determined to go to the shoot though.

Fortunately the tv remote was an easy fix.

I hope this afternoon's meeting goes well and you have answers to your questions.

Barbara, I hope today is a better day with no lost cars.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

It is still afternoon here...No drama today...we went to Trader Joe’s and Barnes and noble  and back with no issues. I am very achy out here...syd is pretty active and I try to keep her busy...not easy with my annoying ra. I have prednisone to take and I may start next week. Plus I am adjusting to a temperpedic bed which is not good for people with any arthritis.

Linda..hope you did not hit rain today..I find it easier to drive in snow in Mn than rain in Phoenix. It is too bad that awful attorney made such a mess of things. We have goodcscreen doors in both of our houses. We replaced the ones in Az within a year of living there.

Claudia..too bad r is still having pain. Maybe when he has his joint replacement, it will improve.there appears to be a small dog here who is pretty confined to a tether during the day. Not good.

we picked up some really good produce today..yum

Sleep well.🌼🌼

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Good afternoon..

we decided to hang out today...I do not want to run around just to do something. We did spend an hour at outdoor tables at Starbucks...ended up talking to an actor...I recognized him from The wLking Dead..he plays a monitor character. He was interesting to talk to...

M was not happy yesterday..She claims her job may not be telecommute anymore...if syd is going to sit around, she may as well come home..and on and on. I think she needed to vent because when she gets in her moods, everything is negative. Yikes

i am watching the hurricane near Hawaii...looks as if it may be turning away.

hope you are both having a good day.😘😘

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

It's good to take a day to just hang out, Barbara. Too bad M is seeing things in a negative light right now. It's good Sydnie has you there to balance things out. Middle sister would have moods like that. Dad called it her woe is me mood.

R ended up at the muzzleloader range to test some firearms after finding a favorite location nearby now had signs posted for no shooting or dumping. Earlier he thought to walk around the block but only made it to the end of the street before his back gave him trouble.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICs week of August 19

Sorry M isn't happy, Barbara.  Glad you had an interesting talk with the actor.

my internet is down, and the repair person is not coming until late tomorrow afternoon.  I may need a new router.  So, I am using my tablet at the library, and I may or may not be able to post tomorrow.  Hope you can read about my adventures yesterday on the other thread.

it has been a good day with the exception of the internet.  Made it to the gym and grocery store.

My granddaughter is happy that she got the job at the cheese store, and youngest DGS passed his network certification test this morning.  That is great news.  Meanwhile, DD is planning to change her hair color -- currently black to something much lighter.  I am very happy about the change.  Her hair turned white very young, but I always thought she went too dark.

Sorry R is in pain, Claudia, and I hope he can do his planned activity this weekend.

Hope both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda
